00:00Speaking a short time ago, the Israeli Prime Minister said his country had achieved a historic victory
00:06and would thwart any attempts by Iran to rebuild its nuclear programme.
00:11Well, for the very latest, let's cross live now to Israel.
00:14We can speak with Noga Tarnopolsky. She's our correspondent in Jerusalem.
00:19Noga, remarks made by Benjamin Netanyahu about an hour ago or so,
00:24he said he thwart any attempts by Iran to try to rebuild its nuclear programme.
00:29What else did he have to say?
00:33Well, he thanked President Trump profusely, ignoring the insults that the president had hurled his way earlier today.
00:42He once again described Trump as the best friend Israel has ever had.
00:47And as you said, he did emphasise to Israelis that if any Iranian should ever attempt again to rebuild Iran's nuclear programme,
01:01that Israel will act with equal force.
01:03This is, I think, a notable comment made at about the same time that both CNN and the New York Times reported that U.S. intelligence,
01:14in a preliminary investigation, has found that, in fact, the U.S. strikes did not destroy Iran's nuclear capacities at all,
01:24and probably set the programme back by just a few months.
01:27So, in fact, Prime Minister Netanyahu's speech may have been something of a pre-emptive effort to push away critique that may come his way from Israelis in the coming days.
01:40Yeah, and we saw, Nogh, at the White House afterwards, shortly after that, that news from CNN,
01:45it said that this alleged assessment was flat out wrong, according to Washington.
01:50We saw there Netanyahu claiming victory.
01:53All sides appear to be claiming victory.
01:55What actually has been achieved by Israel?
01:57We don't know yet.
02:02I mean, Israel clearly proved that its military prowess, without question, and Israel harmed, Israel and the United States harmed Iran's efforts to advance its nuclear programme,
02:16appear to have significantly harmed Iran's ballistic missile programmes, both the missiles themselves and launchers.
02:25This is something Iran can rebuild.
02:28And they took out in assassination, certainly in the first few days of this war, a significant chunk of Iran's top brass,
02:36both the military and those involved in the nuclear project.
02:41But long term, we do not yet know, and it really is impossible to say at this point.
02:48But there is a sense, I certainly had the sense, that Prime Minister Netanyahu was speaking not just to Israelis,
02:54but also to Donald Trump.
02:57And Trump's anger today did indicate that he's angry at journalists who are questioning whether the nuclear programme was obliterated or not.
03:06And he may have been angry at Netanyahu for promising him that he would be the one to get credit for obliterating this programme.
03:16Nogo, we'll leave it there for now.
03:17Thanks so much for joining us.
03:18Nogo Tarnopolsky, our correspondent in Jerusalem.
