00:01Brock and I bought a house here in Sioux Falls.
00:04No way.
00:05We got to bring it back to the 80s.
00:07Square tile, glass block, pink toilet.
00:10This is so opposite of anything that we've done.
00:13It's going to be good.
00:14It's getting us out of our comfort zone.
00:16It is, but I'm also a little nervous because it's family.
00:19There's so much to patch in that we'll just have to rip out all of this and replace it.
00:24My brother and Colleen have a very clear vision,
00:27so having to call them and change that.
00:30It sucks.
00:31You talk.
00:32You talk?
00:33Oh, my God, babe, it's so broke.
00:35Hey, me.
00:36Here we go.
00:42My true personal style is cowboy contemporary.
00:47Rich, warm, but also rugged and edgy.
00:51Oh, my God!
00:53We have our design business here in Sioux Falls,
00:56and we are showing clients how to go bold with their design.
00:59I don't even feel like I'm cool enough to live in this house.
01:03As a teen mom, having a baby at 18, I had to grow up fast,
01:07but that made me confident in who I am,
01:09and that confidence comes to life in my designs.
01:12We have an amazing life out here on a farm,
01:14raising our four kids, all while running our business.
01:17We love it, and we love doing it together.
01:19Like, you're my best freaking friend.
01:21And you're my best friend.
01:22Oh, baby, if you're ready to go, all you gotta do is let me know.
01:35Your mom and dad are angels for picking up the kids for us.
01:39I'll make dinner, and we'll hang out for a little bit.
01:41Yeah.
01:42My mom's always willing to take the kids,
01:43help us out, help pick them up.
01:44Ever since we had kids, she's been right there.
01:46Mm-hmm.
01:47She's been a huge help to us.
01:48Hey!
01:49Surprise!
01:50Hey, guys!
01:51Surprise!
01:52I didn't know you guys were gonna be here yet!
01:54Woo!
01:55Brock is my older brother.
01:56Colleen is his wife.
01:57They currently live in California,
01:59but they've been looking for some land here
02:01to maybe build a house in Sioux Falls.
02:02What are you guys, like, envisioning?
02:04Building from the ground up an A-frame.
02:07But then for the inside, you know you guys gotta help.
02:10Yes.
02:11We'll trade babysitting duties for design services.
02:14Brock, to me, is like Cole in an alternate reality.
02:18They are so similar, and they look similar.
02:21Would you have long hair in a cowboy hat?
02:23I... maybe.
02:25What are you guys doing here?
02:27We have some news we're gonna tell you guys.
02:30We've got a new project for you.
02:32Brock and I bought a house here in Sioux Falls.
02:35No way.
02:36We're here to close.
02:37I thought you guys wanted to build from scratch.
02:39Well, then we found a house that just had to be saved.
02:42It was built in 1983.
02:44The previous owners did a lot of renovations.
02:49It's just not us.
02:50Okay.
02:51We gotta bring it back to the 80s, but modern.
02:53Okay.
02:54I'm excited to work together.
02:56And if you guys are free tomorrow, we can go check the house out.
02:59Absolutely.
03:00We can be free.
03:01I can't believe both of them will be back here.
03:03I know.
03:04I never thought Brock would come back to be here.
03:07Right?
03:08Well, yeah.
03:09I'm ready.
03:10I'm ready to spend my summers here.
03:11Yay!
03:12Woo!
03:17I'm Cole's older brother, and I had the mustache first.
03:20Just so it's known.
03:22Brock and I have been together for 20 years.
03:24We met at freshman year at the Kansas City Art Institute.
03:28Now we're both artists as our career.
03:31We had a dream of buying a house in Joshua Tree in the high desert.
03:35We just spent the last three, four years completely gutting it and bringing it back to the 80s.
03:41So we installed glass block.
03:43Every fixture piece of furniture is original from the 70s, 80s, or 90s.
03:48This house popped up, and once we saw it and saw how beautiful it was, we're just like, this is it.
03:54Yep.
03:55We want to collaborate with Cole and Chelsea because having this opportunity now to work together, it's a pretty cool chance that we get to do.
04:02Be near our nieces and nephew during summer when they're out of school. We're really excited for that.
04:07We've been in the incubator too long.
04:11Why does it come and go?
04:15The neighborhood that Brock and Colleen bought their house in is all these almost like eccentric homes.
04:22All older.
04:23Yeah.
04:24You know, it's definitely not a brand new neighborhood.
04:26Like how cool this is!
04:27Whoa.
04:28How wild that they're going to have a house in.
04:29I know you're excited.
04:30I know I'm excited.
04:31To have your brother around.
04:32Of course.
04:33Growing up, my brother and I worked close, like we did play together.
04:37But he's four years older than me, so him and his friends, we kind of, we just fight.
04:41I was the classic older brother.
04:43You know, I was always chasing him and his friends around with my buddies, doing classic older brother stuff.
04:49I think when he left for college, we definitely got a lot closer.
04:52Because it's like once they're not around, then you realize how important they really are to you.
04:57I don't want to mess it up.
04:58I just want to be around my brother more.
05:00Hi, guys.
05:01Hey, guys.
05:02This is awesome.
05:03Hello.
05:04This is sweet.
05:05This is what we were telling you about.
05:06It feels like so your guys' vibe.
05:08All the brickwork, the windows, the skylights.
05:11Get me inside.
05:12Yep.
05:13Let's see this.
05:14This is so exciting.
05:16Oh.
05:17Oh, yeah.
05:18My gosh.
05:19This is so cool.
05:21It feels very you.
05:23Why I fell in love with it.
05:24Oh, yes.
05:25So, I'm obsessed.
05:26Oh, I love the wood.
05:27All the brick.
05:28Wow.
05:29This speaks to me.
05:30This feels very you guys.
05:32Like, you like the tile and then tree.
05:34I love the tile.
