03:23So we know that Chelsea and Cole have a design business.
03:24I saw some of their work and was really impressed by it.
03:26I saw they were having a grand opening.
03:27I went down there, met them, and boom, things are happening so fast.
03:32we are they're going to be doing our home who would have thought i'm a nurse i've been a nurse
03:38for the last 16 years i served in the military 12 years four active eight in the reserve now i'm a
03:44certified house husband i'm retired and i'm loving it this was essentially my dream house we're right
03:51adjacent to a highway that takes you right into the city so we're close enough to where it's
03:55convenient and we're far enough away to where we have our privacy and we love it when we first
03:59moved in it was you know just a simple pantry issue didn't have one then we had his mobility issues
04:06i had my knee replaced four years ago and two weeks later got infected and then six months later got
04:12reinfected tim has had six surgeries with the next one being the seventh surgery getting around became
04:18difficult the multi-level was wonderful when we moved in and i was like oh more stairs we're not
04:24very definitive on what style we like but we knew we wanted something well done and we know that that
04:29that's what cole and chelsea bring to the table is something that's well done we used to live over
04:35here right around the corner this area is always special to me because it was the first house i
04:39ever bought and i bought it by myself yeah and then you came along about a year later first week
04:45we hung out i came over and fixed the swing set she just had a handsaw i used her hands on some lumber
04:50she had and i started fixing things but it's just crazy because that's when it all began then i was like
04:55oh cool i want new floors maybe that's why she kept me around i'm ready are you apparently you're
05:00just running hi hello hello it's so nice to meet you again how are you how you doing there's my buddy
05:12cole yes absolutely we used to live in a house literally a couple miles that way and so we've
05:18driven by this house a bajillion times an amazing spot yeah i couldn't ask for better how long have you
05:23you guys lived here almost five years yeah okay it's like longer but almost five yeah time flies
05:29well i'm ready to dive in and hear all about your space here well actually welcome to the pantry come
05:34on in grab a can of soup and make yourself comfortable right it was obviously a coat closet
05:39but it was the only space that would hold everything we didn't have enough space in the
05:42kitchen so i'm assuming you would love for your pantry to be in the kitchen kitchen for sure most
05:47definitely yeah so i noticed you have you know a change of flooring here do you like this
05:51entryway not one bit no with my rollator it gets tricky right transitioning yeah different heights
05:58i got a rug here going into the kitchen you got another lip we just want to get around the house
06:02better yeah right that is a valid thing to want absolutely so as far as flooring would you guys like
06:08to see something like wood some lvp or something easy to keep clean yeah anything that's not carpet
06:15okay do you wish it was easier and more open into the kitchen from here definitely most definitely
06:22she loves popcorn every night and i'll make her popcorn yeah and while i'm out there making popcorn
06:28she's asking questions from here right so if this was gone yeah yeah that would be amazing yeah i'm gonna
06:36try to get it as open as possible anything is better than all of this okay great anything else in
06:42your living room that you love we love the fireplace because it gets a little chilly in here okay like
06:48having the shelves to display things yeah i've been noticing the flags so were you in the service yes
06:53sir i was in the air force oh wow well thank you for your service and i know what that kind of flag is
06:58yes that's my dad's funeral flag i know of this because i remember getting my grandfather's we do
07:03want a place to properly display that oh for sure before we move on i'm kind of interested in what your
07:08style is i don't think i have a style but we like greens i like easy okay yeah that totally makes sense
07:18the dining room is kind of a coat closet we hang clothes extra things that don't fit in the kitchen
07:24if we could get your coat closet to be a coat closet and a pantry to be a pantry i feel like
07:29that'd be a win perfect are you guys cooks i do most of the cooking this could be bigger and more
07:37like counter space most definitely something right also if we can get this soffit out of here because
07:42having the cabinets up to the ceiling tim you could definitely reach up there and i think you could
07:47definitely gain some storage do you have any wishes for the kitchen my only request for this entire
07:52remodel is the backsplash okay this is contact paper that i installed with my daughter okay diy moment
07:58and so to have a real adult backsplash that's pretty and looks great that is my only request from you
08:05guys got it we can do that for you all right we have two handrails that give tim a little extra support
08:11it was kind of nice just to have for anyone honestly
08:13all right so it's one of the split bathrooms where you got your vanity on one side door shower
08:23and toilet yes all right and obviously it's pretty tight in here okay it'd be nice if it was a little
08:29bit more opened up that would be great and as far as a shower this doesn't look very accessible for you
08:36it isn't it's it's tough this feels very low like you'd have to duck and step over at the same time
08:43yeah yeah are you thinking maybe a walk-in shower here that would be ideal really and hardware we could
08:49do brass gold no no no black maybe okay but no yellow tones okay black black is okay you like black
09:00color it happens to be my favorite color so okay all right this is the main bedroom are you wanting
09:08the full overhaul more just like some tlc and then you're thinking a door on your closet is that something
09:15you would like to see so it'd be nice not to stare at the stuff in your closet for sure we can do that
09:19we know you can all right no doubt the layout of this house was really popular for the time that it
09:25was built it's a split level home we can't necessarily change the split levelness of it
09:31but i feel like we can open it up and make it function better for them you don't have to worry
09:36anymore i'm trying not to cry no because this is for him and like this is amazing like i'm
09:45don't try not to be a big dope and cry no that's so sweet she loves me so much yeah and it's not just
09:53the bad knee i have a bad heart that's that's a big deal can't wait to hopefully give you
09:57everything that you're wanting in this space i have no doubt tim and angela you can definitely
10:02tell like they're in love they love each other it reminds me of you and i oh because you know i love

