00:00Let's go tonight on House Hunters a couple desperate to escape the rat race
00:08and each other he's my husband and I see him 24 7 two strong personalities one big decision
00:20you're gonna make me do the work yeah and then you're gonna love it after
00:24may the best house hunter win there's something to consider no I'm not considering
00:38ah Sydney's eastern suburbs home to great beaches great coffee and our house hunters
00:47Lomu and Aifa the light of my life 20 years ago we met at high school I was the naughty one sitting
00:54at the back of the class he walks in with these knee-high socks looking absolutely dapper and I
01:00picked on him don't worry nowadays Lomu gives as good as he gets this dog's so spoiled it's
01:07unbelievable just like someone I know oh funny right funny despite the banter they're crazy for
01:19each other which is good because they spend a lot of time together let's go we've got a boxing gym
01:29it's our first business hey Adam some days start at 4 30 in the morning finish at about 8 p.m off the
01:37jab off the jab it's a non-stop run it can be very taxing hard hard work hard work hard work after a
01:46long day working together they head home to relax but that's where the real sparring starts so
01:53currently we're living in a one-bedroom apartment my little fur babies it's nice but you're crammed in
02:00each other's space all the time when we do come home sometimes I might have to tell her you know can
02:06you read the room right now because I've talked all day so I need to recharge batteries I absolutely
02:10love him to death but let's be real he's my husband and I see him 24 7 yeah baby so in the
02:18interest of sanity they're calling time out and want to buy a retreat out west in country New South
02:25Wales we're looking for a weekender where we can have family and friends but be completely shut off
02:30from everything else I'm looking for a place where I can get away from AFA I'd love to have some like
02:37water gotta be a dam or river or something a nice panoramic view I love a bit of mountain not too much
02:45maintenance wanted to be somewhere I could just relax I would love a romantic fireplace I definitely
02:52want some fruit trees and a large kitchen he loves to eat and so do I can't see I'm talking man so our
03:02budget 1.2 to 1.5 would be the sweet spot if it was up to me you know I would spend as much as we
03:09need to just to get away from each other and get some get some peace and quiet you can't put a price
03:17on sanity but in this case one and a half million will have to do we're heading west to the Canimbla
03:25Valley one hour from the historic city of Bathurst and swapping city hipsters for country hoppers oh my god
03:34there's a key girl on the road all right let's go let's get it oh my gosh how cute is it
03:39Lomu and AFA have very different wish lists but their agent Christy has found a gem that could suit
03:48them both today I'll be showing AFA and Lomo a property in the Canimbla Valley has river frontage
03:54and it's on 20 acres we've established orchard okay so I think this is the entrance yeah oh this is
04:05massive house number one the riverside escape on the market at the top of their budget for 1.495 million
04:16oh my gosh that just means a lot of work gee well yeah but it's got like vineyards oh look there's
04:30fruit trees okay I'm like overwhelmed right now and she hasn't even gone out of the car yet oh wow
04:40hi guys how are you today welcome to this property it is on 21 acres four bedrooms two bathrooms and it
04:52has river frontage oh wow it's even better for me oh wow wow this is a massive space
05:04fireplace I love this but look at its view y'all I know with this much space they could go days
05:18without having to talk to each other this is the master bedroom oh wow I don't know about the colors
05:25but yeah yeah the colors are a bit and we started so well oh wow I like this I don't like it look at
05:42it it's like from 1990 and the spa's like yuck I actually like the spa gives it that like country feel
05:51oh yeah no no we need to do like a reno this is I'm not doing renos because I know I'm gonna have
06:01to do all the work judging by that face you do not have a choice and the kitchen's not much better
06:10wow definitely my spot hey I love that it's really spacious but a bit too much timber for me
06:18kitchen's really dated it looks like something out of a 90s horror show I love it it gives it the
06:24country feel the wood is awesome it's too much too much for me now afer does like wood just outside
06:34in the ground preferably with fruit attached so you can see the established fruit orchard oh this is
06:42beautiful peaches pears and there's something out here that should keep Lomu very happy yeah there's
06:52trout in the river oh yeah there's actually even better because I love fishing and this view is
06:58amazing yeah but it is still a lot of land I did want a weekend where I could just get away and just
07:06relax but the land's gonna be a lot of work it's 20 acres like if you think about it like I've got
07:11to go buy a tractor for the land I'm gonna have to work the whole time so I'm not really gonna have
07:15a break and I came here to have a weekend away I don't know if I want to die on the tractor yeah I