05:35I love the tile.
05:36That was a big selling point.
05:37And it kind of speaks to what we have in Joshua Tree, too.
05:39Yeah.
05:40Salcutta tiles.
05:41You don't want to make it look like a brand new house.
05:44No, I do not.
05:45No.
05:46I want to bring it back to its glory of 80s days.
05:49Okay.
05:50But still, of course, modern.
05:51Yeah.
05:52For sure.
05:53Modern touches.
05:54Yeah.
05:55But, you know, breathing life back into the 80s presence of this house.
05:58This room, I feel like, isn't a lot of change.
06:00No.
06:01It's just kind of crushing it up a little bit.
06:02Yeah.
06:03Mm-hmm.
06:04Double-sided fireplace.
06:05Huge selling point.
06:06This is our dining room.
06:07Okay.
06:08What we envision.
06:09Yep.
06:10Yep.
06:11It just feels, like, very closed off.
06:13Yeah.
06:14We really want some more openness here.
06:16Yeah.
06:17To feel more connected.
06:18This is really weird.
06:19Yeah.
06:20And then this space would be, like, the formal living room.
06:23Okay.
06:26Dream scenario for your kitchen.
06:28What would it be?
06:29Make it a functional but open and modern kitchen with 80s touches.
06:34Okay.
06:35Do you feel like you want to keep a breakfast nook?
06:38Or would you be opposed to making this whole thing kitchen?
06:40Whole thing kitchen.
06:41Yeah.
06:42I think it needs to all be kitchen.
06:43That allows us to get more storage.
06:44Mm-hmm.
06:45Get a better layout.
06:46And then figure something out with this setup here.
06:49It's obviously high on the other side.
06:51I'm wondering if it's bar height.
06:52That would be a little higher.
06:53That would be a little higher.
06:54Right?
06:55Because then you could have seating.
06:56If we could pull that off and have a couple seats.
06:58Yeah.
06:59I think that'd be a really amazing moment.
07:01I would love to keep this high on the kitchen.
07:03So basically anywhere this original tile is, you want to keep it?
07:06Yes.
07:07When you say a more modern home but with 80s touches, are you saying like color?
07:13Like what are you thinking?
07:14Like what do you envision?
07:15Mauves.
07:16Mauves?
07:17I want the most dramatic countertop possible.
07:20Oh.
07:21Square tile.
07:22Glass block.
07:23You know pink toilets.
07:24That kind of thing.
07:25Oh my gosh.
07:26Like this is so opposite of anything that I've done and we've done.
07:31Absolutely.
07:32A fun challenge.
07:33It is.
07:34It's definitely going to be.
07:35In collaboration.
07:36Yes.
07:37I'm actually excited to learn about this design era.
07:40Mm-hmm.
07:41And maybe there's going to be little bits that we take away from this that we would use in
07:45a project.
07:46Take this light.
07:47Okay.
07:48But this is going to be a moment for one of Brock's porcelain lights.
07:51Okay.
07:52Got an idea for here.
07:53Awesome.
07:54My brother is a ceramic porcelain artist.
07:57Mainly his art is more like sculptures or things that can sit on like a table.
08:03He's done light pictures in the past and he wants to make some for this house.
08:07Welcome to the upstairs.
08:08This is cool.
08:09We're envisioning just closing this whole thing off for one huge primary suite.
08:16That's gone.
08:17It's more open.
08:18Right.
08:19Glass block all the way across.
08:21Like the whole wall.
08:22The whole wall.
08:23I think that looks so badass.
08:24Yeah.
08:25Yeah.
08:26When I hear a glass block wall it just sounds expensive.
08:29That's the difference between me and Cole is he hears that and he thinks it sounds expensive.
08:32I hear it and I'm like that sounds so cool.
08:34It sounds challenge accepted.
08:35I'm similar to Chelsea where I just don't care.
08:38I like the coolness.
08:40Yeah.
08:41I mean it sounds really cool.
08:42I'm just thinking it sounds expensive at the same time.
08:45Then there's this room.
08:47Doesn't work.
08:48No.
08:49Yeah.
08:50And then is there another bedroom here?
08:51There's a bathroom.
08:52Okay.
08:53Oh we're going back in 10.
08:54Okay wait.
08:55So do you like this?
08:57I mean I love the toilet and the fixtures but I don't love the toilet.
09:01I love the aesthetic.
09:02But the idea of like the square tile and the colored toilet like that is you guys.
09:09That gets me.
09:10You need like a more updated version of this and bigger.
09:13Yes.
09:14Yes.
09:15Exactly.
09:16I definitely am seeing your vision of having this whole area be the primary like actually
09:22gets me so excited.
09:23Like you want to put a wall up.
09:25Yes.
09:26You knock this wall out, the next wall and then I can go into the bathroom and have like
09:31a big walk-in bathroom.
09:32For sure.
09:33Yes.
09:34Like two vanities but still keeping your style.
09:36Yes of course.
09:37With the glass block and maybe some like curved walls and all the fun stuff.
09:41Oh I love that.
09:42So we'll reach out to Dan.
09:43He's our GC.
09:44Yeah.
09:45Dan's going to be a party pooper.
09:46Wah wah.
09:47A lot of times when we work with people they maybe don't have such a clear vision on what
09:54they're looking for and that's why they hire us.
09:57That's not the case here.
09:59Brock and Colleen they know the vision.
10:01They know exactly what fixtures down to the details.
10:05I'm excited to do this but is definitely way out of our comfort zone.
10:10My colors aren't usually pink and purple.
10:13I'm just so excited to try to make that vision come to life.
10:22It's harder doing this project with them deeply involved because they're not here.
10:26They're back in California working.
10:28So I think we're just going to have to keep our lines of communication a bit more open
10:31than we're used to.
10:32We figured out a plan.
10:34They signed off on things and this thing's happening.
