00:00It's for Martin while Davis is
00:01probably on his way to 150 yard
00:03game. You know what's amazing
00:04about this ballgame here the
00:05Denver Broncos up 24 to nothing
00:07and sharp Shannon Sharp has one
00:09reception in this ballgame.
00:12Broncos get it first from the
00:14goal line comes to the 26 yard
00:20line. A look at our Coors Light
00:23halftime statistics. Well Dick we
00:27said at the beginning the Denver
00:29Broncos just forget about the
00:30running game of New England and
00:32just get on and start covering the
00:33passing game. Well the running
00:35game they've stuffed it with their
00:36four down linemen and a couple of
00:38linebackers. But look at 49 yard
00:41line the average of six
00:42possessions they start in the New
00:44England 49 they're playing on a
00:45half a field. This time their
00:48worst start at the 26 yard. Shannon
00:52Sharp in motion. And it's Davis
00:55powering his way breaking tackles
00:5711 yards 12 yards first down Jim
01:00Gray. All right. Thank you Dick.
01:02Well I spoke to John Elway. It's
01:03this portion of his hand right
01:04here. I asked him after he was
01:06warming up how it felt he gave me
01:07one of these. So I talked to Mike
01:09Shanahan and Shanahan said that he
01:10will give a quick hook to Elway
01:12here in the second half
01:12particularly if the game remains out
01:14of control. As for Bill Parcells he
01:15said I had nothing good to say at
01:17halftime say whatever you want. Just
01:19state it before you start.
01:23Take a take a look at the New
01:24England defensive line right. Just
01:26look at all of them along here and
01:27the problem they're having is they
01:29just cannot get off the blocks once
01:31they're engaged by the offensive
01:32linemen. Look at the wall that's
01:34pushed to the inside then a kick out
01:36block and Terrell Davis has another
01:38big hole to run through.
01:40Give him six on the play second and
01:42four.
01:46Davis will be busy here with his lead.
01:49Price is on the corner with the flag
01:50down and good defense by New
01:53England.
01:58Johnny Greer the man in the white hat
02:00today.
02:03And it's 10 against the Broncos
02:06appeared to be the tight end
02:07Dwayne Carswell.
02:10You know this is the only thing that
02:11they do wrong in this game so far
02:13is if it had a few penalties.
02:1489 offense still second down.
02:20Well Dwayne Carswell number 89 is
02:22away from the play watching come
02:24down inside gets his hand on the
02:26jersey on the outside.
02:28The ref they're going to see that
02:29every time especially when you throw
02:31the defender down to the ground.
02:32Well the worst part about that that
02:34holding penalty it was away from the
02:35play. I mean there's no way
02:36McGinnis gets into play. It's a
02:38sweep the other side.
02:40Second down 14 at the 34.
02:49It's Shannon Sharp and it's near a
02:52first down. I believe he's got it out
02:54at the 48 yard line. 14 on the play.
02:57Willie Clay the defender.
02:59Well time really lets receivers and
03:01the quarterback have success.
03:02Watch the offensive line again by the
03:05Denver Broncos.
03:06John Elway.
03:06Now watch Elway.
03:08He's going to look down the field.
03:09Nobody's open but he gets that extra second
03:11and a half and allows Shannon Sharp to go
03:14inside.
03:15Look he's covered.
03:16Oops.
03:17Let me just work my way back out.
03:18Second catch for Sharp.
03:21It is a first down.
03:22Close to the 49.
03:24McCaffrey in motion.
03:25Toss to Davis the other way.
03:27And they've not been able to run outside that well.
03:31Todd Collins makes the tackle for New England.
03:35But the inside game has been powerful once again.
03:38You know we talked to McCaffrey yesterday about
03:40Elway and the situation they're in with John Elway.
03:43You know and I said you just can't ever stop moving.
03:46We saw Sharp just make that move inside.
03:48There's nothing there so he gets back outside.
03:50You don't you don't stop doing anything until that
03:53whistle blows because John Elway first of all he's
03:55he'll sit in the pocket as long as he has to.
03:57Then when he gets away that's when he's the most dangerous.
04:00McCaffrey regarded by Shanahan as the best blocking wide
04:03receiver he's ever seen.
04:06In contact before the snap.
04:08A free play for Elway.
04:10Flips it to Cleaver and the fullback.
04:14To the 36 yard line and a first down.
04:16What did you see Anthony Miller?
04:18Well what did I see?
04:19I see a New England defense that stops.
04:22In a Denver offense that keeps going and that's
04:26you're behind 24 to nothing.
04:27You keep hustling trying to make plays.
04:30Well what happens is you when you go offside you don't stop.
04:33You're absolutely right.
04:34It is McGinnis on the bottom.
04:35Defense is declined.
04:38First down.
04:39McGinnis comes offside and then just quits.
04:42I mean on the play and then Elway just keeps right on going.
04:44Well it's not even him who really gets me upset Paul.
04:47It's the rest of the players on the inside.
04:50Watch how long this takes.
04:51Well Elway first he makes a bad throw.
04:53Aaron Craver adjusts and catches.
04:54And look where is the defense?
04:5715 yard play to the 36.
04:59Elway goes for the kill to Miller and it's out of bounds incomplete.
05:07Jimmy Hitchcock on the coverage.
05:12Miller this year making somewhat of a backseat to Shannon Sharp with Sharp
05:18almost twice as many catches.
05:20Anthony with 36 and three touchdowns coming in.
05:23Well that's the problem you have against this Denver offense.
05:28What do you do?
05:29Today New England has doubled Shannon Sharp's up.
05:32But it doesn't matter.
05:32John Elway is this one.
05:33I just thought the Anthony Miller.
05:35And of course Denver will try to use the ground game.
05:48Chew up the clock and take away any chances from Bill Parcells.
05:53That's the one thing I like about this Denver offense this year that we're seeing.
05:56Now last year they had the running game with Terrell Davis.
05:58But the thing that they do have here.
06:00You're in a situation now of third and six.
06:02You don't know what they're going to do.
06:04Because they can just as well run as well as throw the football.
06:07So I mean they're in a position right now.
06:09This doesn't make any difference on the field.
06:11They have that much confidence in their offense.
06:14Out of the shotgun.
06:22In the middle incomplete and intercepted.
06:25Picked up by Malloy.
06:26Flags are down and so is Beloy at the 32 yard line.
06:30Let's see if it counts.
06:34It would be Beloy's first interception.
06:37It'll count.
06:41Well you have to force some turnovers.
06:43You've got to pressure the quarterback.
06:45Make him throw the ball before he's ready.
