00:00BNP Paribas, partenaire des plus belles histoires de Roland Garros, aux côtés des ramasseurs de balles depuis plus de 50 ans.
00:30Oui, c'est parti.
01:00Ça a été le 10th ou 11th, c'est parti.
01:30Ok, well done today
01:33Just wanted for you, thinking
01:36kind of about Fonseca, his
01:38kind of, he's now trying to make that
01:39step up, I just wondered what you found
01:42were kind of the biggest challenges
01:43or differences about playing
01:45the top players, things they did differently and things
01:48that you then had to do to kind of bridge the gap
01:50a little bit. Yeah, I think a lot of
01:52it is just experience and you know
01:53sometimes you may feel like
01:55a better player than them but maybe
01:58you know, I think what makes a difference is like
01:59they know what to do in those tough
02:02moments and obviously
02:04with him he's so talented
02:06and doing so great and
02:07it all will come with experience
02:10and time and obviously
02:11guys is a little bit different just physicality
02:14wise and the fact that at 18
02:16he's making third round of slams
02:17and doing the things that he's done especially
02:19being on the
02:22male side of things where
02:24I think it's a little bit bigger of a
02:26physicality gap between 18 and 23
02:28than on the women so
02:29I'm very excited to see where
02:31he'll be in a few years and
02:33I guess just knowing sometimes
02:35you want the results like right now and
02:37you don't realize like how
02:39much you can improve in those years
02:41so I'm sure that other people around
02:43him make him aware of that.
02:44I think I mean obviously the shortcut is
02:50make shortcut is being talented like
02:52just naturally talented that would be
02:54the shortcut which he already
02:57kind of has that shortcut so
02:58I guess when it comes to yeah those later moments
03:00making quarters semis and finals of
03:02big tournaments for sure I think it's more
03:04so an experience thing too.
03:06Well done Coco.
03:09How do you compare this
03:12run to the quarterfinals to
03:14other years when you've gotten
03:17this far in this tournament
03:19and sort of I guess 22
03:21last year obviously 22
03:23my memory doesn't go back
03:27yeah me too
03:28yours probably
03:28to be honest
03:29same
03:29so like
03:30but if you could
03:32it talked through
03:33I mean I'm sure you remember 22
03:34and I'm sure you remember last year
03:36so
03:36yeah
03:36how you're feeling
03:38and what's different
03:40and what's gotten better or worse
03:41or more confusing
03:43yeah I think
03:44they feel very similar
03:46I think I think I'm more
03:48less nervous going into matches
03:49for sure
03:50and knowing just the ups and downs
03:53of tennis
03:54and of a tennis match
03:55but they feel kind of similar
03:57I felt like
03:58I was
03:59I still feel like
04:01the years here
04:02I feel like I get better with each match
04:03and I felt like that was something
04:05that I did in 22
04:06and last year as well
04:08and something I'm doing here
04:10right now
04:10so
04:11yeah
04:11I think if I can keep
04:13just making those details
04:14a little bit better
04:15hopefully I can do even better
04:18than I did last year
04:19I just wanted to ask about
04:23the weather here
04:24it's very up and down
04:26I mean Friday it was 29
04:27today it was a bit chilly cloudy
04:30I saw you put your leather jacket on
04:31at the end
04:32is that something difficult to deal with
04:35or is it something you just
04:36you just blank out
04:37yes and no
04:38I think like the first day here
04:40it was honestly
04:41I think the worst I felt
04:42on the court
04:43since the clay season
04:44just so windy
04:45cold
04:45the ball wasn't going anywhere
04:47and then obviously
04:48the week has gone on
04:49it's been hot
04:50and today was cooler
04:51so just flirting with tension
04:52and honestly it is
04:55it feels like a different tournament
04:56sometimes depending on the weather
04:58so
04:58but it's something you expect here
05:00playing this tournament
05:01and these conditions
05:02so yeah
05:03I think just taking it
05:04day by day
05:05and you know
05:06the more experience