10:36So this is going to be way different than anything we've done before.
10:40This whole space is a collaboration with Brock and Colleen.
10:45We're bringing like the 80s back.
10:47Yeah.
10:48This house is going to be like 80s dream.
10:49I wasn't even alive in the 80s.
10:51I was alive in the 80s.
10:53Barely.
10:54I did do a lot of research on what does postmodern 80s look like.
10:59It's a lot of crazy color combos, pastels, also some bold black and white and geometric shapes and glass block.
11:09But it's going to be good.
11:10It's getting us out of our comfort zone.
11:12It is, but I'm also a little nervous because it's family.
11:15Right.
11:16They don't live here, so they don't get to see everything that we're doing all the time.
11:21So I do feel like I've seen a side of you where you just want to prove like, look what we are doing.
11:26Yeah.
11:27I think maybe that's what it is.
11:28It's just you want to feel like he's proud of me for what we're doing.
11:32All of this is coming out.
11:33They love the floor in here.
11:35So we're going to keep the tile.
11:36So this kitchen is going to be really cool.
11:38We're going to open up this wall as much as possible, but we are going to have two posts on either side.
11:43And then we are closing off this door here.
11:45We're doing natural wood cabinets.
11:47We're going to do square tiling on the backsplash and the vent hood.
11:51The countertops are going to be a lighter color to contrast with the dark cabinets.
11:55And along that seating area, we'll cut them into a scalloped edge for some extra retro vibes.
12:00It's definitely different than what we've done before.
12:02Right.
12:03But it's going to look awesome.
12:04All right.
12:05Let's head upstairs because there's kind of a lot happening up there.
12:08Okay.
12:09This is where a lot is happening, but it's going to be really badass.
12:14So this is all going to be one giant main suite.
12:18It's going to make more sense than just having these like blocked off little areas.
12:22So we're walling this off door over here, bed here, walking off to the atrium.
12:27That would be so cool.
12:28There's going to be a privacy wall into their bathroom, and they would love if we could glass block this whole wall.
12:35I'm actually excited.
12:36This one's going to be a pretty cool transformation up here.
12:38Oh, it will.
12:39This is going to be nuts.
12:40Yeah.
12:41So this is all going to be open in part of the bedroom and then leading into their new main bathroom.
12:48Obviously, for a main bathroom, this is not very big.
12:51So we're going to blow this wall out, and this is going to be a cool big walk-in bathroom now.
12:56It's definitely collab with them.
12:57It's going full 80s dream in here.
13:00We're getting rid of all the brown.
13:02We'll have a new tub, a separate walk-in shower, custom cabinetry with some teal marble countertops.
13:08And we're going to bring in like pink, pink toilet, pink glass block, pink, pink, pink.
13:13Have you ever worked with glass block before?
13:15Not one time.
13:16Not even removing it?
13:17I've never even demoed it.
13:18No.
13:19Oh, really?
13:20Mm-mm.
13:21Me either.
13:22That's actually something we're going to have to talk to the engineer about because that's
13:24a lot of weight to that.
13:25Okay.
13:26Brock and Colleen love glass block, and it's a huge part of the style we're going for here.
13:30The problem is, one little square of glass block is extremely heavy, and that balcony
13:35is an overhang.
13:36I'm not getting my hopes up, but hopefully we're good to go.
13:43I'm definitely nervous about this one.
13:45It's because it is so different for us, and it's family, and their expectations are going
13:51to be very high.
13:53Like, they look at everything as their art, and I'm sure they're going to view this home
13:58as like a piece of their art, and so I think they are going to be perfectionists.
14:03Hey, Cole.
14:04I don't know if you saw this or not, but I've got some bad news.
14:08Oh, Lord.
14:11Everywhere we take up this floor, tile's not underneath of it, so it's going to be really
14:16difficult to patch this back in.
14:17For sure.
14:18And there's a bunch of cracked anyway.
14:20Let's say you just get rid of all of them.
14:22Yeah.
14:23Start fresh?
14:24Well, I'll tell Chelsea, I guess.
14:27Hi there.
14:28Hi.
14:29There's no tile under any of these cabinets.
14:31When we tear this out, we're going to just have to patch pieces in, but then the grout
14:35wouldn't look the same.
14:36So you would definitely be able to tell the new and old tile.
14:39Since we're closing off the kitchen anyway, I think we'll just have to rip out all of this
14:43and replace it.
14:44I know they want the terracotta tile.
14:46I know, so...
14:47We'll place it with terracotta tile.
14:49We will have to find the exact match.
14:52I definitely don't want it to look like Ms. Mackie and Mackie.
14:56Right.
14:57It's just not going to look good.
14:58They do love that tile, but we got to do what we got to do.
15:02For sure.
15:03Well, why don't we just start searching for the same tile?
15:05All right.
15:06Love you.
15:07All right.
15:08Well, then I guess we'll just tear it out all of the floor in here.
15:10All right.
15:17Hey, guys.
15:18The engineer just let me know that there's no way the house can support all the glass
15:22block on that second floor.
15:23Definitely not what we wanted to hear.
15:25We're going to have to come up with an alternate design up there.
15:28Ugh.
15:29Things just keep piling up.
15:30Most times when you call a homeowner, you kind of just get the green light and they're
15:33like, thank you for raising this issue.
15:35That's okay if you can't do it.
15:36So be it.
15:37This isn't the case in this house.
15:39My brother and Colleen have a very clear vision.
15:41We're trying to execute that vision.
15:43So having to call them and change that so early in this process.
15:48It sucks.
15:49You talk.
15:50You talk.
15:54Hello.
15:55Hi.
15:56How are you?
15:57Good, you?
15:58Oh, great.
15:59Yeah, I know that you guys wanted an entire wall of glass block up on the balcony.
16:03We had an engineer come in and he explained to us that that is way too much weight for
16:08that balcony to hold.