06:48And sometimes good things can happen for the defense.
06:51John Elway off balance.
06:53Never really gets set.
06:54He feels a little pressure by Chris Slade.
06:57He falls away from the throw.
06:59Makes it bad.
07:00That's what caused the interception.
07:05New Mirage Coupe from Mitsubishi.
07:07Built for living by Castrol.
07:09Official motor oil sponsor of the NFL.
07:11By Brewery Fresh Budweiser.
07:13Who reminds you fresh beer tastes better.
07:15And by Energizer Batteries.
07:17Still going.
07:18Long lasting Energizer Batteries.
07:20Keep going and going.
07:24The Denver Broncos denied.
07:28And now the high powered offense of New England shutout thus far.
07:32Goes to work on the first turnover at the 32.
07:35Let's have a coach.
07:37And a first down at the 45.
07:38Let's go back to the interception.
07:40Was it or wasn't it?
07:42It wasn't.
07:43Lawyer Malloy knows.
07:44But he really disguises this well.
07:46Watch the ball folks.
07:48Don't look at anything else with the ball.
07:49It comes down.
07:50And here it hits the ground.
07:52But watch what he does.
07:53Lawyer Malloy gets that ball.
07:54He covers it up.
07:55And gets that right arm underneath.
07:56And so it looks like interception.
08:01But New England needs a break desperately.
08:04And now on first down.
08:05Bledsoe.
08:06Alfred Williams makes the hit and complete the pass.
08:10Alfred Williams.
08:11He makes the hit.
08:12He hits his arm and knocks the ball down.
08:14Alfred Williams is everywhere folks.
08:16And not just this game.
08:20It's just about every game when you watch the Denver Broncos play.
08:24Gets knocked down.
08:25We talked about it earlier.
08:26The hustle.
08:26Look.
08:27Gets back up.
08:28Gets in the face of Drew Bledsoe.
08:30And almost causes a fumble.
08:31Williams the number one draft pick by Cincinnati.
08:34A 91 out of Colorado.
08:35Last season four and a half sacks.
08:37Played a limited role with the Niners.
08:39The long pass is caught.
08:41And a double-tip catch by Sean Jefferson.
08:44Out of bounds at the 17.
08:46What a throw and what a reception by Sean Jefferson.
08:54It's really almost perfect coverage by number 20 Torrey James.
08:58But look at the throw.
09:00Gets his left hand on it.
09:01Pulls it in and makes the catch.
09:05This is a perfect pass.
09:06We talk about perfect passes every game.
09:09But this one was right there.
09:10Sean Jefferson.
09:11You talk about extending yourself to the limit.
09:14Watch Jefferson.
09:15He doesn't have it on the first.
09:16Pops it up in the air right back in his hands.
09:18Total concentration.
09:1939 yards.
09:20Jefferson's first catch of the day.
09:22Under pressure.
09:22Bledsoe has to throw it away to Sam Gash.
09:27Pressure from Williams and Michael Dean Perry.
09:29One thing that Drew Bledsoe does, he feels pressure.
09:33Of course, watch.
09:34He can see the blitz coming.
09:36So he knows he's going to have to get rid of the ball a little quicker than he wants.
09:39But he avoids a lot of sacks.
09:41A lot of sacks by just getting rid of the ball once the protection breaks down.
09:46John Mobley also in on that last play.
09:52Only three first downs from New England since the first quarter.
09:56Pass to Troy Brown who does some clever footwork.
09:59He eludes a tackler to the six-yard line where it'll be first and goal to England.
10:05Their deepest penetration of the game.
10:11Troy Brown just running the short pattern out to the flat.
10:14Drew Bledsoe doing a good job of not looking down the field.
10:17Picking the opening receiver.
10:19But Troy Brown doing an excellent job breaking Ray Crockett's tackle and getting in extra valuable yards.
10:2510 yards for Troy Brown who is subbing for Terry Glenn.
10:28The rookie wide receiver is out with a mild concussion.
10:31Will not return.
10:33Curtis Martin.
10:37Touchdown!
10:47Patriots trying to awaken this crowd in Foxborough.
10:51Molloy's interception leads to their first touchdown of the game.
10:57Well, give your team some hope.
10:59That's what they did right there.
11:00They scored a touchdown.
11:01Get the crowd involved.
11:03Hey, get your defense involved saying we can keep stopping them.
11:06Maybe we can get back in this game.
11:07And they're going to go for two points on the conversion.
11:10Brown to the left.
11:12Byers lined up just outside the tight end on the right.
11:15Byers, two points.
11:28Byers, Bledsoe could have walked in.
11:31He didn't even have to throw it.
11:33But what's the touchdown how this all started?
11:36Denver gets caught up inside.
11:38A good job.
11:38Look at William Roberts coming around, sealing off the inside.
11:42Curtis Martin uses his feet to get to the corner of the end zone.
11:46And there's two points.
11:46Watch this.
11:47Flintstone.
11:47It's so wide up there isn't a white shirt around.
11:49He can walk home.
11:57England only a minute 44 seconds after the interception to go 68 yards.
12:02And Curtis Martin seven yards for the touchdown.
12:05His 30th touchdown in only his 27th game.
12:09Vinatieri will kick it off.
12:11Vaughn Hebron at the goal line for Denver.
12:1524-8 after the two-point conversion.
12:17A side-winder taken by the up-back.
12:22And the tight end to the 29-yard line.
12:268-48 left in the third.
12:28New England fans start to raise hope.
12:35Next Saturday from one of the world's most beautiful cities.
12:38Cape Town, South Africa.
12:39It's the World Cup of Golf.
12:41Watch U.S. Open champion Steve Jones.
12:43British Open winner Tom Lehman.
12:44The recent winner of the Grand Slam and the Tour Championship
12:47against the world's best.
12:48The likes of Longer and Woosdom and Els.
12:50Next Saturday on NBC.
12:5424-8.
12:55Denver's lead has been reduced.
12:57Elway goes to work.
12:58Pump fake into the flat to Davis.
13:01And Davis breaks a tackle again.
13:0340-50 and inside the 50 to the 47.
13:07Willie Clay stops him after a gain of 24.
13:11That was the decision he made, Davis, as soon as he caught the ball.
13:15Well, he made it.
13:16Watch this.
13:17Play action.
13:18Fake the throw to the right.
13:19It's kind of a screen-like again.
13:20And throw it to Terrell Davis.
13:22Only one person out on that side of the field with him.
13:25Gloria Malloy hard to tackle Terrell Davis out in the open field.
13:31All eight possessions for Denver today.
13:33They have been in New England territory.
