00:00The Pittsburgh Steelers made a big signing on Monday night extending a key defender only his
00:05name wasn't TJ Watt and while the move makes a ton of sense it could have made the Steelers life
00:10that much harder in the interim. Deshaun Elliott signed a two-year contract extension with the
00:18Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night and in the micro it is a great deal for both parties. I mean
00:24Deshaun Elliott was a revival in the Steelers secondary last year. We're talking about a player
00:29that instantly brought back that physicality, that tenacity, that aggressiveness that we had seen
00:35with players like Ryan Clark, Troy Polamalu and so many other safeties to don the black and gold.
00:41But the big issue here is if you're TJ Watt you're looking around and you're seeing everybody get
00:47paid besides you. You watch this team trade for and then sign DK Metcalf to a contract that paid him
00:54atop the wide receiver market. You saw the team hold up their entire free agency process
00:59for Aaron Rodgers who just signed last week. You now see another defender sign a contract extension
01:05before yourself. At some point you got to look around and you got to wonder why am I being treated
01:10like chopped liver like I'm the red-headed stepchild when I'm the best player on the team. I'm the one
01:15who makes the team go. Without me the team is 1-10. Without me the team stands no shot of making the
01:21playoffs much less winning a playoff game. And I understand that he's asking for a lot heading into
01:26his age 31 season given the fact that he wants probably more than Myles Garrett. Given the fact
01:32that he finished last season recording no sacks down the last month of the season and absolutely
01:38putting up a dud against the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs. I understand all that but it doesn't
01:42matter. Like I said all TJ Watt has to do in these contract negotiations is go in there put the Steelers
01:48record on the table when he doesn't play. Look at Omar Khan and whoever else in the eye and say
01:53you guys know as well as I do that you don't win football games without me. And that's all he has
01:57to do. And quite frankly maybe that's all that he is doing and that's why the Steelers haven't come
02:02to terms with Watt on a future extension. So for this deal for Deshaun Elliott it is a great move.
02:08We're talking about an instinctual player of safety that is coming off his best year in the NFL in terms
02:14of tackles tying his career best in interceptions. He just fits the Steeler way. He is everything that
02:21embodies a Pittsburgh Steelers defender. But if you're TJ Watt you have to look around and start wondering
02:26why everyone else is getting preferential treatment while me the best player continues to wait on a new deal.
