Rob Gregson reacts to the Pittsburgh Steelers finally signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers!
Transcript
00:00The wait is finally over. Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are together at last.
00:05The question now is, was it a smart idea?
00:10This is a move that has been coming for months. Whenever the Pittsburgh Steelers found out that
00:15Justin Fields would not be returning and that he would sign with the New York Jets,
00:18they didn't just pivot. They went all in on signing Aaron Rodgers to a contract,
00:23and now they have completed their mission. And a lot of people, they're going to say,
00:27that's a bad idea. I mean, we saw Terry Bradshaw come out and explain how he believes Rodgers is
00:32done and that he should retire and go chew on bark of all things. But the truth is the Pittsburgh
00:37Steelers, they didn't just want Aaron Rodgers. They needed Aaron Rodgers. A lot of people,
00:42they're going to push back. Go watch his game against the Jacksonville Jaguars down the stretch
00:47of the 2024 season. You will see a quarterback that still has all the tools that you need to
00:53be successful. A live arm, the ability to maneuver the pocket, one of the best processors and the
00:58most cerebral players at the position. Aaron Rodgers still possesses all of that. And I'm sorry,
01:03as much as some might like Mason Rudolph, and I do, he's no Aaron Rodgers. We certainly don't know
01:08and don't think that Will Howard or Skyler Thompson would be Aaron Rodgers for the Pittsburgh
01:13series. So this was a no brainer. Given where the team is right now, this iteration of the Pittsburgh
01:18series with TJ Watt and his age and Cam Hayward and Mika Fitzpatrick and the fact that you just
01:23traded and signed DK Metcalf to a massive extension with an offensive line that they believe is the
01:30best version of the line that they've had in years. A rookie running back who's more than capable of
01:36starting. This version of the team, they needed a starting quarterback in order to reach their goals
01:41and to hoist a seventh Lombardi. And that's exactly what Aaron Rodgers is. Don't confuse him with the
01:46Aaron Rodgers that beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl or the Aaron Rodgers that won
01:51back-to-back MVPs a few years ago. But he is still a top 10 to 15 player in this league. And with the
01:58roster that the Steelers have, they believe that's all that they need. So for the Steelers, this wasn't
02:04just them going out on a whim. They still believe he's one of the best. He believes he's one of the
02:09best. And now the Steelers have their starting quarterback for what they hope to be their seventh
02:14Super Bowl winning season.
