00:00I get this screaming horrendous phone call from my daughter.
00:07Just screaming that I'm on a big shot.
00:10It looks like an assassination, an execution.
00:14This is in the middle of the yard and children were playing football and they all fell to the floor.
00:19That's right off the rector scale.
00:21You've got a killer on the loose that might strike again.
00:24Many parents are thinking, could this mean my child next?
00:27Who would open fire next to a children's playground in broad daylight?
00:33Now when we're talking about things like revenge, then it becomes a spiral of violence.
00:38It's kind of portrayed that this young black boy had done it and he's got shot.
00:41Headlines, which are so far from the facts, it's unbelievable.
00:45You have to harvest evidence as quickly as you can.
00:48If you miss something in the first few hours at the murder scene, you're never going to retrieve it again.
00:54How can forensics catch the killer?
00:57How can forensics catch the killer?
00:57What would you do?
01:02Give Scientistice toll?
01:10Come yes.
01:13Tell yourself.
01:14Come yes.
01:16Take a look.
01:17Believeforward.
01:19Take a look.
01:20пош WITH AN HALU
01:21Attention.
01:22You have to watch the killer.
01:23You are running, you are running, you are running, you are running.
01:27in north london emergency services raced to a children's play area following reports of rapid
01:36gunfire local residents heard gunshots had a look outside and saw the prone body of a young man
01:4622 year old imani alway muir has been shot close to his home and is in a critical condition
01:55imani unfortunately was in quite a bad way by which time his mother had arrived at the scene
02:02all my grandsons were there his brothers were there his dad was there and watched him try to
02:07save his life really really um stressful heartbreaking really traumatic for the family
02:15it's really important to try and limit who can see what's happening at that scene
02:19as imani's mum keitha and dad jason desperately watch paramedics try to save him police lock down the
02:27scene shaken witnesses describe the terrifying moment the gunman opened fire well it's fixed shade around
02:36the playground and children was in the playing football and they all fell to the floor so a lot
02:43more children could have been hurt as well i hate to think what it would have been like had it been
02:50school holidays there would have been utter carnage witnesses describe the shooter as looking angry
02:57and holding a black gun paramedics find imani has been shot four times causing catastrophic injuries
03:06there was a huge amount of blood loss all over the scene he died about 30 minutes later
03:13he lost so much blood he just couldn't be saved
03:18and all i remember is screaming at the hospital is he alive and she said no he's dead
03:26he was a jailed to the family to be honest very uh family orientated young man
03:35imani grew up in the area where he lived with mum keitha and his four younger sisters and brothers
03:43he adored his mum everything was his mum mum first more than anything yeah he loved his mother
03:50and i did see my daughter it's just um the pain and screams from her
03:56nobody knew anything because it was like what's what's happened you know this is in the middle of
04:04the yard in the children's playground
04:05with the motive not yet known police are concerned about what the gunman could do next
04:15you've got a killer on the loose that might strike again that's right off the richter scale
04:20you have to harvest evidence as quickly as you can if you miss something in the first few hours
04:28at the murder scene you're never going to retrieve it again
04:31we try and track where imani was stood and where he ended up collapsing and that can be done through
04:40blood pattern analysis he wasn't facing the shooter he appeared to have been shot
04:44whilst trying to get away this looks like a planned attack why was this young man targeted
04:51a young man shot in broad daylight that's rare
04:55first thing that goes through your mind is it a crime that's gone wrong is it a gangland shooting
05:05uh is it a domestic you've got to have a completely open mind
05:11it was just a shock to be honest i didn't think about there being a grudge
05:16everyone knew marnie from the area everyone loved marnie everyone and everyone had a funny story to tell
05:23about marnie they like to be in the park meet his friends play a bit of football to hang out
05:30in the park csis trace the shooters movements
05:35if we could find out where someone was stood that's really great for forensic opportunities
05:41because then we can almost try and recreate the scene
05:44also then helps with any cctv footage because potentially they might be able to work out where
05:50they might have escaped to in an incident like this we would probably get a ballistic scientist
05:55to be able to track exactly where the shots might have been fired from
06:00you could potentially see where bullets have landed and be able to determine a point of origin as to