10:10hey coleman's house safety's all yours our final scope of work is done for tim and angela's and it
10:24is approved we need these spaces to function for tim he's our priority all right oh they're all moved
10:31out here she is folks it's gonna be a sweet transformation they're using their coat closet as
10:37a pantry so i want to restore this back to an actual closet we'd rather give them more storage
10:43in their kitchen so they don't have to have it out here tim uses a walker to get around and he really
10:49hates all the transitions between the flooring are hard for him and so all the floorings didn't come up
10:55the more open the better yeah which leads me to this wall here yeah i would love for this to open up
11:03even if we open up the two openings more so just field open i'd be okay with that for sure
11:09we're doing a fireplace and they like to display a lot of things he had like his dad's military flag
11:16so i just want to make sure we're giving them some built-in storage so they can display all the
11:19things that they really love to look at and then i want to do lvp throughout fresh paint and then recess
11:25lighting kitchen and dining i think most important is that we get a big island in here and rework the
11:32kitchen layout i just want to kind of incorporate it all into one room i want to do a dark vibe i want
11:39to do deep green lower cabinets i think it's going to bring a lot of richness in here wood uppers with
11:46an adult backsplash for angela i'm not feeling sick no all right bathroom i have to blow all this out
11:54well yeah so i think we make it feel like a little bit more like one room instead of the door in the
12:00center yeah they want to walk in shower so he doesn't have to step in i really want the bathroom to feel
12:07warm and a little rustic deep wood tones on the vanity i want to do a really classic black and white tile
12:14on the floor and then i'm picturing a deep deep green tile this green is going to provide that
12:21warm cozy feeling that space their bedroom is more of like cosmetic upgrades in here new flooring
12:29paint we're going to do a feature wall on this wall something with a stained wood look a slat wall
12:35would be perfect other than that that's it you guys so have at it
12:39the real challenge is that somehow we need to make this house more open than it is it's so light
12:48it looks like a lot of our projects usually beauty outweighs functionality but this one i think
12:52functionality is definitely going to outweigh beauty it's going to be both so it's like the best of both
12:58world
13:05flooring is coming out all the carpet in the living room is gone the stone in the entry is going to
13:12come up soon i'm so excited to give him one smooth surface for him to get around his house safely and
13:19smoothly we would love to remove the sofa in the kitchen that way we can run the cabinets all the
13:25way to the ceiling and have more cabinet space an ideal demo day for me is you walk in and you just
13:33know that it can all leave that way your eyes just light up and you just say i get to destroy it all
13:40your brain is so weird i've never thought that in my life like oh i'm gonna destroy it all
13:48there's something in there scary and it comes out during the demo
13:55i found a something turns out the soffit was holding something here it does look like it might
14:01be a drain just have to get the plumber here and get it moved out of there pull the rest of it out and
14:06see kind of where it goes and like utility rooms right below us i'm yeah almost like kind of go down
14:12the wall yep well now i kind of got to be careful in here there could have been water everywhere yeah just
14:21don't break it you never know what's in it
14:38all right so i'm getting ready for the day i've just been really stressed about
14:43him and angela's and the wall going from the kitchen to the living room and we don't take that
14:51out i don't feel like we're doing enough i literally am freaking out i know i gotta talk
14:57you through while you're freaking out oh okay see i literally was hoping i was gonna come here and i
15:04was gonna be like okay no i was just overreacting and i'm not we haven't solved their issue he literally
15:11said she sits out here he makes her popcorn they can't communicate right i just feel like their
15:15lives would be a lot easier if it was just opened up completely this freaking wall it has to come down
15:21let me just text dan ask if he can come out here i think he's gonna have to have an engineer look at
15:26this yeah and i think that's worth it for sure oh i got a text is it dan it is dan she said we'll
15:32definitely need to have an engineer come take a look i guess we'll just have to see what it's gonna cost
15:37okay i literally am not gonna sleep until you know the answer to this and if it's too much i'll