13:36And Davis a primary weapon.
13:39Both running and catching.
13:42Look at the patience.
13:43Now he breaks into the clear.
13:44And another first down at the 33.
13:47You know what makes this thing work, Dick, is his legs never stop.
13:51If you look at him, he bounces right into his offensive line.
13:55But watch his legs.
13:56They just don't stop.
13:57Here he is here.
13:58He's hit.
13:59His feet are moving.
14:00He keeps back to the outside.
14:02And he makes the play.
14:03So for the fourth straight week, they've given up a 100-yard rushing game.
14:07New England 111 now as Shannon Sharp.
14:11That's why even though he is small, 220 for a tight end,
14:14as Bill Parcell says, his man doesn't make many tackles.
14:18Steps away from the blitz Elway.
14:20Now Price will throw it underhanded as Mike Jones had a hold of Elway.
14:26It's just an incomplete pass.
14:29Well, it's a good job by John Elway.
14:30What he does, and this is what makes him so dangerous.
14:34He gets outside the pocket, and he was looking down the field,
14:38looking down the field, looking for that big play, and there's nothing there.
14:41So he finally decides, well, he throws it away before he has to,
14:44before he takes the sack by Mike Jones.
14:47And you saw Gary Zimmerman again.
14:48He's handled Willie McGinnis.
14:50Zimmerman, the left tackle, if you were with us from the start.
14:53Jim Gray reported that he will have an operation on a painful trapezius muscle tomorrow.
14:58Playing today.
14:59Operation tomorrow will miss only one game.
15:02Maybe.
15:03He's played in the 167 consecutive starts.
15:07Davis, not much this time.
15:09Doesn't make it Craver.
15:10Craver, a rare call.
15:12Gets to the 29, and McGinnis does make the tackle along with Sangapulatili.
15:17Maybe.
15:18Maybe he'll miss a game.
15:19That's the way Zimmerman plays.
15:20I mean, you look at what he's doing today with only one arm.
15:23I mean, he's doing a great job today.
15:25You know, they say, well, he'll be out for a week.
15:27I mean, it's just hard to believe that a guy plays today, tomorrow gets surgery,
15:30and then they say, well, he may miss a game.
15:33Heap Hebron was the ball carrier on that last effort to the 29.
15:38So it's third and six.
15:48They pick up the blitz and Elway guns.
15:51It is ruled complete or not.
15:52No signal yet.
15:54They're going to call it a catch at the 19.
15:57Shannon Sharp picking that one off the top of the grass in front of Otis Smith.
16:0110 yards and a first down.
16:04You know, Elway puts his ball the only place that can be caught.
16:08Take a look where it's down and away.
16:10There's just no chance for Otis Smith to make the play on it.
16:13Sharp goes down, catches the ball, first down.
16:16And also the Denver Broncos that time kept two backs in the backfield.
16:20You can see the fine kits by Shannon Sharp.
16:22Anytime on third down, they have two backs in the backfield.
16:25They're expecting blitz.
16:26They got it.
16:27They pick it up.
16:28That's why John Elway could get the ball down the field to Shannon Sharp.
16:31And some would argue that that ball was on the ground as well.
16:34Davis, knife down after a yard gain at the 18 by Ted Johnson.
16:43That's adding to his already century-plus afternoon, 113 yards,
16:49a couple of touchdowns rushing, plus another receiving for Terrell Davis.
16:55100-yard rushing gains the last two years now.
16:58Emmett Smith, the incomparable Cowboy, and Curtis Martin with 10, and Davis now with 9.
17:10Second call of a long 8, Davis.
17:15For the 15, McGinnis there first with Ted Johnson to help out, and Chris Lee.
17:22Phil, you said something about this team, about Denver and Davis.
17:25They don't really try to get outside or run him outside.
17:28They run, basically, tackle to tackle.
17:31Tackle to tackle.
17:32And we've asked Terrell Davis that, and why didn't he bounce more plays out?
17:35And he says, oh, you know, Coach Gibbs.
17:38Now, he really gets on me every time I get out there, and it's true.
17:42But that just shows you how it works.
17:43Have a plan.
17:44Stay with it.
17:45The coaches are adamant about it.
17:47You teach the players to do what you tell them, and that's why you have success.
17:51And Davis, third and about five and a half.
17:56Davis again.
17:58Look at him.
17:59Weaved his way, and he's to the two-yard line.
18:02They had him stopped short of the first down, but couldn't bring Davis to the turf.
18:07Well, you always say, is it a great runner?
18:10Is it bad tackling?
18:11And I just got to say, history says this guy makes a lot of great runs.
18:15Cuts it back.
18:16Nothing.
18:16Waits.
18:17Now, good job by Gary Zimmerman staying with his block.
18:20Then he makes people miss, and maybe he's not a really big running back,
18:24but he is powerful, and he's hard to bring down with one arm.
18:27Zimmerman gets two guys.
18:29Two guys he blocks on that play.
18:31First and goal from the one after a 14-yard carry.
18:39To the goal line, and no signal.
18:42He is not quite in.
18:43Well, third downs.
18:44We've talked about it so much today on the Denver Broncos offense.
18:48They pick them up.
18:48If you blitz, they protect the quarterback.
18:50Third and five a minute ago, they run the football.
18:53Not many teams this league do that.
18:56All right, here goes Kramer.
18:56Now, just take a look at the ball.
18:57They don't care what anything else is.
18:59That ball now does not go over the goal line.
19:01They just put it on the one-inch line, and the guy you give it to now is the guy that got it down there.
19:06Davis.
19:06We'll let him get his four.
19:07Well, if he does, that will erase a lot of names out of the scorebook.
19:1118 different Broncos have scored three touchdowns in a game.
19:14This would be his fourth and free up the whole page in next year's media guys.
19:18No, Elway says I'll take it.
19:20And Elway has the touchdown.
19:23Well, that was a design where you do a lot of things to run the quarterback sneak.
19:28You put the only back in motion.
19:31Yeah, the only guy that's going to carry the ball is the quarterback.
19:34And when they do that down on the goal line, if they put John Elway's in the shotgun,
19:38it means it's a quarterback draw.
19:40But it's a good disguise.
19:41That way you don't get your quarterback beat up sometimes by the linebacker charging,
19:46expecting that quarterback sneak.
19:47John Elway's third rushing touchdown of the season.
19:51And Jason Elamon for the point after.
19:56How impressive was that drive?
20:00Ten plays, 71 yards.
20:02It took five minutes.
20:03Elway with a sneak in the touchdown and Denver back in command.
20:12Terrell Davis went to high school in San Diego, same school that produced Marcus Allen.