06:08where they've been fired we have a whole variety of kit that's available so we can use lasers for that
06:13we can also use rods external scenes are more difficult because there's the potential for ricochet
06:18so when we're working back to look at trajectories it may not be a direct line
06:23it's a cul-de-sac in essence there's a children's play area and just adjacent to that is a caged
06:31football pitch with alleyways running both sides of it so it's quite a compact murder scene
06:38ballistics determines the shooter's position was the top of an alleyway running between the playground
06:45and bride street it's right by roman way which one side of it is pentonville prison
06:54there's obviously cctv from the prison walls and on the estate itself uh there may be doorbell cameras
07:05so they're all good places to look for video footage of what may have happened or even pick up
07:12some sound because as you know gunshots are not quiet
07:17officers go door to door and turn up an early lead
07:22a neighbor's video doorbell has captured audio of the chilling moment the gunman opened fire
07:29so what you can hear there are 14 rounds being fired off consecutively
07:39that would suggest is either a semi or a fully automatic weapon
07:43heart breaking and even now i can't really talk about kifa because that's very painful
07:51for the pain she's going through but that's what they've put us through
07:55you know
07:57that's an awful lot of firepower to use
08:01perpetrator just kept his finger on the trigger
08:04no shout for mercy it's just pure and utter execution there is no other way to describe it
08:11he wanted to make a statement and to demonstrate their power and their might
08:15imani was just a 22 year old young lad going about his own business
08:21so why have they picked on him
08:24it was just a shock to be honest everything was a shock
08:39in north london tributes build at the scene of 22 year old amani aloe muir's tragic murder
08:47mani was my first born grandchild we were very very close he was born special
08:57pizza went into um premature labor at 34 weeks
09:02there was this little tiny baby like you could hold him here
09:06and then then he just grew fatter and fatter
09:09by the time he was one he was a tonker
09:12then he was like six foot two and really skinny by the time of 22
09:18you know handsome young man
09:21it was cheeky a joy a big joy
09:25this is a bit of a conundrum
09:30it looks like an assassination an execution because that's what it is
09:34but there's no motive
09:36he was either running away or walking away from the attacker
09:40or actually the attacker was following him
09:42because all these injuries on were on the back of his body
09:45the police found it really difficult to be able to identify who the offenders were
09:49because he had nobody that didn't like him
09:51there was no body in his life that had a grudge against imani
09:56in search of answers detectives retrace imani's final movements
10:03imani was at my house on the friday
10:07he used to stay over quite a lot
10:09i've got a special needs daughter
10:11so imani used to come to the house
10:13playing cards and playing games
10:15he used to really enjoy that interaction
10:17he used to play tricks on me all the time
10:20to have me screaming and shouting at him
10:22it just fits the laughter
10:24just last words to me see you later nan
10:26you know
10:26shut it up the stairs
10:28from his grandma's imani travelled home
10:32stopping by the park to watch the football
10:34i don't think he was there two minutes before he was killed
10:41the next thing i get this screaming horrendous phone call from my daughter
10:46this wasn't just a random attack on somebody
10:53it was a targeted attack
10:55why did they want to target him
10:57at the park
11:00csis harvest the evidence
11:02the only traces left behind by the shooter
11:05are multiple bullets and casings
11:08you would collect them using plastic tweezers because what you don't want is metal to metal markings
11:15and then they're put into polypots to stop any movement from happening in transit
11:23because we want to keep them as they were
11:25in a shooting crime scene there's often very little evidence at that scene
11:32the shots have been fired from a distance away
11:34so there's probably not much potential trace evidence on your victim
11:39knowing what sort of weapon might have been used can be really important
11:44because if we can find the weapon we might be able to find the offender
11:47it looks like it's a 9 by 19 millimeter
11:52and you can see the markings s and b and that will tell you the name of the manufacturer
11:58on cartridge cases you may also be able to find fingerprints
12:01because obviously somebody has physically picked them up and put them into the weapon
12:05you have to start thinking like how an offender would
12:11so how a bullet's loaded into a magazine and a gun
12:14most of the time the bullets are loaded in by pushing the end of the of the bullet casing
12:20so the best area probably to swab for dna
12:23will be around this ridged area and the actual end of the bullet casing
