00:00Here's Dave Roberts on Otani's performance on the mound last night.
00:04I thought it was great.
00:06Obviously, you know, we gave up a run, but I thought the stuff was really good.
00:12Much better as far as the fastball velocity than I think anyone anticipated.
00:16Hit 100.
00:18You know, I was thinking 95 to 97.
00:21But I think that just a competitor adrenaline came out in him.
00:25And, yeah, they built an inning.
00:28I thought he made some really competitive pitches.
00:31But overall, just a really positive day for us.
00:35And, you know, today, I don't think it affected his offense.
00:39And like I said before the game, tomorrow we'll be telling to see how it feels as far as fatigue.
00:45But I thought overall pretty exciting.
00:49You know, I think he's young enough that when they rebuild these elbows,
00:54they're like, you know, $6 million man.
00:58Steve Austin here because I think pitchers get better after they have their elbows fixed, believe it or not.
01:07And I think he's young enough that he's going to throw gas eventually.
01:12No matter how many innings they give him, how many pitches they give him, he's going to bring it.
01:16And I think he's going to be fine.
01:17And then, at some level, when you get older, it won't – I don't think it'll carry over.
01:25And I don't think he'll be effective when he's old.
01:27I think he'll be a hitter.
01:30You know, I don't think it's that hard to see.
01:33We know what happened.
01:34His elbow fried, he was still a great hitter, right?
01:36And then now he's pitching again.
01:38He's doing both.
01:39At some point, you're going to get to the age where they just aren't going to let you do both.
01:43Same thing with this kid Hunter in the NFL.
01:45I don't believe for one minute he's playing his whole career both ways.
01:48It's just impossible in the National Football League because of the speed of the game and the violence of the game.
01:54I don't believe a guy can do that every day, every week, year in and year out, and make it last.
02:03With time and age, I think it dissipates.
02:06And I think that's what will happen with Otani.
02:08I think he'll pitch for a couple years where he's going to be dominant as a pitcher.
02:13And then eventually, I don't think he'll pitch.
02:15I think he'll just be a hitter.
02:17I don't think he's just going to be Nolan Ryan.
02:20I don't believe that.
02:21I think he's a hitter first, and he's a great pitcher, but he blew his arm out.
02:27So now he's had it rebuilt.
02:28And at some point, age will catch up with his arm.