20:18As he had a day, he's accounted for more yardage than the entire New England team.
20:24Elam's kick is going through the sun as Dave Megan.
20:28Megan spins his way to the sidelines and out of bounds at about the 33-yard line.
20:34Time for a check on NFL Elsewhere.
20:37We go to New York.
20:39All right, Dick.
20:40Elsewhere is Indianapolis.
20:41Jim Harbaugh and the Colts take advantage of a turnover from four yards out to Marvin Harrison.
20:47Dives into the end zone.
20:48The two-point conversion attempt failed.
20:50It was Adrian Morrell's fumble that gave the Colts the opportunity for the 16-15 lead, Dick.
20:57All right, Greg, in here.
20:58It's Denver in the late 31-8.
21:02Davis, as you look at his totals, 186 to all of New England's 161.
21:06He's averaging 6.2 yards a touch today.
21:1030 touches to match the number on his jersey.
21:12Gledsoe.
21:14Let's do that right in the back of the umpire.
21:19Curtis Martin and Alan Aldridge covers the play.
21:23Let's go to Jim.
21:24Dick, well, it was just this weekend where Terrell Davis kind of broke his silence
21:28and kind of came out against Ray Goff, his former coach at Georgia,
21:31blasting him in a sense for not playing him at Georgia and saying he was against him,
21:36kind of holding him on the bench and not allowing his tapes to go out to scouts,
21:39and he really could never figure that out.
21:40But Davis now taking the opportunity this weekend,
21:43finally letting everybody know why he was drafted so late.
21:45But here he goes.
21:46Dick?
21:47Ben Coates, thank you, Jim.
21:48With a short yardage catch out to the 39-yard line,
21:51where it'll be third down and about five.
21:54Ray Crockett, the tackler.
21:55You know, I can remember seeing the University of Georgia almost every week on TV.
22:00It was all Eric Zier.
22:02It was Eric Zier.
22:03They threw it every down and they had such a great tradition of running backs down there.
22:07And I can remember Terrell Davis being there and I went,
22:10wow, at least the running back situation has really gone downhill in Georgia.
22:14So much for that scouting job.
22:16Oh, yeah.
22:17And third and five.
22:24Way off the mark.
22:25There's the closest receiver, Vincent Brisby, and Bledsoe much too tall and three and out here.
22:33I think we cannot as Denver's defense leaves the field.
22:37That has been the ingredient that has made this Denver team a powerhouse thus far.
22:42Last year, remember Mike Shanahan said, you know,
22:44we're not that far away from being a Super Bowl team.
22:46What do we do?
22:47Wait till we go out of the room.
22:48What do we laugh?
22:49Hey, it's crazy.
22:51Look out of the room.
22:51Everybody goes, are you kidding?
22:54But, you know, really, though, when he did leave, we laughed at first.
22:56Then we started thinking about it.
22:58And we all kind of said, you know, maybe he's right.
22:59Just a couple defensive players.
23:02And what has happened, some pass rushers have made the secondary a lot better.
23:07Looked like New England might have had that punt partially blocked.
23:12Keith Burns, 56.
23:14You know he blocked it because his hands, he hurt one of the hands and hit the football.
23:19Ball downed at about the 31-yard line, a 31-yard punt.
23:23And Burns, who leads Denver in special teams tackles this year, gets a piece of that one.
23:29Timeout, 2-0-8 left in the third.
23:36Alfred Williams can't quite see his face, but he looks menacing.
23:41But, boy, he's got one of the biggest laughs.
23:44I mean, we talked to him yesterday.
23:46He had the whole room smiling.
23:47He's a happy man.
23:49Happy to be with Denver as they take over at the 31.
23:52And Davis back to the line of scrimmage.
23:55And that's it.
23:55Back to confirmation on Denver's improved defense.
24:00Before Shanahan, 94, they were 28th in the league.
24:04Last year, down to 15th.
24:05And this year, coming in today, fourth in the NFL.
24:08And they may move up on that fourth after what they've done to New England so far in this game.
24:12A team, New England, in the last eight games that has led the entire NFL in scoring,
24:18averaging around 32 points a game.
24:25Elway to Miller, stopped at the 40.
24:28It'll be a yard shy of a first down.
24:30Let's go to New York in an update.
24:32All right, Dick, just one minute after the Colts grab the lead, they extend it.
24:40Frank Reich picked off by Eugene Daniel.
24:43He goes 35 yards for the touchdown.
24:45And with the extra point, Indy now leads the New York Jets 23 to 15.
24:51Ageless Eugene Daniel at the corner for the Colts.
24:54He's been there since day one in Indy.
24:57That was his rookie year.
25:00Third and one.
25:01And easily picking up the first down is Terrell Davis out to the 44-yard line.
25:08Well, do you, what is the weakness in this Denver team?
25:13Nothing.
25:14I mean, really, in all honesty, I keep looking for it.
25:18And people ask me every week, and I talk on some of these shows, and they have no weakness.
25:22That's why they're a serious contender for the Super Bowl.
25:25They can run the football.
25:26Of course, we know they can throw it.
25:28The defense is good against the run in the pass.
25:31They can beat you in a lot of ways.
25:33That's what makes them such a serious playoff contender.
25:37Delway said it.
25:38He's never had such talent in the line or at the skill positions in his 14 years.
25:44Ted Johnson making the tackle in the final seconds here of the third quarter.
25:49As Davis stopped for no gain.
25:51We'll pick up on your comments here, Phil, as we move on.
25:54But we'll be back after these messages from your local station.
25:59It's intended for the private use of our audience.
26:02Any rebroadcast or other use of this telecast without the express written consent of the NFL is prohibited.
26:10To the fourth quarter we go.
26:12Dick Enberg with Paul Maguire and Phil Simms.
26:14Jim down on the field for us today.
26:1731-8.
26:18It's been Denver from, as they say, the get-go.
26:22And Drew Bledsoe and the Patriots unable to really get much known against the Broncos.
26:30They just took a part down.
26:32Miller to the 45.
26:34That would be good enough for a first down.
26:35Monte Brown makes the tackle.
26:39Fourth catch for Anthony Miller.
26:41I mean, you've heard the phrase, this is like stealing.
26:44And this is.
26:44Play action away.
26:46Anthony Miller one-on-one against Ricky Reynolds.
26:48You've got to respect the speed.
26:50The linebackers go up inside.
26:52And John Elway.
26:53It's not that easy in practice for him.
26:55Surprised a bit that Elway with this big lead.
26:5831-8.
26:58And the bruised hand is still in there.