12:27these areas are not possible to get fingerprints from
12:31you might get fingerprints from like the shaft here
12:33but again it's quite a small surface
12:35on a bullet casing this size i would tend to go for dna swabbing
12:39i hope that the shooter or whoever loaded the magazine
12:43is on the dna database
12:45testing reveals the shooter is forensically aware
12:50and probably wore gloves
12:51but experts are able to identify the make and model of the firearm
12:56it's a 9 millimeter glock 19 pistol
12:59commonly used by gangs
13:01we are seeing an increase in gun crime and we are seeing gang related incidents occurring
13:08in inner cities i think unfortunately we are going to see more incidents like this
13:14in the future you're thinking about particular groups that are involved in criminality
13:18that are trying to protect that territory
13:20they will use any means extreme violence is something that they need to do
13:25to demonstrate that nobody can't mess with them
13:28that's the message that they want to send
13:30the big thing for me is the signpost
13:33the motive
13:34and once you know what the signpost is
13:37you're on your way to
13:39getting some
13:40explanation for what's happened
13:43we'll be looking
13:45the lifestyle of marnie
13:47police cordon off of marnie's home
13:52looking for any possible connection to the shooter
13:54had to go through the whole house
13:57you know
13:58then they had to come to my house because he'd stayed at my house
14:01and they just would not let keitha enter the property at all
14:05to get anything keitha just ran out like with just a t-shirt and trousers
14:11and um the police said we're not allowed into the house
14:15obviously they need to search things because that's a protocol of what they do apparently
14:19and then it was just her baby that she screamed outside there
14:23that she won't because her baby
14:27police will do whatever they can to be as empathetic as possible in the circumstances
14:34and most sios
14:38speak to the family through the flo the family agent officer you're treading a very fine line
14:46you want to catch the perpetrators but you have to respect the wishes of the family
14:53police find nothing to lead them to a marnie's killer
14:57the police investigated because that's part of what their job is because otherwise if they
15:02don't do that when it comes to trial the defense can say the victim of this was a criminal
15:09i can say categorically imani wasn't a criminal at all he's certainly not a member of any gang
15:17obviously it's nothing to find because nothing to do with money because he was innocent amongst all this
15:28amani was part of a close-knit family
15:30that was his favorite time of all the family being together so we required a close family
15:37so we do everything together really he wanted us always have a party he loved all the new babies
15:44that came into the family all the pictures you always see marnie cradling a baby and then when
15:50he had his first little baby sister he was definitely the big brother and he would carry
15:55her everywhere and do everything with her he adored her very very protective
16:01amani aspired to work as a mentor to children with additional needs volunteering twice a week
16:07at a local youth center it's amazing the children he's just had a soft side of him he had asperger's
16:14and adhd and he was dyslexic so he did struggle when he was younger
16:20a boy's been proud of money because he's had just obstacles obviously over the years with his um
16:27trying to cope with his own disability but um yeah always proud of months
16:34in need of a forensic breakthrough csis examine the bullets and casings for unique markings
16:42i'm now going to look at the end of the magnifying glass the other things that you can find on cartridge
16:48cases and potentially on bullets are tool marks you can also get some markings on the outside of the
16:53cartridge case and striation marks on the bullet as well now striation marks have individual
16:58characteristics that means there's something really quite unique about the markings on it
17:02you may be able then to relate it back to a specific firearm you're looking for any marks or damage or
17:08anything unusual on the end of this bullet casing so you can see where the bullet's been fired you can
17:15also see that there's a little bit of damage that which may be replicated from the firing pin of the
17:21gun they can be uploaded onto the database which in the uk we use ibis which would potentially allow
17:29us to see if the perpetrator has used that weapon at any other instance in the last 10 or more years
17:36using 3d microscopy investigators photograph the bullets and casings and upload them to ibis
17:43to compare their unique marks against other known firearm incidents but the system draws a blank
17:52sometimes it's just irretrievable so you end up almost with a ghost gun that you can't ascertain
17:56where it's originated from it can be really frustrating in an investigation if you have a really
18:02important piece of evidence and it's not matched on the database you've got a killer on the loose that
