00:01Two ceasefires during the nearly 21-month-long war in Gaza have failed to reach a permanent truce.
00:08Now U.S. President Donald Trump is making his own hard push to stop the conflict.
00:13On his Truth social media platform Tuesday, Trump said,
00:17Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60-day ceasefire,
00:21during which time we will work with all parties to end the war.
00:25I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this deal,
00:28because it will not get better. It will only get worse.
00:32Trump did not provide details on what the ceasefire would entail,
00:36and Israel has not confirmed its agreement.
00:39Historically, the main point of contention has been whether the war should end permanently.
00:45And indeed, Hamas suggested Wednesday that while it is open to a ceasefire, any deal must end the war.
00:51But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday
00:55he won't agree to anything that allows Hamas to survive.
00:59I'm telling you, there will be no Hamas. There will be no Hamas stan.
01:03We're not going back to that. It's over.
01:06We'll release all our hostages, and we will defeat Hamas.
01:10Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar also emphasized the importance of hostage releases in a deal,
01:16writing on X Wednesday that any such opportunity must not be missed.
01:21Fifty hostages remain in captivity, and Israel believes around 20 of them are still alive.
01:28Trump and Netanyahu are scheduled to meet at the White House next week,
01:32and the U.S. president has said he will be, quote,
01:35very firm about ending the war.