27:00This will be the last series for the starters on offense.
27:03And probably defense.
27:04They'll now get some play out of some of the backup people.
27:11Darrell Davis.
27:14Fights for a couple extra yards to the 41-yard line.
27:16This is the ninth time in nine possessions today Denver is in New England territory.
27:21You know, we talk about Alfred Williams.
27:22We talked about him for three quarters in this game.
27:25And I'm going to tell you one thing about this guy.
27:26That Phil Simms said the first time we did this team about Alfred Williams.
27:30He said there's a great acquisition from free agency on any team in the National Football League.
27:36It was this guy right here.
27:38Not a big name.
27:39All those high-profile defensive ends going out there.
27:42When you can get an impact defensive line in this league, you're doing something.
27:46And they didn't get him at a superstar price.
27:48But he's playing like a superstar.
27:51Second down and five.
27:53Davis threw a big hole.
27:55Rumbles to the 30.
27:57Lawyer Malloy stops him another first down.
28:00Well, let's take a look at how quick and strong Alfred Williams is and what he brings to the party.
28:06Speed outside, get him to the quarterback and hustle.
28:13This move here was incredible.
28:16He was on Bledsoe before Bledsoe got back.
28:18And the total package fights off blocks, spins, makes the tackle on the run.
28:23That's what separates this guy.
28:25He can rush the passer, but Dick, like you said earlier, he is excellent against the run.
28:29And is he happy?
28:30He's the happiest man in Denver.
28:32I'm happy.
28:32He said, I'm happy.
28:33No, he's not the happiest man in Denver.
28:35Mike Shannon said, I am.
28:38Well, adding to his 150 yards is Terrell Davis as he picks up about five more.
28:44So that'll be 155 for Terrell.
28:47You know, we saw him the play before Terrell Davis running the ball.
28:49They better get him out of there before he hurt somebody.
28:51He's just running over people.
28:53He's going to hurt somebody.
28:55Alfred Williams.
28:56Many of you have heard the reports that Williams' nickname was Big Money
29:00because he used to sleep on his paychecks as a rookie under his pillow.
29:04He confirmed that, didn't he?
29:05He did.
29:05But you know what happened is he got this big bonus check as a rookie.
29:09It was like a couple million dollars.
29:10So he gets this game check for 12,000.
29:12He goes, 12,000?
29:14What do I do with that?
29:16Throw it under my pillow.
29:16Yeah, I'll just save a few of them until it gets there.
29:19Vaughn has run in for Davis.
29:21Close to a first down to the 21.
29:23But the funniest thing of all, though, he collected like eight or nine checks.
29:27If you can imagine this, folks.
29:28He got eight or nine checks.
29:29And he's going through one.
29:30And he's lining them up.
29:31Here's game one.
29:31Here's game two.
29:32Wait a minute.
29:33I lost one.
29:33I lost a game check somewhere.
29:35So he called to ask him if they found his game check.
29:37He said, well, I found it.
29:38I don't know where I found it, but I found it somewhere.
29:39And can you imagine this guy going to the bank and cashing them all at the same time?
29:43You've got to drive people crazy.
29:45It's third and one.
29:47It's part of what Mike Shanahan has done using the unrestricted free agent marketplace.
29:53Nine starters for Denver.
29:55Nine in the last two years from the unrestricted list.
29:59Davis is going in there with a flag down.
30:02Davis tackled at the 16.
30:04Here are the men for Denver that have arrived by way of free agency.
30:10All starters, Thompson, McCaffrey, Michael Dean Perry, Schlereth, Aaron Craver, Mike Lodish,
30:16Lionel Washington.
30:17He'll be back next week as a starter at the corner after the entry against Kansas City.
30:20And then the two big ones this year, Williams and Romanowski.
30:23I think there is no question those two are the two best pickups by any team this year.
30:29And what's so impressive of it?
30:30You've got to evaluate talent in the free agent market very carefully because
30:35you are not getting the bargains in the money department when you go out there and get free agents.
30:39So you have to give Mike Shanahan and the personnel for Denver a lot of credit
30:43going out there and really getting to make good prices.
30:46And they've played above that price.
30:48That's very seldom done in this league now.
30:50Davis out and Hebron in.
30:53Third down and 11.
30:57And Hebron.
31:00He's corralled after a couple by Mike Jones, the defensive end.
31:04Terrell Davis on the sidelines for that play now has 211 total yards.
31:11Well, you think some of these linemen don't love it when it gets to this part of the game.
31:14They just rear back and just try to hit people.
31:17What's number 75?
31:19Brian Habib, the right guard.
31:21Pull out.
31:23Leading the play.
31:24He says, let me hit somebody.
31:25Boom.
31:26Hit him.
31:26Fall on him.
31:27Give him a little extra business and say it's been a good day for the O-line.
31:3146-yard attempt by Elam.
31:35And it is good.
31:38Make it 47 officially for Jason Elam.
31:43And the Broncos tack on three more.
31:4634 to 8.
31:47Tom Ruin, the punter, with a good job to set it up in time.
31:54You're watching the NFL on NBC.
32:02Acura, who invites you to test drive the new flagship of Acura, the RL.
32:06By AT&T, your true choice.
32:09And by Visa, the preferred card of the NFL.
32:13It's everywhere you want to be.
32:17Denver, convincingly, 34-8.
32:27To Troy Brown at the 6.
32:31Brown finds some room.
32:33Out to the 35-yard line.
32:3610 minutes, 11 seconds left.
32:38A tough one to swallow for Bill Parcells.
32:43Perfect for any game, Domino's has the per...
32:47And welcome back to Foxboro, where Shannon Sharp, who is the court jester for the Broncos.
32:55Habib with that knockdown.
32:57He's in his corner and pulling him off.
32:58He'll let big man off.
33:03Start at the 35.
33:03Well, that's good.
33:05Give some credit for those big old linemen.
33:07Because they're the ones making it happen for this Denver Broncos team and offense.
33:10Gledsoe trips it down the field and finds an open spot.
33:14Ben Coates was the closest blue jersey.
33:16Well, Pat Bolin took over the franchise as the owner.
33:211984, his 13th season.
33:23He's been to three Super Bowls.
33:24And now he has his best team ever.
33:27They've won their last six.
33:29They've lost only one.
33:30And that was by three points at Kansas City.
33:33The biggest thing on his mind along with the success of his team is a new stadium.
33:37They'll have a bond issue voted next November in Denver.
33:39They want the same opportunity that baseball has there.
33:43Coors Field, a sales tax.
33:45They get no revenue from parking or advertising or concessions at mile high.