16:15construction bros growing it up did the engineer come yeah i talked to him earlier and there's hvac
16:23vents in here there's electrical the thermostat lines in this wall also so all that stuff has to move
16:29probably be about four grand four grand i feel like that's so doable we were gonna do cabinets
16:35along that wall anyways yeah and i feel like i can mess around with some other stuff and come up with
16:40four grand easy peasy all right we can pull it all out and just get going so that can come out like
16:44today yeah i can come out today that'd be pretty quick when it comes to work i am good about being
16:50good about budget but at work at home mama likes bougie things i can't wait to see this open thank you
17:12i didn't even realize how many levels there really were in this house the laundry's all the way on the
17:19lowest lowest level what are you doing down here their laundry room is all the way down there listen
17:26to how out of shape i am i just went up and down the stairs and i am out of breath for real i'm just
17:32trying to imagine tim has really hard time with his knee carrying loads of laundry up and down three
17:38flights of stairs i wonder if we could relocate their washer and dryer i don't know where but maybe we
17:44can look are the original plans yeah the plans are up here hey grab them please i don't even like
17:49doing laundry when it's directly in front of my face if i was walking down three flights of stairs
17:55and i couldn't see it at all times i would never do it okay i think it needs to be somewhere close
18:00to the main bedroom their bathroom there's this random bump in here this is like the perfect opening
18:08i feel like we could put a stackable right here if this is going to happen we got to get started now