16:09Dang.
16:10That is a bummer.
16:11I'm going to have to tell Brock.
16:13I know he's going to be really bummed about that.
16:18We can definitely incorporate glass block.
16:20Like I know how important that is to you guys.
16:23So I was thinking instead we could move the closet to that wall, give it a curved edge
16:28so we still get some of that 80s vibe in there.
16:30And then we just do a small section of glass block as a nod to the original plan.
16:34Yep.
16:35I love that idea.
16:36We do have one more thing after removing all the cabinets in the kitchen.
16:40Obviously we have to replace those spots with tile.
16:42Well, that's so many areas to replace that I think it's just going to look weird with
16:46the new tile and the old.
16:47It's hard to put new tile to match, you know, tile that's been installed in the house for
16:52a while.
16:53So we're just going to replace the entire kitchen tile.
16:55That's a bummer, but I totally understand that.
16:59I do think you'll be happy with it in the end.
17:02I think there's a couple of boxes in the basement.
17:05Ooh.
17:06I should be able to find an exact match.
17:08Okay, that's...
17:09Okay, great.
17:10...amazing news.
17:11We'll take any boxes we can because we're going to need quite a few.
17:14Okay.
17:15Yep, we'll talk to you later.
17:16Love you guys.
17:17Love you, bye.
17:18All right, should we go hunt for some tile?
17:19Let's find some tile.
17:20Let's go.
17:22Oh my God, now that's a lot of terracotta tile.
17:24This is kind of creepy in here.
17:26I think this is cool.
17:27There's so many rooms.
17:29There's so many rooms.
17:30This is a utility room.
17:31I assumed it'd be in here.
17:33Definitely no tile.
17:34Okay, next.
17:35This is like the never-ending house.
17:37There's like a thousand rooms in here.
17:40Babe.
17:41Are you really that scared?
17:43I get scared, you see.
17:44Don't be scared.
17:45What are you scared of?
17:47There's weird vibes.
17:48There's some tile.
17:49You found it.
17:50I sure did.
17:52How much do we got?
17:53How much do we need?
17:54For that space up there, probably another four boxes or more.
17:59So we can use this box to help us source more of the exact same tile.
18:02We have one box here.
18:03Price saves a couple hundred bucks.
18:05Hey, I'll take that.
18:06Whoop, whoop.
18:07Okay, wins.
18:08If you are my favorite place to ride.
18:11Oh, my God.
18:15Paul and I are heading back from scouting another potential client's house.
18:18We are right in the middle of Brock and Colleen's house.
18:21And we're busy at the store as always.
18:23And everything's going on.
18:25But we just do like quick little scouts.
18:27Yep.
18:28Whenever we can fit them in.
18:29And...
18:30Gotta see what's out there.
18:31Gotta see what's out there.
18:32And even if it doesn't work out, we just keep going and on to the next house.
18:37Yep.
18:38Gotta give each one a chance.
18:39Yes.
18:43Whoa.
18:44This looks really good.
18:45Yeah.
18:46This is gonna be a huge main suite.
18:48You guys actually were?
18:49Just when you guys are around.
18:51How's it going?
18:52Good.
18:53And bad.
18:54This is...
18:55Bad?
18:56What's bad?
18:57Our new toilet space is clear over in this corner.
18:59Right.
19:00They can't get the plumbing from this toilet to that corner.
19:03Okay.
19:04And the floor is so thin that they can't get the size pipe through it.
19:08Can you fit it?
19:09Oh no.
19:10Because we'll cut too much of the floor out in order to get it there.
19:12Okay.
19:13So what if we just flip where the water closet and the new shower are going to be?
19:16I don't hate that.
19:17No, I actually kind of like it.
19:18Then we can get everything where we need to because we can just run this toilet straight over here.
19:22Put it right in that corner.
19:23Mm-hmm.
19:24So when you walk in here, you have your vanity, nice curved wall.
19:29Feels like balanced.
19:31Okay.
19:32Well, I'll let you give him a jingle.
19:34It definitely does not feel good to constantly have to call my brother with either a problem or more changes
19:41because I feel like he may just be losing faith in what we have going on here.
19:46They'll be fine.
19:47I'll just get my mom and dad on the phone too and we'll do a buddy call.
19:51That way he can't be mean.
19:52You're going to be a big boy.
19:54And call them.
19:55He used to beat me up.
19:57You're still scared.
19:58No, I just don't want to disappoint.
20:00All right, let me know what they say.
20:02Well, if I'm crying later, then you know what they say.
20:09Lord.
20:10What's up?
20:11What's up?
20:12I'm just hanging around your house.
20:16I just have a few things I wanted to run by you.
20:19Okay.
20:20Okay.
20:21So the layout of the bathroom.
20:22I know that we wanted to move the toilet across the room in the other corner.
20:25Well, there's not enough room in the floor for us to put the drain.
20:30So we can move it on the other side of the room and then we'll just put the shower where the toilet room was supposed to be.
20:37Uh-huh.
20:38Okay.
20:39I mean, sounds good to me.
20:42All right.
20:43Well, I'm glad because I don't know what other options we had.
20:48All right.
20:49Well, that's great.
20:50This went well.
20:51All right.
20:52I'll see you later.
20:53Way better than expected.
20:55I'm really hoping I'll have to make more of these phone calls.
20:58In the bed.
20:59In the heart of the mountain.
21:01In the heart of the stairs.
21:05This bedroom and bathroom is coming together.
21:10It's insane in these curved walls.
21:12I'm excited to see how this turns out.
21:14Also, this will be filled with glass block right here.
21:17This is cool.
21:23Cabinets were supposed to be here today.
21:25I don't know if it's because it's a rainy day or what, but obviously they're not here.
21:28There's one good thing.
21:29The new tile looks amazing.
21:30It does.
21:31I almost forgot that this was...