07:22get it like there's a lot of land here but you got a 200 meter water frontage at the river there's a
07:28lot of things to consider here because there's a lot of pros and cons but balancing both their dreams
07:35is going to be tricky I'm up for a project DIY I don't want to do any work let's go gym owners Lomu
07:50and Afa are on the hunt for a weekend retreat armed with one and a half million they're desperate to
07:57escape city chaos and each other the house we're seeing now is on six acres so I'm curious to know
08:07like whether or not it'll have fruit trees Afa dreams of an orchard a farmhouse kitchen and an open
08:15fire but Lomu just wants to relax so what was it six acres yeah so I think it's going to be a lot
08:23more manageable for us yeah because I really don't want to do any work his dream is to look at a view
08:29or chill by the water the land on the last place was too big for Lomu but this next property is much
08:37smaller so could it be the one oh it's one story wow I love this house number two the hobby farm list
08:51price 1.35 million and look it's got like really nice established trees yeah it looks like apples
09:00cherries oh my gosh that's so cool haha look Lomu there's a pond where there oh mad this is really
09:08nice hi how are you going today welcome to this property in the Kanimblas it's a three bedroom
09:15one bathroom and it's on a little over six acres let's go check it out yeah let's do it have a look
09:24at this one oh wow this is so nice I love the color scheme like this nicely muted low ceilings but
09:36like cozy it's got a fireplace too I love that yeah I love it oh wow look at this this is a country
09:47kitchen what's that is that like a barbecue or something oh this is nice this is like a proper
09:51gas cooker this is big I like it I love it looks like the kitchen's a winner but is there enough
10:00space for visiting family this is very cozy yeah it is oh nice it's a little bit small but it's cozy
10:12like what do you mean it's a little bit tiny as it's good for a guest bedroom at least I like it shove
10:19the guests in a shoebox and they won't outstay their welcome but Lomu and Afa need their creature
10:26comforts so this must be the master bedroom because it's got the double windows views great yeah but
10:36the space it is a bit tiny is going to be a bit of mission trying to get around in here
10:41and if they thought that was small
10:44okay so this is interesting it's very um very retro there's a sink and there's a bathtub next
10:58door is shower shower so we're gonna have to like completely gut it out bathrooms are a bit of a pickle
11:05but I am not afraid of a DIY job yeah but is it gonna be worth our time at least the land's low
11:15maintenance for Lomu with space to kick back and take in the view yeah right look at this great outdoor
11:23area here for all my guests barbecue here good view nice and at 1.35 million it's under budget
11:32what's not to love it ticks so many things off my wish list like we've got the fireplace I've got
11:39established fruit trees and the kitchen is the best feature of the house yeah there's a dam which I'm
11:45happy with manageable land the only thing is with the bathrooms I'm I'm up for a project DIY
11:53yeah see me I don't want to do any work remember I came here for a weekend away not to do work
11:58it's something to consider but there's no I'm not considering it but will Lomu's high expectations
12:09mate that is steep y'all finally be met this is fantastic definitely a long way from the city
12:22Lomu and Afa are back on the road to view their final country retreat
12:26mate these are some pretty steep hills eh they're climbing high above the valley into mountain goat
12:33country mate that is steep y'all but this next house is worth it so this property is a very unique
12:44property it's on top of a hill that has the most incredible 360 degree views that's a big tick on
12:51Lomu's list I hope he's packed his lederhosen because this is straight out of the sound of music
12:59oh wow wow look at this this is beautiful that looks like a Swiss chalet funny you should say
13:11that house number three the Swiss chalet list price 1.35 million the view is fantastic I'm blown away

13:44oh wow look at that view Lomu wow this view's mad yeah look and it's got a fireplace oh wow this is
13:58amazing it's just one of those places you can just sit back and just take it all in really this is like
14:04a European dream I would never have thought that would have something this beautiful in our budget
14:09that's right it's definitely a hidden gem the views are a feast for Lomu's eyes but will Afa's
14:16kitchen serve up the goods look it's not as big as I thought yeah but I could see myself cooking here
14:22like with these views these views are beautiful so it does have a really large walk-in pantry
14:28wow yeah it's good definitely see myself in there if I'm ever lost you know where I'm at
14:38if it's solitude you're after Lomu there's another hidey hole that's great after pantry snacking
14:46hmm what's in there it's a sauna it's on away oh my gosh get out that's like a proper Swiss chalet
14:55welcome to Europe mate a sauna is just a big plus I see myself here relaxing having the time of my life
15:04you'll be like naked in the corner where's Lomu in the sauna
