00:30Quand on a practice, on a changeover, a player comes off, a player comes off, a player comes
00:56on have you ever experienced like players who just won't get come off the court but like when their
01:01time's up does that ever happen no not really um i can't i can't think of a time where we've ever
01:08had to be forceful and get on the court and force someone off it wouldn't happen even like maybe
01:16itf or juniors people are just like okay normally um i can't remember ever having an issue i think
01:25for the most part everyone is pretty respectful of people's practice time and it's obviously hard
01:31enough at a tournament to get your time i think everyone is pretty good about respecting when
01:36your time is up and allowing the next person hello congratulations after you have won a grand slam
01:43after so many years what changed in your mind after having this experience where you were getting for
01:51and where you did unbelievable performance what changed in your mind on the grand slam like this
01:57having one that you have worn um i think there's you know i think there's just a little bit of a
02:06weight that's lifted just because it was obviously a goal for a really long time to win a slam and
02:11now that i was able to do that i think it just kind of shifts to i'd really like to do that again
02:18um but i think at the end of the day it's it's pretty much the same everyone who comes into
02:23this tournament wants to be the last one standing hey well done can i just ask um how different the
02:30conditions were today with the sun finally coming out compared to like your first round match
02:34uh it felt it felt a lot warmer that's for sure i think um obviously it was just a warmer day in
02:43general and then even being third versus fourth i went on i think two and a half hours three hours
02:49earlier so it just felt like you know the ball was moving a little bit more and it was maybe bouncing
02:56a little bit more um i feel like here especially at night it plays just a little bit slower and a little
03:02bit better how does that affect kind of your preparations or your mindset i guess mid-match
03:07when it is say a bit lively or a bit faster i think you just know going into it like i've been
03:14checking the weather to see what's what the next day looks like so i typically um like today i went up
03:21in my tension just because i knew that the ball was probably going to fly a little bit more and
03:24um i think you kind of know that the ball might move a little bit more you might have some balls that
03:31bounce higher and on days where it's going to be later or colder you know that you might have to reset
03:35the point a few more times
03:36hi uh some players will talk about putting in uh match time requests or even day requests at a place
03:50like here we've got a three-day first round how often do you do that how often do they listen to
03:57and has that changed over time for you well i've had how many 1 a.m 2 a.m finishes and i can tell you
04:06that i did not request that so sometimes um the request goes uh they write it down and they say
04:15okay um i think i would argue that most people would like to play at some time in the day obviously
04:23being first or second on especially at a slam when you're following men's matches that could be five
04:28sets i think in a perfect world first on i would pick it every single time um considering the fact
04:37that i don't usually play first on kind of shows how you can request things but things don't always
04:42really happen um and i really think that it's just it's kind of up to what the tournament wants what
04:48tv wants things like that and sometimes you kind of get what you ask for and other times
04:55you get the complete opposite do you think it should be the case that a player who is let's say
05:01a top 10 player grand slam champion maybe gets listened to more
05:06um
05:10i don't really know how i feel about it to be totally honest i think in some ways
05:16it is it totally fair probably not but at the same time you can argue that
05:24they probably sell more tickets at the end of the day like the bigger players like obviously if
05:33rafa comes in and wants something like give rafa what he wants um and i think i think there's there
05:40definitely should be a balance to it but to be honest i don't really know where i fully stand on that
05:46question
05:47um you have one of the best second serves in the game at least in my opinion and i think that was
05:56pretty evident today like compared to katie who was struggling with her second serve and hit double
06:00four some key points i'm curious um just what the origins of your kick second serve was when you
06:05were younger and developing it what helped you to develop it i mean i remember even like when you
06:10won your first match i remember people just talking about how amazing it was then so
06:14you know just what were the origins of that um i i started training at everett tennis academy when i
06:21was 10 and i had a coach named uh mandy wilson and i give i would say to this day i give her all the
06:30credit in the world for my kick serve she completely helped me from the start i remember standing on the
06:37outside of the fence and having to try to kick it up and over the fence and just work on that so so
06:43much and it was just such a thing that we focused on for so long and it was that and honestly it was
06:51my um forehand grip i used to be very under and there
06:57and um so it it took a few years of really practicing that and not really doing well i would
07:09go to tournaments and my serve would be flattened out again and we'd have to go back and really work
07:13on that so um lots and lots of work at a very very young age
07:18i don't know if i ever successfully did make it over the fence a lot of them would hit the top and
07:26come right back at me so it was a it was a good reaction drill as well
07:31hi madison um you've answered the question about things that have changed or not since you won a
07:39grand slam i know you've asked answered that question a lot over the last few months i just
07:43wonder in a very micro scale when you're in a match and it's tight does the pressure do the
07:50pressure moments feel any different to you they don't no the pressure moments will always feel the
07:57same i think it's the the experience obviously i think helps just because the more that you're in
08:04that and the more that you've found a way through them i think you can rely on that
08:09but the pressure moments feel the same
08:12thank you