18:07might strike again and you've got no way of identifying who that person is a section 60 order
18:14is put in place across the entirety of islington and camden granting police additional stop and search
18:21powers police are concerned that there might be repercussions in the area or there might be a further targeted attack
18:29having a section 60 will help the police in hopefully trying to identify if anyone has
18:36any weapons if we find a weapon and potentially find a gun we might be able to link that back to our
18:42deceased they would have put out extra patrols around the estate you know local officers speaking to
18:51members of the public to reassure them having lived in islington his whole life imani senseless death rocks
18:59the local community everyone was devastated everyone knew imani from the area yeah they had a lot of
19:07support he was part of a really close-knit community so it can be extremely traumatic not only for the
19:14family members but also for his friends and neighbors to see what's happened it hurts when a member of the
19:21community gets killed incidents like this send shock waves through every single household you've got
19:28many parents that are thinking could this mean my child next
19:31oh everyone was amazing and everybody just came forward as much information that they could give
19:39to the police when the police commence a homicide investigation they look at intelligence that they
19:47can glean from speaking to the local community because a lot of people will come forward people don't like
19:53people getting murdered on their doorsteps witnesses report seeing several men flee the scene
20:00including one on a motorbike but with no clues to why amani was targeted the team needs a forensic
20:08breakthrough at the park searches continue for the gun there's obviously that element of danger because
20:15if there's a potential firearm on scene it may need to be made safe we always look under vehicles in bushes
20:23on the ground you could also consider getting a police dog that specializes in searching for weapons
20:30they'll do a search of ways in and ways out in case someone's discarded a gun or they may have hidden it
20:37finding nothing at ground level they exhaust all avenues in search of a much needed lead
20:43they'll even look in guttering around because people have been known to throw stuff onto roofs
20:50drains are searched by police search teams searching a drain can be a particularly messy job because
20:56there's a lot of debris that falls down into a drain so finding an item in a drain can be covered in
21:01quite a lot of gunk which then can obviously be detrimental to any fingerprints or dn evidence
21:07that might be on that item if necessary that we've called the local council to suck up any water that
21:14might have been there and lo and behold they found a mobile phone this wasn't covered in dirt that tended to
21:23suggest that phones been placed there quite recently the question is is that phone linked to this
21:28incident this is another piece of the jug store
21:36we're quite interested to see if there's any fingerprints on this phone the powder that i'm
21:40going to use on this surface because it's smooth and shiny is aluminium powder aluminium powder is
21:46really fine it's the go-to powder of most csis
21:53okay and there's some very clear fingerprints on that surface right so we use some lifting tape to
22:00get the marks off here and then you just slowly rub the tape down onto the surface and then pull it off
22:07and then the fingerprint is actually on this tape digital experts also trace the phone's owner
22:23it's found to be registered to a local man 35 year old demetrius kiriaku
22:29a police database check reveals that just two hours before amani's murder
22:37a crime report was filed after a witness saw kiriyaku being violently robbed by masked men
22:47he had been robbed in carville street which isn't that far away from the scene the phones in the drain
22:53were the proceeds of that robbery it kind of makes you think that they may well be linked
23:01i learned something as a young detective and that is presume nothing check everything
23:07police head to kiriyaku's address he tells them the men also stole his rolex watch
23:13police asked if he knew the people that had done it and he said he didn't he refused to really assist
23:19the police with any sort of investigation and said he didn't want to know now that's suspicious in
23:26itself most norobind people want to know he becomes a person of interest
23:33the police
23:44police searching for the killer of aspiring youth worker amani aloe muir a profiling demetrius kiriaku
23:52after recovering his stolen phone inside a drain at the crime scene
23:58intelligence finds he has a history of supplying large amounts of cannabis
24:02and cocaine to drug dealers
24:08we're talking about inner city london and areas within london where you may see activity as it
24:13relates to drug dealing you may see some activity where individuals are in beef and conflict with
