I recently purchased the Telefunken 10.1IN 3G TEL-1013GIQA tablet computer. Am I happy with it? Sort of maybe. But I don't like the very rough resolution. Also, it comes with a Vodacom simcard that needs to be RICA'd first, which means regular SMS messages alerting me that I've won all sorts of lotteries and inherited tons of money. Perhaps I don't like this tablet all that much after all. Still, I'm using it so I guess it serves its purpose.

00:00so I recently got a new tablet because I wanted to watch videos as I'm running on
00:10the treadmill in the gym so I went into a store and saw some in a display case
00:14and I saw two there that were reasonably priced and were the same size 10.1 inch
00:20and I asked the shop assistant so which one of these two would be best and she
00:25recommended the Telefunken one although I'm not sure that was the best choice
00:30and I'll tell you why first let's have a look at what it says on the box here we
00:35have Telefunken 10.1 inch tablet with 3G built-in tell and there's a model
00:41number picture of it quad core built-in 3G Android 11 Telefunken on the back
00:48there's more info let's check it out features display all right CPU there is
00:55the CPU information if you understand that resolution 1024 by 600 always
01:02Android 11 go edition memory RAM and external storage micro SD card up to 32
01:10gigabytes dual camera front 0.3 megapixel and back 2.0 megapixel Wi-Fi
01:18Bluetooth support dual sim 3G GPS USB micro USB headphone jack battery 4000 mega what is
01:31that I don't know what that is mega ampere amp ampere hours I'm guessing and FM and
01:40there's just who's behind bringing it to me who's manufacturing it China so let's have a
01:46look at the actual tablet I already used it so it's not in the original packaging I
01:52suppose this was in some kind of protective plastic something soft there's
01:57what the tablet looks like pretty standard tablet we'll have a look at it
02:02just now let's just check what else is in the box in the bottom you have your
02:06charger and the cable user manual and this is important using 3G now let's just
02:14have a look at the tablet close-up you have here on the side your volume up and
02:19down and the on button of course this I suppose is the speaker camera I smeared
02:25something over the camera or did I miss the camera oh seems the cameras there I
02:30just don't like the cameras on these things unless I'm gonna use the camera a
02:35lot but as I said I wanted to watch videos on this so I'm not using the camera
02:40too much USB cable goes in there and headphones so do I like this thing well
02:48not really one thing one problem I have although it's not the main problem is
02:53switching it on let's see how long that takes I'm pressing it oh no it seems you
02:59have to hold it in for a bit pressing it now and it started buzzing yeah you see
03:05there it's a little bit faint but it says they're telefunken presented now
03:11powered by Android go edition and we're waiting and we're waiting and we're
03:17waiting now maybe you're used to tablets taking this long to boot up I don't like
03:24it whether it's standard or not and we're still waiting and waiting and waiting and
03:31waiting and waiting and waiting still waiting yeah you see this booting time
03:44really takes me a bit ah there we finally are of course we're gonna swipe up and now
03:57we have to put in the thingy the pattern and then yeah there we are it's finally
04:07boot up I would say
04:15and it yeah all right so what don't I like about it well I think it's the
04:22resolution that's too low it's like the but I've noticed that on a lot of
04:27telefunken products I had one of those small little DVD players that you flipped
04:33open and it had the same problem or let's say the same issue it's like their
04:38resolution isn't sharp and clear let me compare it for example to this Android
04:43phone yeah I'll show you what I mean with the resolution not being sharp I'll
04:47hold this close up you see look at this for example you see that 1108 it's not
04:55sharp and clear it looks a bit stripey or blocky or something yeah I'm holding it
05:00close by now it's like the resolution is very rough you see there very rough
05:06resolution you see there what I mean I don't know if it shows on camera but let's
05:13look at the text you see the text is kind of rough around the edges I mean let's
05:18compare that now with this Android phone screen for example I'll hold it at the
05:24same distance almost right up against the camera okay if I hold it really close
05:28you can also see the stripes and blocks but it's not nearly as rough much
05:34smoother text and smoother images so yeah that's a shame that this tablet is
05:39like that although in my case I didn't go and give it back because I don't know if
05:45they will take it back but it still works for my purposes because I like put it
05:51about a meter away from me as I'm running on the treadmill and I can watch
05:54videos all the time so yeah as long as it's a proper distance away from you you
05:59don't really see that blockiness and stripeyness but yeah if you hold it like
06:05this like you will like you would usually use a tablet that might bother you if you
06:10have an eye for detail and you want things to be sharp and clear yeah another
06:16thing that peeves me is at the gym I use the Bluetooth to play the sound of the
06:22videos over the treadmill speakers and obviously I set up the Bluetooth to do so
06:28and about 10% of the time when I come there the next time it automatically
06:33connects to the Bluetooth which is nice and convenient other times I have to first
06:39scroll down there you see he's the Bluetooth and you hold it in and then
06:45it's gonna show you all the devices that have been paired with this I have to
06:49always click first the iFit audio then it will reconnect to the treadmill but yeah
06:54that's annoying for some reason I wanted to automatically connect to the device
07:00the next time when I bring it close so I don't know if that's a setting I can set on
07:04here probably not but I might have a look at that now one thing I find
07:08seriously irritating is well this tablet comes bundled with Vodacom SIM card which
07:16you might say alright that's good gives you an extra phone number but of course
07:21you must RECA it first if you don't know what that is it means you must first
07:26register it in the store as you buy it into this big database of cell phone
07:32numbers and all some cards supposedly so they can fight scams and crime but in my
07:41opinion that just causes more crime I don't know if it's the shop assistant who
07:45scans the number in who's supposed to register it to then later sells it to
07:50whatever a syndicate or something or if the problem is the RECA system itself
07:55maybe employees or even people behind RECA they use those numbers for their
08:01scams and yeah then this tablet every now and then it gives you a new SMS message
08:07you've won this lottery you've won that lottery you've won this you've inherited
08:13money from day one though those messages just start streaming in so
08:18personally I have no trust in the RECA system I mean it must be from there I have
08:23not given this number to anybody else so that part I'm not happy about all right
08:29those are my opinions on this tablet then maybe if I bought the other one of the
08:34two that were the same price I would have gotten a nice crispy clear resolution
08:39maybe I'm just guessing another make might have been better than Telefunken I
08:45keep wanting to say Tedelecs but no it's Telefunken overall though it does work yeah so
08:51that's my story so far with this tablet now you please hit the like and
08:55subscribe button see if you're not subscribed yet and we'll talk about more
09:00junk in the next video later