05:07I get playing here
05:08the more you kind of
05:09feel like the days
05:10you know
05:11maybe this day
05:12felt similar to
05:13how it felt last year
05:14and so just the more
05:16you play
05:17the more you can kind of
05:18relate those feelings
05:19to other experiences here
05:20Hi again
05:21sorry
05:21do you want to follow up
05:22something you said before
05:23about when you're coming through
05:24and you're losing to players
05:25that you kind of know
05:26or think that you're better than
05:27just wondering kind of
05:28how frustrating that is
05:30how you kind of process that
05:31um
05:32yeah
05:33and it can be frustrating
05:34sometimes when you feel like
05:35you can't
05:36you know
05:36you're not showing up
05:37to execute
05:37especially against people
05:39you've
05:39you know
05:40there's those matches
05:41that you feel like
05:42if you could just get
05:43one or two points
05:44that it could definitely
05:44go your way
05:45and just play a little bit better
05:46um
05:47but you know
05:48I think it's definitely
05:49better having that feeling
05:50than when you finish
05:51than having the feeling
05:52like
05:52like she's just
05:53way better than me
05:54so um
05:55yeah
05:55I think it's definitely
05:56I prefer that
05:57to have that feeling
05:58it's probably really frustrating
05:59but you know
06:00sometimes you
06:01you know
06:01I don't want to be in
06:02ever put in the position
06:03where you just feel like
06:04oh my gosh
06:04she's just
06:05way better than me
06:05and there's a lot to do
06:06and it has happened
06:07but um
06:08not too often
06:09hi Calco
06:12congrats
06:12thanks
06:13what a great tournament
06:15what a great tournament
06:15for Americans
06:16can you share
06:18any fun moments
06:19or interesting moments
06:20you've had
06:20with some of the players
06:22or just comment
06:24on this surge
06:25and great results
06:26yeah
06:26um
06:27I guess I'll start
06:28with like Haley
06:29I've known her for
06:30since I was like
06:3111
06:3212 years old
06:33I think we've played
06:33doubles
06:34once or twice
06:35in juniors
06:36and um
06:37you know
06:38our parents
06:38know
06:39our
06:39know
06:40our friends
06:40and um
06:41I've known her
06:42for forever
06:42so it's great
06:44just to see her
06:44doing well
06:45and um
06:46you know
06:46I feel like
06:47at the level
06:47that she should be
06:48and obviously
06:49she will continue
06:50to be better
06:50um
06:51and then
06:52Maddie
06:53um
06:53I've known her
06:54for a long time
06:55and I remember
06:56um
06:56I think it was
06:57maybe Miami Open
06:58I was shadowing her
06:59kind of as a junior
07:00um
07:00they let me like
07:01shadow her
07:02and I sat
07:02at one of her
07:03Kindness Wins
07:04um
07:05foundation events
07:06and things like that
07:07so I don't even know
07:07if she remembers that
07:08but yeah
07:09and then
07:10obviously Jess
07:11a lot of memories
07:12of her
07:12playing doubles
07:13on the court
07:13um
07:14so yeah
07:15and that's all I can
07:16think of
07:16on my half of the draw
07:17I don't know
07:18who's on the top half
07:19of that
07:19that's American as well
07:20but it's just awesome
07:21to see us all doing well
07:22and um
07:23kind of all in different
07:24stages of our career
07:25too
07:26which is uh
07:27very exciting
07:28so yeah
07:28I'm looking forward
07:29to whoever I play
07:30in the next match
07:31and uh
07:32glad to be representing
07:33and hopefully
07:34you know
07:34a lot of girls
07:34can be inspired by us
07:36oh yeah
07:38I guess the men too
07:39um
07:39yeah
07:40Francis
07:41I mean
07:42there's so many
07:43with Francis
07:43I guess recently
07:44you know
07:44him giving me crap
07:45about my rackets
07:46and stuff
07:46so
07:47that's the most recent thing
07:48but um
07:50and then Tommy
07:51I've
07:51I've known him
07:53since I've been on tour
07:54and he's
07:55you know
07:55how he is on court
07:56very chill
07:57very calm
07:57chill guy
07:58uh
07:59you know
08:00I see him in Florida
08:00all the time
08:01with his pickup truck
08:02and um
08:03I guess my funny memory
08:04is him like
08:05literally doing cardio
08:06on the track