18:35weird and it's a new territory for us you know with our store and having employees i feel like
18:41our life always feels like it's in a state of almost boiling over it's like we put the wooden spoon
18:48on the pot just to contain it from boiling over but right now i feel like there's no wooden spoon
18:53and about to pop off sometimes i just feel like my mind's jumbled maybe it's time to find like an extra
18:59hand i've been thinking about that and i literally have even put out job listings and then i'll go over
19:05resumes and i'm like never mind i have it under control i'm always wanting to grow our businesses
19:12and my mind is always thinking about that and then there's times when i'm like feeling guilty like
19:17maybe we should have just kept things simpler and i should just be home with my family more i'm always
19:24struggling with that but i feel like if we want to keep growing our business i want more people
19:29on board i have someone in mind that i'm thinking will be good for this she is a designer i think
19:37it's mandatory at this point it's kind of scary like bringing more people on board you know i know
19:42but honestly that would be taking weight off your shoulders growing like this is exciting it is
19:48you need to answer your phone dan keeps calling he's obviously worried about something
20:00hi dan hey cole how's it going oh great i see you uh been trying to call me sorry so we're kind
20:08of in a pickle the delivery company that's trying to drop off that flooring keeps trying to drop it
20:13off there but the driveway is too steep for them to back their truck in there oh so it sounds like
20:19they're gonna have to drop it off at my shop but we are out of town do you think you're capable of
20:23driving this forklift i'd really not gonna be able to get here to do it i sure can i am certified to
20:30drive a forklift i'm pretty damn good on a forklift i'll be honest huh nobody was available to get the
20:38pouring delivery i ran to dan's shop and unloaded the pouring oh these are gonna be perfect left it
20:46there dan had to pick it up then they had to bring it out to the house it was a whole ordeal
21:02i just left a meeting for the store came and got these two from school
21:08and now i need to run find hardware for tim and angela's i feel like i could use an extra set of hands
21:15guys are you gonna be good yeah hi darling that way hi this is a replica of the box for tim's dad's
21:27flag i know how important tim's father's flag is to him and i wanted to take the flag box that he
21:35currently has and just kind of elevate it and make it a little more special for him what i was thinking
21:41was i want this flag to be like integrated into the shell i love that so the middle of this will
21:46be notched out and it will like slide over this flag so this is going to be in the middle i love
21:51that you can help me put in some biscuits was and i'm not talking about biscuits in the oven
21:57biscuits and gravy sounds so good right now we're gonna put these two together see how the flags
22:04stick out of there okay biscuit time let's biscuit so say you might or two edges and you want them to
22:11come together look seamless you'll cut a notch you put in the biscuit so this is the biscuit that's the
22:19biscuit and then put the other piece together that way it's nice and tight and secured but looks very
22:24seamless on the edge this will sit down on there like that and it's just kind of built into the shelf
22:30i like that yeah yes i'm craving biscuits and gravy and i'm hungry after this
22:39the tile is going in tim and angela's bathroom it's looking so good already we're going to do
22:45this smaller black and white tile on the floor i just want to do something that was classic but a
22:51little bit different just like tim and angela
22:53i am at tim and angela's house i am plugging in all these slats for the slat wall i got a few more
23:02boxes left i got to get them installed because they're going to paint the bedroom here soon it's
23:07not a real wood so it's actually going to stay very straight hey what's up what are you up to just
23:16working on a little slap wall at one of our projects nice brock is my older brother colleen
23:22is his wife they live in california they're cool so colleen and her mom and i have been talking about
23:28where we could get away to in the summer and we've kind of decided that south dakota is somewhere we
23:35want to look for possibly buying some land oh dang that would be amazing there's a lot we feel like
23:42we're missing being closer to the kids and you guys and we need to enlist your help trying to find
23:47some land i'll definitely start looking around my brother all right well great i'll talk to you later

24:26green tiles to find the perfect one to go with this black and white flooring i love that until i found

24:41this room because we're painting this room green green's amazing color trenches whole room cool
24:51we just wanted to show you around our little paradise here there's tim it's not huge but it
24:58served the trick for us look forward to getting back home and seeing what all he's done don't let us

25:38day-to-day having you and just being able to like trust another person without worrying feels so
25:44unbelievably nice you have no idea i'm happy to be here and i want to do whatever it takes
25:49to take you guys wherever the next level and beyond and now i have someone who i can ask opinions on
25:56design yes and not me that's the best part you may go forward i have been replaced
26:05babe we said the reason we need help is so that we can divide and conquer yeah that's great