24:19each other over territory over pulse codes drug dealers get robbed by other people because they know
24:26they have access to cash and drugs and that's exactly what i think happened in this case
24:33clearly there's some sort of gangland feud here with the stolen phone the only remaining lead from the
24:40crime scene detectives need to determine if kiriaku is linked to amani's murder but as investigations begin
24:50the lack of any solid leads see some media draw their own conclusions
24:55it was put out there that a man in the morning was robbed of his rolex and kind of betrayed this young
25:05black boy had done it and he's got shot headlines which are so far from the facts it's unbelievable he's
25:11on his way home he doesn't want anything to do with it he's an upstanding young man and they've
25:17sullied his reputation in front of his family when they're trying to remember him in the best possible
25:22light it's unforgivable
25:23they were very upset about it it was kind of betrayed he deserves it because he shouldn't have
25:30robbed you know the watch he had nothing to do with anything the impact of sensational stories
25:39really just exacerbates this idea about race that when we have these conversations typical scenario
25:45young black male victim of gun violence it's very easy for people to point the finger and make the
25:53assumption that the young black male that was the victim was involved in things
25:58he didn't do the robbery because he was coming home from my end to north london and the police could
26:06track the whole of his um journey over and where he'd went that day because of cctv around the area
26:13it's always young black boys and their lives don't matter we kept trying to um get it changed
26:19uh money's got nothing to do with it but police are convinced kiriakus involved he's lied about having
26:25his rolex stolen to cover up that they took his drugs and his phone with the numbers of his buyers
26:31they can't really get to the root of the murder there's lots of circumstantial evidence
26:39pointing to him as a person of interest with kiriakou refusing to talk investigators look into his
26:46movements at the time of amani's murder digital forensics these days is one of the main lines of
26:53inquiry in any major incident you leave a footprint wherever you go once you have a mobile phone and
27:00have the cell site data you can map out their network but it's not overnight it will take maybe
27:07weeks it's no point just having data you need to be able to understand it and interpret it police also
27:16hunt down kiriakus attackers they were driving a black bmw it's really important for police to try
27:23and track that vehicle there may be vital forensic evidence inside that vehicle that will help with
27:29the police investigation using anpr and cctv police follow the car's movements after the robbery
27:37that car turned out to be stolen the car travels south towards the westbourne estate and parks up close
27:48to the murder scene now call me old-fashioned i don't believe in coincidences police treated that as
27:56secondary murder scene the vehicle is always taken away to a garage so that it can be examined
28:04in a clean dry environment this helps to preserve any evidence
28:12you check the boot of the vehicle the glove box any hiding places within that car
28:19the csis will be looking for any fingerprint and dna evidence you could also be looking for potential
28:24fiber evidence on the vehicle car seats the fact that the vehicle's been stolen means that there's a
28:31huge amount of evidence in that vehicle that may not be related to any incident at all there may be a
28:37lot of innocent persons fingerprints and dna and detritus within that car that's not relevant to any police
28:44investigation eight weeks on from his tragic murder 200 people come together to celebrate amani's life
29:03it was a beautiful send-off for amani a very sad send-off
29:06everyone came to the house and we had um marnie's body brought out outside the flat from the carriage
29:16and so everyone could be around and see him and touch him
29:23there were hundreds of people there from the local community from the local estate
29:29friends and family this had far-reaching consequence
29:37we all marched from there to the local church and had the service and then we went up to the cemetery
29:46knowing that he's never coming back it's like the final um terrible heartbreaking
29:53just miss him every day still talk to him like he's still coming home my blessed grandson
30:11determined to get justice for amani's family suspicions about demetrius kiriyaku's involvement
30:17are growing digital experts combing through his phone data have found that in the seconds after
30:23he was robbed he contacted several associates one of his cocaine suppliers james nicholson darren dredge
30:33a cannabis dealer matthew hardy a lower ranking foot soldier and nathaniel reese who has 35 prior drugs and
30:42burglary convictions over the next hour the men gather at kiriyaku's address on the six acres estate
