00:00Well, we have wildfire smoke creating really poor air qualities today, but that will be moving on.
00:05Clouds will move out too after rain much of the day today.
00:08Sunshine is back for Wednesday, and we're in for a cooler pattern and kind of unsettled this weekend.
00:25So some nasty air quality this morning.
00:27Many of you noticed this. It smelled and tasted like a bonfire out there.
00:31This was earlier this morning.
00:33We're in that purple category, which is unhealthy for everybody, and red across much of eastern Minnesota too.
00:39Now we peaked. This is a downtown Minneapolis sensor at about 214 for the air quality index.
00:44You want it under 50.
00:45Now down to 183, though, as of midday.
00:48So the air quality is improving.
00:50We're slowly seeing that worst of the smoke move east, and we'll really continue to do so overnight tonight.
00:55So tomorrow, we're going to see the sun, and we're going to see much better air quality again across the area.
01:00So all around, a much better day Wednesday.
01:03Today, we've got the rain along with the smoke, and the rain actually helps to push that smoke down to the surface, believe it or not.
01:10If you can get that rain ahead of a front, that can make a little bit of a difference, but it actually brings some of that smoke down.
01:17It's still a lot of dirty smoke there.
01:18That's across central Canada into Hudson Bay.
01:21But for the time being, it's going to stay up there after this moves out.
01:24We've got a cool front kind of parked to our south and east, and we're seeing this backside rain on the cool side of the front.
01:30But high pressure building in tonight into tomorrow.
01:33That'll mean some sunshine, but rain through the mid-afternoon, and then that'll move out of here by the evening pretty quickly, finally.
01:40And we'll see things clear out here to the west.
01:42Already seeing sunshine in northwestern Minnesota today, where they're seeing the warmest temperatures, mid-70s there.
01:48But rain-cooled temperatures for the Twin Cities, southeastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin, mostly just 60s.
01:53Once the rain stops, those temperatures will go up several degrees.
01:57But, again, they've been seeing the sun much of the day in northwestern Minnesota.
01:59The clouds will move out overnight.
02:01That means sunshine tomorrow.
02:03We'll see a few clouds pop up in the afternoon, but all in all, a pretty nice, bright Wednesday for us.
02:08Highs will be warmer to upper 70s for much of the state, mid to upper 70s for highs, which are close to normal.
02:15Even slightly a degree or two above, perhaps.
02:18But we're going to be back into this pattern of cool air loft, and that creates instability with this strong June sunshine.
02:25So first sort of lobe of cooler air or upper-level disturbance comes through Friday.
02:29Another one Sunday, and this is going to help to create some spotty showers.
02:33Not a washout by any means.
02:35We'll start each day sunny, and then we'll see sort of these midday afternoon clouds build.
02:40Some spotty showers popping up, especially Friday and Sunday.
02:43I think those are the best chances.
02:45But Friday, Saturday, Sunday, even Monday, each day there's at least a chance of an isolated or spotty shower.
02:51So an unsettled pattern.
02:52But adding it all up, we're not talking about a lot of rain.
02:55Maybe up to a half inch for northern Minnesota, which is good.
02:58They actually need it.
02:59They've been missed by some of these recent rainfalls that we've been seeing in southern Minnesota.
03:04So that upper-level low will move out Sunday.
03:06Okay, we're going to see upper-level ridging build back in for the middle of the week next week into next weekend.
03:11That means warmer temperatures, maybe not quite 90, but we'll be back well into the 80s, which is above normal for the time of year.
03:17Normal highs in the mid to upper 70s.
03:19So you can see that jump up in temperatures once we push out that cool air aloft that we're going to have here for the end of the week into the weekend.
03:26So if you like those warmer, more summery temperatures, they're coming back next week.
03:31Otherwise, very pleasant tomorrow.
03:33Smoky, rainy today.
03:34Probably won't see the sun before the sunset, but at least it'll be dry by the evening hours.
03:4179 tomorrow, brighter that smoke will be gone.
03:44I think the smoke will stay out of our skies here, at least in southern Minnesota, through Friday or Saturday before that next upper-level low could bring back in more smoke Sunday into Monday.
03:53But it's very difficult to forecast the smoke past really 48 hours.
03:57Meanwhile, temperatures close to normal through the weekend, but as I mentioned, might be warming back up to above normal readings in the 80s as we head into next week.