21:33Brand new.
21:34Yeah.
21:35Rob and Colleen knew exactly what they wanted upstairs, but as far as the kitchen, they were a little bit more open to our ideas.
21:41Yeah.
21:42And I want to find a countertop that's like crazy, like something that we have not done before.
21:46Something dramatic that's going to take this to the next level.
21:49All right.
21:50I love it.
21:56Today is exciting.
21:57We are going to see the mock-up of the scalloped edge that we're doing on Brock and Colleen's countertop.
22:07This is our guy, honey.
22:09So it has reddish, maroon throughout, and I think that's going to look really good with the dark cabinets.
22:14I've never done a scalloped countertop edge.
22:17Bringing in this kind of mauve-y, purple-y color was the perfect way to do a little splash of color, but it's not overwhelming and it's a more modern version of the 80s.
22:27Cool. Chelsea.
22:28Hi.
22:29It's always good having you guys in here.
22:30Yes.
22:31Oh, absolutely.
22:32This is what it looks like.
22:33Oh, my God. It's so cute.
22:34Picture this in that color.
22:36Oh, I know.
22:37With the maroon and everything.
22:38Yeah, mm-hmm.
22:39That is going to look so cool.
22:40It's going to have such a retro feel.
22:41I've never seen a countertop like that.
22:43This is going to look so good.
22:44Well, it's the first time we've done it, so.
22:46Okay, so do you get nervous doing something you haven't done before or you're excited?
22:49Oh.
22:50Well, actually, I get excited.
22:51Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:52Because things like this geek me out.
22:54We have it on the table ready to go.
22:55You guys want to check it out?
22:56I do.
22:57Yes.
22:58Go ahead, set it up.
22:59This is fun.
23:00I know.
23:01This is cool.
23:02Yeah.
23:03So this is diamonds moving at a rate of 10 inches per minute.
23:06Wow.
23:07Oh, I'm going to get worded on.
23:09You guys absolutely killed it.
23:11I love it.
23:12Oh, yeah.
23:13We came at the perfect time.
23:14I know.
23:15I appreciate you guys bringing me some challenges.
23:16Of course.
23:17Oh, yeah.
23:18We'll keep it up.
23:19We'll keep it up.
23:20If you want me tonight, 85, ride or die.
23:30All right.
23:31The tile is getting installed tomorrow.
23:33Woo.
23:34And we have been on a journey.
23:37The tile journey.
23:38Need to find something that feels very 80s.
23:40They were really big on geometric shapes and patterns back then, especially squares.
23:45So, Brock actually found this one.
23:48I'm going to go up in the shower, all over the floor.
23:52And then this mixed with some glass block.
23:55Look how cool it is.
23:56I think I do like glass block, I'm not going to lie.
23:58It looks like you have a huge, one huge mustache.
24:01That's hilarious.
24:02Whoa.
24:03What?
24:04You look like a toad.
24:07Toad with a mustache.
24:08Cute.
24:09Oh, my God.
24:10A handsome toad.
24:11Still a toad.
24:12I have a confession.
24:14What?
24:15It looks good.
24:16It looks really good.
24:17The pink looks good.
24:19I'm scared.
24:20It does.
24:21I'm scared.
24:22Are you turning into a pink girl?
24:23No.
24:24Pink girl?
24:25No.
24:26That looks good.
24:27I definitely wouldn't say that this design style is something that I am obsessed with,
24:32but I totally respect Rockin' Colleen's love for it.
24:36One thing I do love from this era is all the curves.
24:39Like, I love the curved wall.
24:40Right.
24:41You know, even on a closet.
24:42Like, that's such a fun, unique feature.
24:44And it totally feels like a modern version of something from the 80s.
24:52Never, ever in my life did I ever notice glass block anywhere.
24:58And now, ever since starting Brock and Colleen's house, everywhere I go and I notice glass block,
25:03I have to stop and just admire it.
25:06I'm becoming obsessed.
25:16We need to find some window treatments that go with the unique features of Brock and Colleen's house.
25:22Uh-huh.
25:23Do they sell, like, 80 shades here?
25:25I don't know.
25:26Like, I don't think those are the vines.
25:30Look at these.
25:31These are fun.
25:32You're easily amused.
25:34We have this look.
25:35We have a pole, but they're way too modern for this house.
25:39I think these, honey, these are given kind of sexy.
25:44I like those.
25:45I don't know.
25:46I feel like these are modern, but they fit the vibe of the house.
25:50They, like, match the trim.
25:51They do.
25:52The whole house.
25:53These are the best option.
25:56These are moving and grooving.
25:57I like the dark wood.
25:58This is adorable.
25:59I really love how that turned out.
26:00I'm obsessed with the color on these cabinets.
26:01I love the dark stain organization.
26:02We love that.
26:03Oh, look at this.
26:04What?
26:05Interesting, lazy Susan.
26:06I feel like that's not a lazy Susan.
26:07What's, like, a younger name?
26:08Younger?
26:09A lazy Brittany.
26:10A lazy Brittany.
26:11Lazy Brittany.
26:12Lazy Brittany.
26:13All right, let's find the hardware, please, because I've been wanting to see it.
26:15Oh, it's literally right there.
26:16Nobs for kitchen.
26:17Nobs for kitchen.
26:18Oh, it's literally right there.
26:19Colleen ordered these.
26:21Okay.
26:22This is what they wanted.
26:23Yeah.
26:24I'm excited to do this.
26:25Oh.
26:26Those are for the bathroom upstairs.
26:27Funky.
26:28Hardware, please, because I've been wanting to see it.
26:30Oh, it's literally right there.
26:33Colleen ordered these.
26:35Okay.
26:36This is what they wanted.
26:37Yeah.
26:37I'm excited.
26:38Those are for the bathroom upstairs.
26:40Funky.
26:41This is the size diamond I deserve.