30:52they all met up which is supported by digital communications from their mobile phones they're
30:58all cell-sided in the same area suspecting they're plotting something experts make a sinister discovery
31:07at 2 34 pm kiriyaku uses an app to locate his stolen phone he's turned on find my phone tracked his own phone
31:20using the app the men zero in on the play area on the westbourne estate
31:27now we have a possible motive the motive being
31:29revenge for a robbery revenge attacks are simple you hit me i hit you you disrespect me i disrespect
31:40you back we're talking about status here it's the fact that an individual feels that he's shamed
31:48they want to go back at the quickest moment to make individuals know that they can't be messed with
31:54and this can't happen again and then it becomes a spiral of violence having located his stolen phone
32:0115 minutes later the men are on the move
32:07hardy dredge and nicholson head towards the westbourne estate parking up near to where the stolen phone
32:14has been located reese and kiriyaku travel in the opposite direction towards stroud green
32:21police suspect it's here they picked up the gun from an associate
32:26minutes later phone data shows reese and kiriyaku are back on the road
32:32ampr shows them going into the westbourne estate cc tv footage supports that
32:40with dredge hardy and nicholson in position as lookouts amani enters the play area
32:45seconds later kiriyaku and reese park up on bride street as amani stops to watch the football
32:54the men see the black car that was used in the robbery see the black bmw put two and two together
33:02the scouts spot the men who committed the robbery in the play area on the war path kiriyaku and reese
33:08head down the alleyway they see amani and wrongly assume he's involved
33:22they shoot an innocent boy it was a young man in the wrong place the wrong time who had his life
33:29cruelly taken from him that was very difficult knowing marnie was sort of a mistaken identity
33:37and he was innocent and all this for nothing you know and his life mattered especially to us
33:46it was very rare to hear innocent people getting caught up in a crossfire as it relates to gangs
33:51but let's think about it in terms of proximity when those beef and conflicts spill out into the wider
33:57community that's when we start to see the ripple effect of violence and unfortunately the young man
34:04imani that was there at that particular time felt the brute force of the anger that came from those
34:10individuals absolutely devastating particularly someone so young it's an absolute travesty
34:19having somebody open fire where there's potentially high number of children around really does show
34:24something about the perpetrator in question their morals and their lack of care and compassion for
34:30others the five men are arrested on suspicion of murder the digital evidence putting them on
34:38the spot is pretty damning the suspects were in constant communication with each other prior to and
34:45post the offense occurring that is a conspiracy in as much that it was a common goal to commit that murder
34:52all deny having anything to do with imani's murder they claim they only met up to check kiriyaku
35:01was okay after being robbed before going out to deal drugs the team still needs evidence that
35:08proves beyond doubt that they arrived at the scene armed and intending to kill murder investigations
35:16go up to the day the prosecution ends you can still dig up evidence having so many offenders on a case like
35:23this is a huge amount of evidence there's a huge amount of cross-referencing between the offenders who did
35:29what when did they do it corroborating their stories any mobile phone downloads so having more than one
35:35offender a crime scene that's a big job police secure warrants to search the men's addresses at kiriyaku's
35:44several mobile phones are seized when digital forensics interpret one of the mobile phones they
35:50found an image in the photographs it's a huge piece of evidence and if you put it all together it's starting
35:58to show that he was the catalyst for all this motifs or a number of things can be monetary power
36:07territory and in this case it's revenge
36:21they found a photograph of what they believe to be the murder weapon
36:26he'd taken a photograph of it having a forensic scientist look at that photograph would help
36:31to identify if that was potentially the gun that was used the photograph does appear to be a semi-automatic
36:36nine millimeter caliber pistol and the cartridge retrieved from the incident was also a nine millimeter
36:42and has the right sort of firing pin mark the firearms expert actually said as did the pathologist
36:49having seen the gunshot wounds that is likely the type of gun that would have been used
36:54to shoot imani it must be quite frustrating in this investigation to never find the weapon
37:00and almost finding a photograph is second best you imagine that evidence in front of the jury it's very powerful
37:09kiriyaku insists the gun isn't his and wasn't used to kill imani