33:50Part of the problem there economically.
33:52Curtis Martin out of bounds.
33:55Close to a first down at the 45-yard line.
33:58John Mobley ran him up.
34:00And I guess the new stadium issue is pertinent to so many owners.
34:05And that's Bob Kraft, the owner of the Patriots.
34:07He wants to use his own.
34:09It does not.
34:09He's not asking for public money.
34:11He'll use his own money to build a stadium in downtown Boston.
34:13But can't seem to find any property on which to build it.
34:19All we got to do is go down and condemn a section.
34:22There you got it.
34:23And there's so much historical down there to come.
34:26Why don't you move into it, Paul?
34:27What a hell.
34:30You can't.
34:31Back down after a couple-yard game.
34:33He's one up.
34:34Thinking if Bob Kraft could hire you for good purpose, right?
34:37Yeah.
34:37Move me in down.
34:39Oh, look at that.
34:40There you go.
34:42Shannon Sharp.
34:43Now, we got to tell you about this.
34:44Thunder and lightning.
34:45That's what he names those arms.
34:46And Eddie McCaffrey swore to us.
34:48He stole it from him.
34:4971 offense.
34:52Still third down.
34:54Eddie McCaffrey.
34:55Eddie McCaffrey.
34:56Well, he's, I don't know what you'd call his arms.
34:58I know those are called big.
35:02Shannon Sharp, he knows he's built.
35:05When you come into an interview without a shirt on, you know you're looking pretty good.
35:10I'll tell you, I threw two darts at him and they just bounced off his body and he didn't have a shirt on.
35:14I'll tell you.
35:16Third down, a long 10 for Blitzo under pressure and gets it away, but that'll be a flag for
35:22intentionally grounding as jumpy gathers.
35:25That's Paul McGuire's favorite defensive lineman.
35:28Oh, put on the pressure.
35:29He put the forklift on him.
35:30I think he got through.
35:31I mean, he, he just comes through and nobody even slows it down.
35:34Illegal touching of a pass by an ineligible receiver.
35:38Number 64 offense.
35:40That's a loss of down.
35:42Fourth down.
35:44It also was illegal mugging by number 79, jumpy gathers.
35:49Jumpy.
35:49Jumpy gathers number 79.
35:52He's in there.
35:52She's in there.
35:54I mean, when he makes the move, watch this bump, he's around.
35:56Oh, they were waiting for the forklift.
35:58Slow that the old slip over.
36:00Every defensive lineman said, boy, we're all better because gathers is on this team.
36:05Veteran 13 years out of Wichita State.
36:0836 year old gathers.
36:09He can give you about 15 good downs a game.
36:15Two for the punt.
36:19Around Smith.
36:21At the 12.
36:23Flag down.
36:24And Smith tackled at the 25 yard line.
36:2853 yard punt.
36:3113 on the return plus the penalty.
36:33You know how jumpy gathers got his name, nickname.
36:37His real name is James.
36:39His grandfather gave him jumpy because whenever grandpa came around, he'd jump into his arms.
36:45You know who jumpy two is.
36:47No.
36:47Who?
36:48Paul McGuire.
36:49Jumpy.
36:50It will show you.
36:51Yeah.
36:51Yeah.
36:52We're going to show you why he should be jumpy, too.
36:55Face mask.
36:57Number 25 of the receiving team during the return.
37:00First down.
37:01Darius Johnson.
37:04And with that a timeout.
37:059-03 left in the fourth quarter.
37:08The doubleheader coming up.
37:09The Dolphins 5-5.
37:10Back alive after the win against Indianapolis last week.
37:136-4 Houston.
37:14The Oilers looking for a playoff spot.
37:16Baltimore high scoring.
37:18We'll test that San Francisco defense.
37:20That's coming up after a game from Foxborough.
37:24Bill Musgrave for John Elway.
37:27Hands off to Hebron.
37:29A gain of about five.
37:31Well, jumpy gathers and Paul McGuire.
37:33They met recently and jumpy throwed him that forklift move of his.
37:37I'm going to get down.
37:38All right.
37:38I got to come out, right?
37:39Yeah.
37:40All right.
37:40Ready?
37:40Let's go.
37:43Wait.
37:43Wait.
37:45Let me down.
37:47You all right?
37:47Yeah, I'm good.
37:48You sure?
37:48Yeah.
37:49How did that work?
37:49That was slow motion now.
37:50I really want to hurt you back if I was going full skiing.
37:54Oh.
37:55You know, I jumped into his arm.
37:56You were doing a jumpy yourself.
37:58Well, we practiced the time before.
37:59He almost broke my back.
38:00I was about to smack him right in the mouth.
38:02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
38:02Those guys grabbed me.
38:03I'm surprised that he shook you up.
38:05Sugs didn't come out of the top of your head.
38:10You mean he's ready?
38:11Oh, he was in the laundry.
38:12That's right.
38:13Well, yeah.
38:14The old laundry trick.
38:16Oh, I like how Paul is so brave about jumping now that he's not around.
38:19That is a big, that's a big man.
38:21I'm going to tell you something.
38:22His arms are so big and he, it was so easy for him the first time.
38:26He just lifted me straight up in the air.
38:28It was so easy for him.
38:30You know, I only weigh about like 198 pounds.
38:32It was so easy for him, but I believe the whistle had sounded, it had, Mark Wheeler, Michael Ruzione,
38:50his glory days from 80 live on with a strong heartbeat here in New England, and John Elway's day, 14 for 23, 175 yards, a touchdown passing, a touchdown rushing and one interception on deflection.
39:08Okay, we're all right, here we go.
39:21Here we go, guys.
39:22No, not really like great statistics, but he played a lot better than the statistics say, too, because the plays were so timely and a lot of them were third down plays and completions to keep drives going.
39:34Bruins punt toward Megan, that's a bounce, it takes a Denver bounce, most of the bounces have been for Denver today, haven't they?
39:4249 on the kick, six minutes and 44 seconds left.
39:51Flag down on the punt at the 35-yard line.
39:58Well, when you're hot, you can find any way to cool off.
40:01Shannon on the sidelines.
40:04You asked for it.
40:09All right, now you're cool.
40:20Well, Bill Parcells this week said that that man has won five or six great, great players in the NFL, and then tested all of us.
40:28Okay, let's name, yeah, who's the great running guy, who's the great defensive back?
40:32We have illegal touching, number 25 of the kicking teams.
40:37Went out of bounds, came back in and was the first to touch the kick.
40:41The penalty is declined.
40:42And New England will take over at the 30-yard line with a timeout.