26:43I don't know how I would ever get that much money.
26:45I could start stripping.
26:47That's okay.
26:48All right, I want to see the kitchen ones.
26:50Oh, plum.
26:53Expanding our color palette.
26:55That's actually going to look really nice
26:56with the countertops
26:58because the countertops have, like,
27:01this purple-y, mauve-y marbling throughout.
27:03Yeah.
27:04Look at that.
27:04That's a big old knob.
27:05It's a big knob.
27:06It's kind of cool.
27:07Oh, you broke it.
27:10Are you me?
27:12Oh, my God, babe.
27:14It's so broke.
27:15Oh, my God.
27:17I am not usually the person that breaks things.
27:19Usually, it's coal.
27:20I mean, I'm not excited that it happened,
27:24but it feels good it was me.
27:26This company is in the Netherlands.
27:29Of course, I dropped the one
27:30that is delivered from another country.
27:33I know.
27:33You've never dropped one before that broke,
27:35so why not?
27:37Usually, they're, like, metal.
27:38Maybe there's an extra one.
27:41No, babe.
27:41There's no effing way.
27:43Wait.
27:44One, two, three,
27:45four, five, six,
27:46seven, eight, nine, ten.
27:48Please, Jesus Christ.
27:49I hate how hard I watched.
27:5133.
27:52It says there's 35.
27:53I think you're good.
27:55Get me out of this kitchen right now.
27:56Huh?
27:58Oh, man.
28:03Our brick-and-mortar store has been open
28:05for a few months now,
28:06and things are going great,
28:07but we had a girl call into the store sick.
28:10Totally happens,
28:11but today we don't have anyone to cover,
28:14so I am kind of switching my day around
28:16to go open up the store.
28:19Hi, how are you?
28:20Let me know if you need any help with anything.
28:24There's some mornings I wake up,
28:26and I look in the mirror,
28:27and I'm like, I got this,
28:28and then there's other days I wake up in the morning,
28:31I look in the mirror,
28:31and I'm like,
28:32I am going to have a mental breakdown.
28:35Today is feeling like one of those days.
28:37Hi, Mary.
28:39I just wanted to remind you
28:41that we had those light fixtures
28:42being delivered to Brock and Colleen's house today.
28:46If you were in town,
28:47if you could just swing by their house
28:49and just make sure they were dropped off there,
28:51that would be amazing.
28:54We do all of this just for our family.
28:56Yeah, even though there's some times
28:57where I'm worried about how hard this is,
29:01I truly do believe that this is going to be worth it.
29:05That keeps us going.
29:12You got to be careful with these going up the stairs.
29:17They're tan, dude.
29:18Have a moment in the 80s.
29:19Have a moment in the 80s.
29:20But it's definitely making a comeback,
29:22and using it as an accent on stuff like furniture
29:24or these closet doors
29:25brings in a timeless, natural vibe.
29:27These look great.
29:28Yeah, they actually do.
29:30You traveled back in time.
29:31Yeah.
29:32Well, it looks like the glass block's about to start.
29:34I think this might be a first for him
29:35doing pink glass block.
29:37Oh, really?
29:37Yeah.
29:38Let's see what it looks like.
29:40I mean, it looks great,
29:40but why is that one a different color?
29:42Yeah, that's a good question.
29:43It's like...
29:44It's a little browner.
29:45Brown.
29:45Like, it looks pink,
29:46but when you lay it next to the other ones,
29:48it's brown.
29:49Oh, it's this.
29:50This is the problem box.
29:52Box color.
29:52Look how old that box is.
29:54These have been sitting since 2017.
29:56It looks like these newer boxes are all...
29:57These are all right.
29:58...the right color.
29:59Do you think we have enough, though,
30:01to just eliminate this box?
30:03Yeah, I think they'll be good.
30:04Yeah, it was probably one full box.
30:06Right.
30:06That was wrong.
30:07We actually bought everything they had in this one.
30:09Oh, really?
30:10Well, I feel like when you pick unique things
30:11that nobody uses,
30:12these are the kind of things you're going to do.
30:14Yeah.
30:14Well, when I'm with you,
30:17I feel it in my bloodline.
30:20Ice cold with the gold, too.
30:23But you don't want to shine your light.
30:27Hello.
30:29Hi.
30:29What's up?
30:30I was able to run home.
30:33Another one of the girls came in to cover us at the store,
30:35so I ran home.
30:37I'm going to work on some orders.
30:38Oh, cool.
30:39I'm building dog stairs.
30:40Cute, cute, cute.
30:42Brock and Colleen's dogs have legs maybe this big.
30:46I don't know if they're allowed on the bed,
30:47but I'm giving them the opportunity.
30:48Here's the little stairs.
30:50Oh, those are cute.
30:51On the side, there's actually going to be a drawer
30:55that can be pulled out,
30:57and then it will have all the little dog bowls
31:01for both dogs.
31:02Stop.
31:02Oh, okay, that's cute.
31:05As far as hardware goes,
31:06so I have, like, these longer rattan poles,
31:10or we have rattan knobs to choose from.
31:13I feel like with the size of the drawer,
31:16it's going to be easier to open with, like, handles.
31:18All right, cool.
31:19Well, then, if you like it, I like it.
31:21I love that the rattan matches their door in there,
31:24and adding the bowls is just next level.
31:27I feel like they're going to love that.
31:28Yeah, I sure hope so.
31:29Brock and Colleen's dogs compared to our dogs.
31:33It's like Brock and Colleen and us.
31:36Ours are...
31:37Dirty.
31:37Probably got chicken s*** matted in their fur.
31:40Ours like to roll in the dirt.
31:41They stink.
31:43God.
31:48All right, the bathroom countertop is coming in.
31:51She's gorgeous.
31:52I'm obsessed.
31:54What do you think of the mom, guys?
31:56A Plum Palace.
