At Tuesday's House Oversight Committee hearing, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) questioned Anne Wojcicki, Founder and Board Member of 23andMe, Inc.
Transcript
00:00The chair recognizes Ms. Green of Georgia for five minutes for questioning.
00:05Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
00:06Ms. Wojcicki, sorry, apologize.
00:10You co-founded 23andMe in 2006 and took the company public in 2021.
00:17Is that correct?
00:18That is correct.
00:19And this is all about DNA, which is what we would call science.
00:26Is that right?
00:26It was really about how individuals can learn about their own genetic information.
00:32But DNA and the study of it is science.
00:35Is that correct?
00:36It's about learning about their family, their ancestry, science, and their health risks.
00:40Okay, so it's science.
00:43Now, in 2001, you reposted Dr. Raven the Science Maven,
00:49who reposted my post of a sign that I kept outside of my office
00:54that said there are two genders, male and female, trust the science.
00:59And the attack on this, which you reposted, so you must have agreed with them,
01:04was as a scientist with a transgender parent, I need you to sit down.
01:08You don't know the science or the history.
01:10You trust the science.
01:12Science draws a difference between sex at birth and gender identity.
01:16The systematic incidentalization of gender is a product of colonization.
01:25What does colonization have to do with gender?
01:29I haven't seen that in a long time.
01:31I don't.
01:32You reposted it, though, so you must have known something about it.
01:35Also, 23andMe, the company that you led at the time,
01:41or that you're still there and you're trying to buy,
01:44opponents of trans rights use the phrase,
01:46trust the science to make false claims about sex and gender.
01:50We support what the science actually says,
01:52accepting and affirming trans people has a positive impact on their health.
01:57Trust the science.
01:58Support trans health.
01:59Which is really interesting because in DNA,
02:03it shows that there's only two sexes, two genders, male and female,
02:09and that should be something that you're very tied into that
02:14since you founded the company, co-founded the company,
02:18took it public, and you want to buy it again.
02:22So it's baffling that 23andMe, a company that specializes in DNA
02:28and people's very personal information
02:30and how God has designed human beings
02:34would support and continue to support the trans ideology
02:40that this is something that can be changed.
02:43Have you ever seen any DNA or know of DNA
02:46that a biological male can give birth to a baby?
02:51No.
02:51No.
02:52So this is something that we know cannot be changed.
02:55That's scientific.
02:57That's the design of our DNA.
03:01And I don't understand, and I think most people don't understand,
03:06why 23andMe would take such a hard-left political position
03:11supporting trans rights.
03:13And here's what's the really weird part about it is it says,
03:17this is one of the many reasons why we've been working to improve our products
03:20for trans and non-binary customers.
03:24I thought your product is helping people understand their DNA,
03:29linking themselves with family trees.
03:33So I can't comprehend what kind of product 23andMe
03:38could give to people who identify themselves in some other way.
03:44That doesn't make a lot of sense.
03:45Another thing that's hard to understand is, you know,
03:50the beauty of DNA is it's the beautiful design.
03:54It's God's design down to the finest detail,
03:58a granular level of how we're made,
04:01but it also helps people link with their family trees.
04:06Yet this was something, this is a letter that you put out
04:08after the SCOTUS ruling overturning Roe v. Wade,
04:14and you put out a letter very much against the ruling
04:18that the rights should go back to the states.
04:21And you clearly put your own personal belief in here
04:26on the 23andMe social media
04:29that you are very much for the killing of the unborn,
04:33the killing of babies,
04:34which completely would destroy what your company is all about.
04:40How can we study DNA?
04:41How can we study people's lineage
04:43if one of the very co-founders
04:46and who wants to own the company again
04:48supports the murder of the unborn,
04:51the murder of God's design,
04:53and the murder of God's creation,
04:56which we can link it to DNA.
04:59And Mr. Chairman, I'm running out of time,
05:02but I think that's 100% against the science,
05:05and I think it's 100% against God.
05:07I yield back.