40:47But one thing Parcells said, one of the five or six is Shannon Sharp, Denver.
40:54Key battle in the AFC.
40:56Dan Marino leads Jimmy Johnson's Miami Dolphins against Eddie George and the Houston Oilers.
41:01Or Jerry Rice and the San Francisco 49ers host Vinny Testaverde and the high-scoring Baltimore Ravens.
41:08Game two, coming up next on NBC.
41:10More action to follow from Foxboro, where the Denver Broncos have the big lead, 34-8.
41:22Bledsoe at the 30-yard line.
41:24Six-forty-two left, and Bledsoe has to swallow it.
41:32Tanabusa.
41:34Mawa makes the sack his fourth, and here's a man playing just part-time.
41:40Four sacks for him on the year.
41:42Let's take a look at the remaining games for these teams.
41:45For the Broncos, you'll see them at Minnesota next Sunday.
41:49We move to December, Seattle, and how about December 8th at Green Bay?
41:55Ooh, we're going to be there.
41:56Can't wait.
41:57And Oakland and San Diego.
41:59Do something warm.
42:01It's going to be fun.
42:03Ooh, that's nearly caught by the shirt tail.
42:05Gets the pass off to Curtis Martin, but for only a yard gain.
42:10Alfred Williams was the man that almost had the sack, had a piece of the jersey.
42:15That brings up third down.
42:16And for New England, the Patriots winning seven of their last eight until today.
42:22They have Indianapolis at home next week.
42:24Then they go out to San Diego, home against the Jets, and finish on the road.
42:28Dallas and the Giants.
42:29A Saturday game, or that's a Sunday game, in New York.
42:35It was a Saturday game.
42:37It is a Saturday game.
42:38It's the 21st.
42:39And cut.
42:40Cut.
42:43Bledsoe on third and long down the middle.
42:45And almost Steve Atwater, who had an interception early today from Darius Johnson.
42:52Now is Atwater and Johnson in on the play.
42:55Sean Jefferson, the intended receiver.
42:57What stops it, I think Steve Atwater doesn't want to run through his own guy.
43:01And Darius Johnson, number 25.
43:03Atwater's coming in front.
43:04No, the ball, he comes through.
43:06He just misses the interception because Johnson got his hand on the ball.
43:11Atwater playing a very key role in some early plays in this game.
43:16An interception.
43:17He stopped a play a yard shy of a first down on the first possession.
43:21Tupo tried the fake punt.
43:24Ball was dropped by Bruschi.
43:26And nothing much else has been played for New England today.
43:30Much to the credit of the men they're trying to play.
43:33As Rod Smith fair catches at the 25-yard line.
43:36A 50-yard punt.
43:38Well, there weren't a lot of opportunities for Bill Parcell's New England team.
43:44And here, on fourth down alley, the fake punt.
43:49But Bruschi stripped to the ball by Corey James.
43:53And then Glenn in the end zone.
43:55Unable to come up with a touchdown catch.
43:59Vinatieri just misses on a field goal.
44:02These plays in the first half.
44:03And meantime, Denver was running up a 21-0 lead.
44:09Betron Smith and Vaughn Hebron are the running back combination now.
44:15And Hebron straight ahead.
44:16We'll take a look at the other scores, the early games today.
44:21Washington and Philadelphia in a shootout with five and a half minutes left.
44:25Buffalo will go to eight and three.
44:27And will be the leader in the AFC East.
44:30Kansas City in a struggle with the Bears, who tested Denver last week at Mile High.
44:41Pittsburgh, one of the quality teams in the AFC.
44:47Detroit now finally in the lead against Seattle.
44:50We're going to see the Lions in Kansas City on Thanksgiving Day.
44:53Indianapolis, desperate for a win.
44:56Jets hanging tough against Indianapolis.
44:59Carolina continues to play well.
45:03You know, I'm going to say one thing about this defense, about Denver.
45:06When we're watching, you've got a 10-1 team now.
45:09When they were on defense in that last segment there,
45:13Dick, they didn't stop doing the things they did in the first quarter,
45:15which I really like about a team.
45:17You know, some teams, okay, we'll play back a little bit.
45:19They just kept coming after you're not trying to run the score up.
45:22This is what this team does.
45:24And if you practice like that and you do this in the game for 60 minutes,
45:27you're going to be successful.
45:30First down for the Bronco Reserves.
45:33Chris Sullivan comes in defensively for New England, number 74,
45:37the rookie from Boston College.
45:39And that creates an interesting matchup with a Bronco setter.
45:42As Hebron, trapped by Johnson, loses a yard.
45:47The center for the Patriots, Nalen, in his third year,
45:51teammate of Chris Sullivan at B.C.,
45:53Nalen played his high school football here in Foxborough.
45:57And Sullivan played just down the road nine miles from the stadium in Attleboro.
46:02So I might even guess that they played against each other in high school
46:05at one time or another, and then college teammates,
46:07and now they go nose-to-nose in the NFL.
46:10Well, Nalen, in his third year, building some rather high regard around the league.
46:15He's become a solid NFL center.
46:24Makes the solid ball go outside and not head up on the center as Hebron carries.
46:29And we send you to New York.
46:33All right, Dick, there's no quit in the New York Jets today.
46:35This is Frank Reich for the third time today, hooking up with Jeff Graham for a touchdown.
46:40This one good for 32 yards.
46:42The two-point conversion was good.
46:44And the Jets with a three-point lead now at Indy.
46:46Plenty of time left in the fourth quarter, Dick.
46:49All right, Greg, the Jets, as Bill Parcell said,
46:54he thinks that their offense is the best in the AFC East.
46:58Boy, they got the weapons.
46:59And it also reminds you of the other one, Mike Shanahan.
47:02How about when he said, I asked him about New England's offense, the weapons,
47:06and he says, well, they're good,
47:07but I don't know if they're as good as the Baltimore Ravens when we play them.
47:10So two teams that can't win many games but have really good offenses are the Jets and the Ravens.
47:15Chris Sullivan makes the tackle, denies the first down try of Hebron at the 50-yard line
47:21with a clock running at 2.53 in Foxborough Stadium,
47:25emptying as if there was a fire escape.
47:28Dick, that's right.
47:29You know, you can say, it's hard to say this, but I believe it.
47:32I mean, is that I know they're in the AFC, but the Denver Broncos,
47:37this has been the best team in football so far this season,
47:40and I don't think there's really a question.
47:41They've played solid from start to now, and they do it in all areas.
47:46A lot of the other good teams that we perceive as the best have weaknesses.
47:49Denver has none, and here are even the punting game.
