00:05Lebanon in what's the heaviest eruption of violence since its ceasefire with Hezbollah

00:09began nearly four months ago.

00:12According to the Israeli army, it hit dozens of rocket launchers and a Hezbollah command

00:16centre and that the strikes are retaliation for Hezbollah's rocket fire towards Israel

00:21on Saturday, something the Iran-backed militant group denies, saying it was committed to the

00:27truce that ended over a year of conflict.

00:30The Lebanese government, though, already fears escalation.

00:34This could lead the country into a new war with disastrous consequences for Lebanon.

00:39The Lebanese military, which is investigating the incident, said it had dismantled three

00:43primitive rocket launchers on its southern soil and that it's attempting to regain control

00:48over Hezbollah on its border with Israel.

00:51Despite tensions heightening, the Israeli prime minister's foreign policy adviser says

00:56he expects Lebanon to uphold its end of the shaky truce.

01:00We expect Lebanon to take care of its part of the agreement.

01:07The idea for sure is we'll do whatever it takes to enforce the ceasefire and to make

01:12sure that our civilians can get back home safely and securely.

01:16The escalation has increased fears that the fragile ceasefire, broken by the US and France,

01:20would not hold, particularly as Israel restarted military operations in Gaza.

01:26UNIFIL, the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, has stated it's alarmed by the new cross-border

01:31violence, calling on all parties to uphold their commitments to avoid serious consequences

01:36in the region.