37:14but in an id parade witnesses from the scene identifying nathaniel reese as the angry man
37:22with the black gun this is an individual that has been living a particular lifestyle for many many years
37:30and would have built a particular reputation these behaviors of criminality violence would have
37:36desensitized him empathy and sympathy towards victims would have been something that would have been pushed to the side
37:43all five men are charged with murder
37:55and we've had a march to the old bailey and screaming out justice for imani because we wanted
38:04to make sure the perpetrators all got cool and would go away that was our aim and our fight for
38:10amani the trial was very long-winded i have to be there every day to know exactly what happened
38:23it was hard to face them some days you didn't want to look at them
38:27but you needed to see them and stare them in the eye and let them know your pain
38:30the prosecution sets out the evidence showing how amani's tragic death unfolded
38:42the echoing of the bullets around the courtroom
38:46i could hear teeth are like breathing and um try and hold back her tears and all that it's very
38:52difficult we were told that she has to move herself because she might sway the jury by being upset
38:59you weren't allowed to show any emotions so it made you very angry the men continue to claim they're not
39:08amani's killers but on the second day of the trial reese makes a dramatic u-turn pleading guilty to
39:17pulling the trigger i've only ever had one murderer plead guilty in my entire career and i've
39:26investigated loads of murders he was so disgusted knowing he shot an innocent young boy kiriakou's
39:36defense team insists he didn't know he was armed he claims the photo on his phone is of a firearm
39:43belonging to reese but the data shows it was taken three weeks before amani's murder when reese wasn't
39:52with him so to the jury you can prove that he's a liar that his account or his narrative can't be relied
39:59upon offenders are aware of dna and fingerprints you cannot live in this world now without leaving
40:07some kind of digital footprint kiriakou is also found guilty of amani's murder his motive for this
40:16is was revenge and hate little doubt about that at all in fact the judge alluded to that and he's
40:23summing up dredge hardy and nicholson are convicted of manslaughter ahead of sentencing keitha describes
40:33the catastrophic impact of losing amani the day you took amani you not only destroyed his life but that
40:40are four children my children lost their brother but also lost their mom a mom who was once filled
40:45with such happiness and joy and now to just see me crying sad lost and yearning for my son my little
40:52girl thinks it's a normal thing to do to be in a cemetery every day as she was only one when imani was
40:58murdered the pain we feel is unimaginable imani was the glue to our family and loved by so many
41:04we did not choose this path of darkness and sorrow where every cell in your body aches the fourth of
41:11july will haunt me for the rest of my life every time i close my eyes all i see is my son's lifeless
41:17body covered in blood the panic fear and pain my poor child must have gone through i know by the
41:24route he had run he was trying to make his way home to me until you've lost a child you'll never
41:31understand how hard and painful a child is to sit through and remain composed to see graphic photos
41:38of my son and hear of his final moments and expected to show no emotion when every day i was just
41:44screaming inside having to hear my son's name being called by so many people who had never even met him
41:50or knew him to them he was just another murder case just another job to attend imani is my baby
41:59i feel none of the eight defendants showed any remorse or compassion for imani myself or his family
42:05despite them knowing imani was not responsible for any part of the robbery that took place
42:10losing imani has affected me in so many ways as a woman a mother and a human being
42:17most days i barely recognize myself my son should be here imani love life so much
42:23i will never get to see my son have children a wife a career i feel as though i've been handed
42:30the life sentence not them imani will be forever missed loved and remembered and our hearts will
42:37be forever broken until we are back with our precious imani i love you my son
42:42following keith's powerful statement reese asks for no reduction to his sentence for pleading guilty
42:55i think he realized what an evil thing he had actually done they actually felt keith's pain
43:08reese and kiriaku are sentenced to 33 and 31 years for murder and supplying drugs
43:16dredge and hardy are found guilty of manslaughter for acting as scouts
43:20they're sentenced to 10 and seven and a half years
43:26nicholson is sentenced to 13 years for getting rid of the gun
43:41everyone loved money everyone you can see the people that come up to the cemetery on special occasions
43:48we all have our birthdays up there we always cup of cake with money so he's part of it and when a new