47:52Look at Rowan, like a five-iron that he just kills at the one-yard line,
47:58a 49-yard punt, and that'll bring a smile from the punter for the Broncos.
48:04That's just completing the package.
48:08You know, in the second half of this doubleheader, Dick,
48:10I'm going to tell you, there's a game, Miami at Houston.
48:14Do you believe Houston's going to be in the playoffs?
48:15I believe that they're going to be there,
48:17and Miami still has a pretty good shot of getting there.
48:19And the way Marino threw the ball last week,
48:21and being in Houston in that dome with no air,
48:25he should have a field day.
48:26Both of these quarterbacks.
48:32Well, they're now calling it a touchback,
48:34bringing it out to the 20-yard line.
48:36Did one of the Broncos accidentally touch the goal line, apparently?
48:41He touched the ball, then he fell over and hit the end zone line,
48:45and that is a touchback.
48:46You cannot touch that line when you have possession of that football on the punts.
48:49A little too greedy.
48:50Instead of carefully taking it at the two, he let it roll to the one and touched the goal line.
48:56That's the big kick.
48:57Rowan, Brown with a short game pass from Bledsoe.
49:04Watch the punt.
49:05Here's why it's called a touchback.
49:08The Broncos are going to stop the ball.
49:11Boom, on the one-yard line.
49:13And then, oh, he rolls over.
49:15His shoulder hits the end zone line.
49:19That is a touchback.
49:20It wasn't even his ball anyway.
49:21The other guy had it.
49:24A two-minute warning.
49:26Denver with a huge lead.
49:32World premiere tonight.
49:34A heart-stopping thriller.
49:36So don't nudge your dial.
49:37He got another football game ahead.
49:39All the Sunday night lineup capped off by Jack Reed.
49:42I like that, Brian Denning.
49:43I do, too, and I like the name.
49:45Jack.
49:46Yeah, I know you like Reed.
49:47Brian Denning.
49:48He looks like he could have been an old NFL lineman.
49:50He's got that big old chest.
49:52You know, he's got a good attitude, too.
49:54Don't stop at the chest.
49:55He'll get on him, too.
49:58I'm sure he'll appreciate that.
50:00Yeah.
50:01He's a great actor.
50:02So much for that in-studio visit from Brian at our next game.
50:06How are you going to take his shirt off in the movies, Paul?
50:08You know?
50:09Quick toss into the flat as Denver Gillian.
50:12New England, though, a short pass is a fumble.
50:14And it does hit the sidelines in possession of the Patriots at the 29.
50:19Jim?
50:20Dick, John Elway is leaving early here as we walk off with him.
50:23He's going to have his right hand x-ray.
50:25I just spoke to John.
50:26He says he doesn't feel as though it's broken.
50:28It's a precautionary thing.
50:29He said he could have continued to play and feels as though he will be able to play next week.
50:33But he wants to get out of here early just to avoid all the crush and having his hand further injured.
50:37Dick?
50:38All right.
50:38Thanks, Jim.
50:40And, of course, that would be a major story should the injury be serious.
50:45Precautionary x-rays.
50:47Elway expected to play against Minnesota at Minnesota next Sunday.
50:51Ben Coates struggling to the sticks, and they'll move the chains first down at the 43, clock at 109-108.
50:59You know, I'll tell you what would be good for John Elway and the Denver Broncos if they could get in the situation in one of those last three games.
51:08Wide open as Jefferson.
51:09But just misses connection.
51:11Boy, he is fast.
51:13But talking about John Elway, if they could get in the position where they could actually sit him down for a week where he didn't have to play,
51:20and so he wouldn't take the beating, get healthy for a game or two at the end of the season, and then get ready for the playoffs.
51:25But, you know, not only for the game, but also if you're not playing quarterback, give you a chance to rest during the week
51:30because sometimes practice is just as grueling as the games because of the mental and physical preparation.
51:35Well, one thing about this team that we didn't really address is their practice schedule, Dick.
51:39They don't do pads.
51:40I mean, Shanahan just agreed to one thing with this team.
51:43All right, we're going to go through the motions.
51:45We're going to have brisk practices, but no pads.
51:47This ball is knocked down, but no pads.
51:50And let's, I mean, when they come into a game on Sunday, and you see it, Phil, they're rested.
51:54They're a rested football team.
51:56Alfred Williams, let me duck that in because he's been such a force again today.
52:00Williams was the man who fly-swatted the ball down.
52:03He was a high school basketball star in Houston and uses that talent.
52:06Now here, counting the Denver win against New England, the best AFC records.
52:13And Buffalo and Pittsburgh, we projected with big leads that they will win as well.
52:18Kansas City's still too close to call at this point.
52:21Sounds like an election.
52:25Denver may well be on its way there, that home field advantage.
52:29Well, with this team and playing at home, they would be hard to beat in the playoffs.
52:33Dan Coates unable to pull it in at the 45 with Aldrich and Darius Johnson surrounding him.
52:38I don't think there will be many people who will disagree, Dick, that the Denver Broncos may, are, they are the best team in the AFC.
52:46And you'll take it farther than that?
52:48Well, I said earlier, I think they're the best team in the league.
52:51And everybody likes to argue.
52:53But you look at, let's just take the San Francisco 49ers.
52:56They have weaknesses.
52:57Their offensive line is not near as solid as the offensive line here, the Denver Broncos.
53:01You look at Green Bay.
53:02Again, they don't protect the quarterback well enough.
53:05Denver, as we've noted many times, they do everything well.
53:08Fourth and ten, and they blitz Bledsoe, who throws complete at the 40-yard line with 40 seconds left.
53:15They have rushed the ball to England only nine times today.
53:18If they don't run it again, it will be a New England record in their history.
53:22They've never rushed fewer times the previous Mark 10 against the Jets 10 years ago.
53:29Bledsoe, the coach rules.
53:32He's leveled by Darius Johnson, who weighs only 175 pounds, a rookie corner from Oklahoma.
53:39But he hit him with all 175 pounds of it.
53:42He just left the ground and hit coach.
53:45Nine, eight seconds left.
53:47And Bledsoe trying to get a cosmetic score.
53:51Running out of time.
53:52Could be the last play.
53:53And is.
53:54Ball lands just as the final second ticks off.
53:57And Mike Shanahan's team has won its seven in a row.
54:01They're 10 out of 11.
54:03A thorough defeat of the New England Patriots, 34-8 today.
54:09So, the American Football Conference and the National Football League will now look at the team to beat, for the moment, the Denver Broncos.
54:19That'll do it here from Foxborough.
54:21Let's go to Great Gumbel in New York.
