00:00Joining us here on set, our international affairs editor for more, Angela Diffley.
00:04Angela, tell us more about the reaction around the world to these events.
00:09What is behind their words?
00:12Yeah, I just want to pick up on something there that Richard Dalton said,
00:16particularly at the end there, you know, the Israelis would cite the IAEA report yesterday,
00:24which said that Iran was not cooperating.
00:28It is a fact, apparently, that they have gone well beyond what would be needed for a civilian nuclear programme,
00:37and that is something that is worrying the Israelis.
00:40And that, if you like, came at a timely moment because the Israelis have long, it seems, had the intention to do something about it.
00:47The fact that that report came out yesterday certainly gave them useful, I would say, something like evidence.
00:54So, Richard Dalton takes a very different stand on that.
00:58In terms of reaction, if you look at Europe, because he talked about that, it is interesting.
01:06Back in October, when there was this exchange between Iran and Israel,
01:13the Europeans, Israel's allies, came firmly to Israel's aid, helped with their air defence,
01:19and that was under Joe Biden, it is noticeable that they are not informed at this time,
01:28and that they are very unsure about the whole operation.
01:33Both Germany, particularly France, and Britain have all called for a de-escalation.
01:39It is a very different situation now.
01:42Now, that said, you know, Netanyahu will not care greatly what either Macron or David Lammy in Britain say.
01:52To move on to the US, Donald Trump's just been on True Social saying,
01:56I told them to make a deal, now some of them are dead, and more along the same lines.
02:03You know, Donald Trump did make clear he wanted to give diplomacy another chance.
02:08We know he had that phone call with Netanyahu. Netanyahu more or less told him,
02:12you know, we're planning to go ahead with this, and then it appears informed him just before they did go ahead.
02:17You know, Trump wanted diplomacy, he says, to be given another chance.
02:22He is not, by instinct, someone who is particularly war-hungry.
02:27He is much more of a deal's guy, as he says himself.
02:32Rubio came out immediately and said the United States was not involved in this,
02:35do not even think about retaliating against US interests.
02:39It's obvious that if Iran did, they would probably come off worse.
02:43So the United States distanced themselves from this actual act.
02:47But very clearly, Donald Trump said beforehand,
02:50we cannot allow Iran to have nuclear weapons.
02:54And he made that absolutely clear.
02:56In terms of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Turkey, they've come out, condemned this,
03:00said it's in violation of international law, as we were just hearing there.
03:03But it shouldn't be ignored, the fact that some countries in the region
03:08will be quietly pleased to see Iran's nuclear capacity severely diminished.
03:15You know, there is what people are saying and what they think behind the scenes.
03:19That said, Saudi Arabia, oil markets in turbulence now,
03:23this whole region looking so dangerous, nobody can be very pleased by this.
03:27Here we go.
03:38That's the question.
03:38This is not how over there.
03:40You've got to take it as iraness.
03:42You know, that was.
03:44So, you know, there are a lot of different reasons.
03:46You know,
03:48this is not the issue.
03:49You know,
03:52They're the ones.