26:23hello hi i'm going to a local store that has all kinds of tile we are on the hunt for an adult
26:32backsplash i'm gonna set up a little station for us over here and make the little story to build around
26:37let's lay everything out she had in her house before it looked like almost a wallpaper yeah she
26:44wants something hearty a real tile tile backsplash that won't peel off yeah this is not it no like
26:53immediately i was like no like i like the warmth of this mm-hmm so no color we already have our color
26:59represented with the green cabinet what do you think about that this is like so subtle let's put it
27:05together this is nice elegant i feel like it completes the kitchen story for sure you know
27:12what i like to call a little wood on wood action a cowboy tuxedo come on it's like a jean on jean
27:18come on but it's a wood on wood
27:27this box is way heavier than i thought it was going to be oh here it's the backsplash oh yeah is that not
27:33heavier than you would think i mean sure okay yeah angela's finally getting her adult backsplash but
27:40we need to talk about this vent hood i'm thinking whatever we do is in the same material as the
27:45cabinet like wood like that this is our vent hood you could do like a chevron but i'm not living laughing
27:51for that one thing i'm loving is like that checkerboard pattern obviously oh yeah what if we did not
27:59checkerboard necessarily but just like a grid pattern imagine my coat okay that's nice do you love

28:19all right i'm excited to see this bathroom a little scared wait whoa baby looks so good
28:26it's turned out perfect it's all part of the color story in the house like we have that really
28:30really deep green on the lowers in the kitchen but also look here's our new cutout for the washer and
28:37dryer literally the perfect spot literally meant to be i cannot believe there was a door here at one
28:42point this is now the only flooring transition in the whole house is right here and it's very flat
28:48and safe which is perfect because tim just sent us this video look at colin chelsea i just wanted to
28:54give you an update found out that my knee is infected again so i'm looking at two more surgeries
29:00what the first one coming up in the next couple weeks whoa so this just makes our home remodel
29:06even more important so do a good job thank you okay gosh that added way more pressure oh that just
29:14makes my heart hurt because i'm sure like if you had surgery wouldn't you want to be in your home
29:18recovering uh yeah i'd like to be in the comfort of my home i just want to get them in here as soon as
29:23possible so they can get back in their house we'll do our best

29:42hey guys i just got out to the stepping house and had some bad news hvac system wasn't keeping up we had
29:48it set at 68 and it was never getting above 61 so i made a phone call out to hvac tech when they came
29:55out and actually condemned the furnace oh no turns out to be a carbon monoxide leak the heat exchanger
30:02isn't working it's got a crack in it and it's an unsafe environment so we're gonna shut down the job
30:07site until further notice and hopefully we can get somebody to get this taken care of quick wow we have to
30:14shut down the project like we can't go there yeah the other problem with this is that it is winter
30:20here in south dakota yeah and you cannot leave a house unheated for too long because then pipes
30:25start freezing and then you have further issues how long is this going to put us back you think i don't
30:30know i don't know what to do hey guys i finally got back off to the job site after making some calls
30:41today we got uh some local vendors that were willing to donate materials so they're gonna supply all
30:48the furnace ac humidifier parts for this house we're gonna try and replace everything we can here and
30:56make it new again for them it was really cool to see all the people around sioux falls willing to help
31:02when they heard of veterans in need it's around the holidays and thankfully it only took a couple
31:07days so no pipes froze it's like in the grinch when the grinch's heart grows two sizes i swear dan's
31:14heart grew yeah no there is zero ambient carbon dioxide in the house it's a new furnace
31:29look at it outside the weather's changing it's freezing and we're getting some snow we got our
31:36fireplace around here before tim and angela just had a very ornate white kind of small
31:44fireplace and so we are bringing this guy in it's way bigger a little more modern but still
31:52getting that rustic feel that we have kind of going throughout so i'm really excited to see this
31:56what do you have over there the island for tim and angela's house i'm feeling really good about
32:14all the money saving choices i've made to justify taking out that wall first i saved money by not
32:20having custom cabinets on that wall we took out and then i bought a furniture piece for
32:26tim and angela's island i did save on the budget like then you didn't have to have a custom island
32:31built well that's just great what just a huge hole in this box no there's two of them
32:40yeah this just got dropped off today it wasn't even here
32:42this is the island top yes and look there's a huge out of the wood no that's not even fixable we're
32:54on such a time crunch it's not even funny oh my god i feel awful i think about him all the time and
32:59how badly i want to get him back into his house and just having these setbacks continuing to happen
33:06it just it's starting to scare me we'll just have to get on the phone right away they're
33:11gonna have to rush this one because this is unacceptable unacceptable i thought i'd show you guys
33:21the new and improved coat closet it is no longer a pantry folks we're gonna have storage for coats
33:31anything they want besides food
33:44i am up and at them this morning we have a special delivery going to tim and angela's house so we
33:51reached out to the company that made the island and i explained the situation and i told them we
33:57need to get this top immediately like overnight shipping situation there it is i don't know if