08:07like looking like
08:08he's dead
08:09and then
08:09just seeing him
08:11with fishing rods
08:11on the back
08:12of his truck
08:12going to go straight
08:13to the ocean
08:14to go fish
08:14and I'm like
08:15how are you
08:15have energy
08:16to be on the water
08:18for six hours
08:18but he's as
08:19uh
08:20as country
08:21as I
08:21it gets
08:22I think
08:22when it comes
08:23to tennis players
08:23that I know
08:24so
08:30this isn't actually
08:31the question
08:31I was going to ask
08:32but on Francis
08:33he was just in here
08:34yesterday
08:34and he said
08:35he enjoyed
08:35finally seeing you
08:36after the racket incident
08:37and rinsing you
08:38for it
08:39I think the words
08:40he used
08:40was you were shaking
08:41out your bag
08:41like it was
08:42an empty cookie jar
08:43so I'm just curious
08:45like do you
08:46like are you just
08:46going to have to
08:47take that now
08:47and just let him
08:49have his moment
08:50or do you still
08:50have any more
08:51ammunition on him
08:52yeah I honestly
08:54didn't
08:54I literally told him
08:55I was like
08:56from you
08:56like I expected
08:57it from you
08:58it's like okay
08:59but the fact
08:59that it happened
09:00to me
09:00because I
09:01I feel like
09:02I'm a professional
09:03person
09:03and yeah
09:04just that
09:06usually I am someone
09:07if anybody knows me
09:08I'm someone
09:08that can find
09:09a comeback
09:09real quick
09:10even if I'm wrong
09:11I'm one of those
09:11people that will
09:12still defend myself
09:13and I don't like
09:14losing arguments
09:14but that one
09:15like he was
09:15I just had to take it
09:17I just learned
09:17that I had nothing
09:18to say
09:19especially because
09:19I gave him
09:20a lot of crap
09:20for it
09:21and then not even
09:22like six months
09:23later I did the
09:23same thing
09:24on an even
09:25bigger stage
09:25so yeah
09:27but I've learned
09:28my lesson
09:28and hopefully
09:29it won't happen
09:30again
09:30and just in general
09:32this has obviously
09:33been a really
09:34consistent period
09:34for you
09:35two big finals
09:36and then here
09:36quarters
09:37just what has
09:38kind of helped
09:39you to be able
09:40to kind of put
09:40out such a high
09:41level kind of
09:42day after day
09:42yeah I think
09:43just honestly
09:44fighting for
09:45each match
09:46and each point
09:47because you know
09:48I've learned
09:48in the last
09:49two tournaments
09:50especially in
09:50Roma Madrid
09:51losing the opening
09:52set in the first
09:53round of both
09:53of those tournaments
09:54and making the final
09:55it just shows
09:56that you gotta
09:56keep fighting
09:57for every match
09:58and keep fighting
09:59for every point
09:59because anything
10:00can happen
10:01in a tournament
10:01so I think
10:03if I want to be
10:04more consistent
10:05on tour
10:06I think that's
10:06something I have
10:06to continue
10:07to do
10:08so Tamani
10:10stole part
10:12of my question
10:12but we need
10:14a direct response
10:15to his saying
10:16that he
10:17Francis describing
10:19you as
10:19little miss
10:20mature
10:20okay
10:21is that
10:24who you are
10:25I mean
10:27I get that a lot
10:28I definitely
10:28for sure
10:29feel like
10:29sometimes
10:30when I was junior
10:31especially like
10:32more mature
10:32than maybe
10:33some of my peers
10:34I don't know why
10:35I feel like
10:36I've always been
10:36that when I was
10:37in school
10:38I would always
10:38be the first
10:39one to class
10:40I remember
10:41getting on the
10:42yellow for the
10:42behavior chart
10:43once and
10:44that was like
10:45the worst day
10:45of my life
10:46and so yeah
10:47I'm definitely
10:47someone that
10:48prides myself
10:49in being a good
10:50example
10:51I think it's
10:51because I have
10:52two younger
10:52brothers and I
10:53feel like I
10:53have to be
10:54that example
10:54but yeah
10:55I mean
10:56it is true
10:57I'm not going
10:57to argue with
10:58that most people
10:58do say I'm
10:59mature
10:59and I don't
11:01know I feel
11:01like maybe just
11:02playing tennis
11:02it forces you
11:03to grow up
11:04faster
11:04for some
11:05people
11:06maybe not
11:06him
11:06but yeah