31:57Yeah, well...
31:58Plum Palace.
32:00They are putting in the scallop.
32:05It looks so freaking good.
32:11Fexy.
32:12A selfie with my scallops.
32:14They're not mine, but you know what I mean.
32:15As things are coming together, I'm, like, shocked.
32:18Like, it is a cool look.
32:19It's going to make me better as a designer
32:23when I can learn about different styles
32:25that I normally wouldn't have looked at.
32:28I think this'll kind of help me take a little bit more risk.
32:31Yeah, baby.
32:35Oh, yes.
32:37Perfect fit.
32:38Perfect fit.
32:39I really love how the bathroom came together.
32:42I think it looks so fun.
32:44I love these lights.
32:45They're modern, but they give a retro feel still.
32:50I think, like, laying them vertically like that
32:52on either side of the mirror is just, like, the vibe.
32:54I've been doing a lot of research about 80s design,
32:57and so I'm just trying to find, like, little things
33:00and little ways to pull it into this whole house.
33:03And I'm actually obsessed with the glass block.
33:06I'm a big fan of the glass block.
33:08I think this is so cool.
33:09I just think, wouldn't this be, like,
33:11such a good backdrop for photos?
33:13Put your leg out.
33:14I like that.
33:15The angle's off.
33:17You don't need to lean it hard.
33:18It's too low.
33:20I'm so bad at pictures.
33:21Cole takes pretty good photos of, like,
33:24animals and landscapes,
33:27but he takes the worst photos of me.
33:31Mm-hmm.
33:32Like, sometimes it ruins my whole night.
33:34Wow, I didn't know I could look like that.
33:35I think it's who's getting her picture taken
33:38is being a little picky at my photos sometimes.
33:42You look great.
33:44That's good.
33:45Send me that.
33:47Oh, my God.
33:57Hi.
33:58Hi there.
33:59Did you get the kids dropped off?
34:00I did.
34:01You excited for a little night out?
34:03It's always fun to get a night out.
34:05Well, and I just feel like
34:07I want to make sure
34:09all of our employees and our girls feel appreciated.
34:13For sure.
34:14You know, this first year of business has been crazy.
34:18It's been wild.
34:18We've really had to kind of lean on them
34:20the last couple months.
34:21Honestly, it's going to be nice
34:23to just have a night out
34:24and blow off some steam
34:25because, I mean, working on my brother's house
34:26has been extremely stressful.
34:28I'm ready to honky-tonk.
34:30Honky-tonk.
34:32Dale.
34:32There he is.
34:34Hi.
34:34Dale brings me so much joy to look at.
34:37I just have never seen anything like that.
34:39I would rather look at Dale than Cole.
34:42What if I took my clothes off?
34:45It was going to be me.
34:46Me and you out on the floor tonight.
34:48Anna, look at that body.
34:50Anna, look at that body.
34:53We want to make sure we're always the people
34:55who are showing people we appreciate them.
34:58And we didn't even do anything over the top.
35:01We literally went to our store,
35:03had pizza, and had a limo take us around town.
35:06It was so much freaking fun.
35:09I was a blast.
35:10I'm glad that we did it for them,
35:11but I think we needed that, too.
35:13Oh, 100%.
35:14I mean, we've just been grinding for, like, months.
35:17It just feels nice to get out and let loose
35:19with the girls you're creating this with, you know?
35:21All right, Dan, just installed the pink toilet.
35:35Brock and Colleen literally picked this out themselves,
35:38had it shipped here, and it worked out so perfect.
35:42That is, like, an exact match.
35:44I'm actually so obsessed with colored toilets.
35:47I never thought that I would be.
35:49It feels so 80s.
35:50I love it so much.
35:52And if you want a statement, this is it.
35:57This is a unique decorating situation for us.
35:59I love it.
36:00Because usually we plan things out and bring them,
36:02but, like, it's a lot of their stuff.
36:04It's a lot of their stuff,
36:05but I think they would be surprised at...
36:08How we can sprinkle our stuff in it?
36:10Yes, yes.
36:10That's a good point.
36:11And this is still 80s, so it's timeless.
36:13I wasn't alive back then.
36:15You keep reminding me of that.
36:16This whole process with Brock and Colleen's house has been unique.
36:22It's down to even, like, when we're decorating.
36:25One, we're using almost all of their things.
36:28And two, Brock is there.
36:30So he's there for this final hoorah of everyone, you know, working on touch-ups.
36:36Is this your phone?
36:37This is the phone.
36:38Kind of the last piece.
36:39I want to see it.
36:40Oh, it's a two-tone.
36:42Yeah, I did a little ombre on it.
36:43So we agreed to let Brock come in to install some of his artwork
36:46because we do feel like it's really going to complete the space,
36:49but we told him he better keep his eyes down as much as possible.
36:53Hopefully, even tomorrow when everything's, like, perfectly clean and set up,
36:57he might still be a little surprised by how everything came together.
37:00For sure.
37:00Even though he's seeing it now.
37:01Oh, hell yeah.
37:03There it is.
37:04It's the perfect fit.
37:06Working with family is complicated.
37:15It completely changes the dynamic, working together.
37:19Even though they've been back in California,
37:21Colleen and Brock were a part of the entire process.
37:24So I'm like, I'm not too nervous, but I am nervous at the same time.
37:27They have to like it, right?
37:28Because they were a part of picking most of these things out.
37:32Yes.
37:32Somehow I am still nervous.
37:34I don't know.
37:36I don't know.
37:38Hello.
37:39Hey, guys.
37:40Welcome back.
37:42You guys brought some California sunshine.
37:44I know.
37:44I can't believe I'm wearing a t-shirt right now.
37:47This is definitely the most wild renovation we've ever done.
37:50From, like, pink to glass block, obviously, like, that's not our usual.
37:55Right.
37:55And I just hope you guys feel like we brought your vision to life.