35:03it's going to go in here it's emotional this is tim's father's flag i can relate like with my grandpa's
35:10flag it it means so much to you this is a piece of them i really hope he just enjoys what i created

35:23angela explained that this was their dream but all she worried about was tim being home alone and
35:29all those transitions and something happening to him tim should have no problem getting around
35:35i can't believe it's tomorrow and his it seems like it's been oh that date's so far away in the
35:40calendar and now it's tomorrow

37:21i'm so glad we got this wall down yes i don't even feel like i'm cool enough to live in this house

37:43hidden away you're not tripping over no no look at this i can go in the kitchen we really wanted to
37:49remove the transition that you guys had in the entry before so just same flooring throughout just to keep
37:55it smooth and easy going the fireplace is perfect and we know how important it is for you guys to have
38:03spaces to display like collectibles and so we wanted to make sure we had some shelving in here
38:08yeah and i know you had your followers flag on display so i wanted to just kind of take it a
38:12step further and i created a shelf with the flag inside of it thank you that is beautiful that really is
38:19gorgeous yeah you can head into your kitchen yes those cabinets are beautiful they're gorgeous plenty
38:29of room for any and everything i love these counters
38:36the backsplash i love it it has character it is character you know i didn't want to do anything
38:43overpowering i want to do something warm something that really complemented the rest of the spaces it's
38:49classic this is going to be perfect forever i wanted to find ways to like save a little money
38:55here and there so that we could put that towards opening the wall and one of those things was doing
39:01a furniture piece as your island instead of like some custom cabinetry we were able to find this really
39:06beautiful furniture piece i think it adds so much character it fits so well yeah blown away
39:11totally blown away well there is more to see so if you guys are ready we can head on up to here

39:27oh my gosh you're beautiful i love how open it is i love the floor yes that is beautiful him your new
39:35friend oh it was like the perfect fit yeah right in that space yeah having this up here hopefully

39:51there tim that's beautiful you can fit under that shower head yeah you can get all the way under there
39:58and most important is that you're not having to step over a huge right bathtub to get in there yes

40:22wow this is incredible wow the doors and the color it's so cozy i think it just creates more of a vibe
40:32you know when you're like fully enclosed in the color our space yes absolutely with the barn doors
40:40i just felt like you don't have to worry about like pulling a door out you can just slide it over
40:45this is beautiful this is amazing before we go i'm gonna grab someone who did something really
40:51incredible throughout this so it is fixed now but last week we found out that your furnace had to be
40:56replaced so dan was the one hey dan he was the one that really spearheaded the uh issue with the
41:02furnace and made a lot of things happen as soon as i called the people that supplied the furnace and
41:07everything and told them you're a veteran first thing he said out of his mouth was i'll supply
41:12everything for free and so yeah it was really awesome i typically in this position get to make the
41:17phone calls that are not good right yeah like we started with that phone call and to be able to end
41:22on this is a very good thing so thank you so much thank you absolutely appreciate you guys yeah we
41:27appreciate you we really wanted their home to be perfect for them seeing tim and angela have such a
41:33emotional response to their home it just makes all of the work we put into it all the nights
41:39thinking about every detail worth it i love you i love you with all the things we have going on
41:46right now and how busy you are bringing on mary was such the right move and i'm just
41:51so excited about projects moving forward i want to continue growing sky's the limit