15:08naked shut up
15:13so what's that oh that would be the main bedroom then oh yeah this is the master bedroom
15:17wow what a view I can sit on that balcony but take it in a moment
15:22there's a lot of timber happening
15:24that orange timber look I don't know man like that's your colorblind we'd have to paint it brown
15:33no it's like orange we've got to paint something over at the top of it it's a bit it's a bit much
15:39but we'll all be forgiven when Afa steps outside because these hills are alive with potential
15:49anyone for a yodel oh my goodness this is amazing
15:54you could live here just purely on the view
15:58is this all for the gardens though there's no fruit trees or anything it's all very native and
16:07just natural it's low maintenance low maintenance music to Lomu's ears but it does come at a cost
16:16is there like a river any water around here on this particular property there is no river access but
16:22the river is only a short drive away there's a water tank for you yeah that's all right I'll just
16:27go attach myself to the water tank this place doesn't have everything they want but it's under
16:36budget at 1.35 million so there's still plenty of money to fix up the fault because views like this
16:43are worth making sacrifices for I really love it I honestly I love the view I don't think we could ever
16:52beat a view like this like we can establish some new trees or something and there is a sauna which
16:57I can substitute for my water but it will take a bit of getting used to this one's right up there
17:03yeah it's gonna be hard to top this but there's a few things that we need to take out of our wish
17:07lists to consider it yeah it's gloves off honestly I could see myself living there as Lomu and Afa go
17:18toe-to-toe for their perfect country retreat who's gonna do the wet Lomu and Afa are about to pick a
17:31country escape Afa's dream is a big kitchen fruit trees and a fireplace but Lomu wants low maintenance
17:41a place to relax with water and views so far there's only one thing they can agree on
17:49you know who wears the pants
17:53no I don't wear the pants but like I do make smart suggestions
17:59I really hope you've got your popcorn this could get interesting
18:06so sorry a lot of things to consider Riverside Escape that was a dream come true when we walk
18:16through those fruit trees and the vineyards honestly I could see myself living there and
18:20had that gorgeous fireplace with that really nice character as well I actually like the bathroom I
18:25like the old cottage feel I'm not cleaning that spa mate there is no chance like we need to fix that
18:32bathroom fix that kitchen we're at the max budget though so we'd have to do that ourselves and I'm
18:38definitely not doing that see my concern is there's a lot of land and you know what that means
18:43who's gonna do the work I don't want to be cutting grass on the weekend the only saving grace which
18:49I'm gonna give a positive is the river the waterfront see if you get the water you're totally fine with
18:55mowing some lawns what about the hobby farm I really like all those different types of fruit trees that
19:04fireplace was gorgeous and it had the water feature for you so it's very manageable six acres I don't
19:10have to do much work the place is definitely the weekend vibes as a weekender it works perfectly for
19:16us but it's a little bit cozy if we have more than a few friends over where do we put them all yeah
19:23the bathroom is tight we're gonna have to do the works on that mate you're gonna make me do the work
19:29yeah and then you're gonna love it after what do you think about the Swiss chalet I liked it because
19:36it was on elevator land you have the whole view of the hills the wrong hill was gorgeous that fireplace
19:42was beautiful as well but those bedrooms timber everywhere we'd have to paint it all paint it all
19:48what do you mean yeah like there was timber everywhere you'd love that I love timber the
19:53other thing for me is that there was absolutely nothing on the land there were no trees absolutely
19:57nothing there and there's no water so no water features but you've got a sauna though the sauna was
20:02a bonus so I could deal with that but for that view honestly could even out the playing field it really
20:10could choosing their Goldilocks house is going to be tough will it be the sprawling riverside escape
20:19with the enormous orchard for afer will it be the compact hobby farm with low-maintenance land for
20:26Lomu or will the Swiss chalet with its knockout views be just right for both of them
20:32yeah baby we bought a house so we ended up buying the riverside escape two beautiful living spaces
20:43fireplace you can't say no to these fruit trees what more can you ask for yeah honestly I know I was
20:51the guy that was so nego about the land yeah I'm actually the first thing I've done is gone out and
20:56worked the land you'll never see me in the house so he loved it though I wake up and I lose him
21:04because he's out in the grounds on a tractor who would have known it's the best place to come to
21:11it's absolutely gorgeous yeah and a river the rivers a plus but for me I'm gonna admit I was wrong and I'm
21:19working the land and I'm you're right wife knows best