37:59And I'm excited for you to see it.
38:01Lead the way.
38:01Let's go.
38:02You lead the way.
38:03This is your house.
38:04I think we should start upstairs if you guys are okay with it.
38:06Yeah, let's start upstairs.
38:07Perfect.
38:08Straight upstairs.
38:09Okay.
38:11Here we go.
38:12This is amazing.
38:13I'm in love.
38:15It looks so good.
38:17Look at the light.
38:22Just stunning.
38:23I just can't believe this used to be an open room.
38:25This use of space just feels like it was supposed to be this way.
38:29It makes a lot more sense, especially for you guys.
38:31Yes.
38:32You don't need all those tiny little bedrooms.
38:34You guys need a cool bedroom and a badass bathroom.
38:37Oh, I love it.
38:39Yeah, it's so different.
38:40It's amazing.
38:41And a little Pekingese.
38:43Oh, yeah.
38:44I love it.
38:44Speaking of Pekingese, I made you guys these steps for the dogs to get on the bed.
38:50I love it.
38:50Oh, amazing.
38:51Thank you, Cole.
38:53Oh, man.
38:53Look at that.
38:55Oh, wow, Cole.
38:56This is so incredible.
38:57That's awesome.
38:58That's amazing.
38:59I love that.
39:01Are you guys ready to see the bathroom?
39:02Yes.
39:02I'm kind of obsessed, I'll be honest.
39:05Oh, my God.
39:06Wow.
39:06Look at it.
39:12I can't.
39:13The bathroom of my dreams.
39:15Find the one that's big enough for me.
39:17In the glass block, I am just blown away.
39:20Yeah, it's amazing.
39:21It's so sexy.
39:23I will say it makes a really good photo backdrop.
39:26It does.
39:26Just for you and future reference.
39:30This is a really great spot.
39:31Yes.
39:31Because the window, the natural light, and then the backdrop.
39:33Yeah.
39:34Yeah, it's great.
39:34That natural light coming in here is so nice.
39:37So great.
39:38This is just perfect.
39:39Wow, the pink fixtures.
39:41Yeah, I love the green with the pink and the white tile.
39:45I just love, like, dark walnut stained cabinets right now so much.
39:49Yes.
39:50It's such a vibe.
39:51It's so timeless.
39:52And I think that darkness is so nice with, like, the light floors and the light pink.
39:56It's just, I love how everything came together.
39:59Yeah.
39:59Yeah.
39:59Originally, I think this was your bathroom wall.
40:01Well, and I would have been in the hallway.
40:04Knocking all that out, this bathroom's huge.
40:06Huge.
40:06Yeah.
40:07You're kind of transported into, like, a more modern version of the 80s.
40:11Yeah.
40:12I think people are going to be, like, shocked when they see pictures of it and just be like,
40:16do I like this?
40:17Yeah.
40:17Yeah.
40:18I do really like the white tile and the size.
40:20All right.
40:21Are you guys ready to see the kitchen?
40:24Yes.
40:24Yes.
40:25Let's do it.
40:26All right.
40:27Oh, the carousel lights.
40:28I designed this light.
40:29I love it.
40:30I just noticed the...
40:32Scallops.
40:33Yes.
40:33Oh, I love it.
40:34That's incredible.
40:36It does.
40:36In this kitchen.
40:43And it just feels so open in here.
40:45Oh, this kitchen is just incredible.
40:47So if you remember, it was kind of that, like, trapped little peninsula cave.
40:52Yeah.
40:52Yeah.
40:52This just feels like you can move around.
40:55We closed that door off, which I think totally makes sense.
40:58Yeah.
40:58Closing this in, though, we did get rid of that very tall cabinet over here.
41:02Uh-huh.
41:03Oh, yeah.
41:03Being able to replace it with a whole wall of cabinets over there, like, bringing back
41:08the storage.
41:08Right.
41:09Got a little coffee station.
41:10Oh, I love it.
41:11I love it.
41:12And the tile looks so good with the countertops and the grout.
41:14It really does.
41:15I never thought we'd be using, like, purple grout.
41:19But it only makes sense in here.
41:21Yeah.
41:21Yeah.
41:22And I love the open shelves, too.
41:23Right.
41:24Because there's plenty of storage, it seems.
41:25And it makes it feel so much bigger.
41:27Yeah.
41:27And, like, it just lets you see all of that tile work.
41:31One thing I do want to touch on is the fridge.
41:33I think you guys wanted an all-white fridge.
41:36I don't know what happened.
41:38This is what came.
41:39Your new white fridge literally should be here any day.
41:41So it's coming.
41:42Awesome.
41:43Perfect.
41:43Thank you for taking care of that.
41:50We're so excited to have you guys here and to be able to see you guys more and the kids
41:53to see you guys more.
41:54Yes.
41:55For sure.
41:55This was very important to us, and we put a lot of care into it and wanted you guys
42:00to be proud and wanted you guys to be happy.
42:02Like, truly, that was our goal this whole time.
42:05You guys just nailed it.
42:07I love it all.
42:08I can't wait to enjoy summers here with you guys and make memories with our family.
42:14I can see your dad outside.
42:16I think your mom's here, too.
42:17Should we grab him?
42:18Let's get him.
42:19Yeah, let's do it.
42:23I'm proud of this project.
42:24It's always cool when you can add something new into your repertoire.
42:29Oh, my gosh.
42:31This is insane.
42:33It just shows that we can do any style of any era.
42:37But also, no more family.
42:39It was a little stressful.
42:41I love that your parents came to see the house.
42:43They brought the kids.
42:44It's just cool when they can see what we're working on.
42:48Your dad pulled me aside, and he forced me to look at him dead in the eyes, and he said,
42:53we are so proud of you.
42:55That just made it all worth it.
42:58My dad doesn't even do that.
43:00Yeah.
