00:45Question?
00:47On a few times where you could have gotten back in that third set later
00:56Just what do you think was happening on those
00:57On those shots that didn't go your way
01:00Yeah, I mean it was tough, it was windy
01:02She was hitting a lot of just like really high balls
01:04Low slices and you know
01:06You have to commit to your shots
01:08And if you don't commit then you miss them
01:10Or maybe she gets a chance to be offensive
01:12And it was just like I was kind of walking that line
01:15Like the entire match
01:16But specifically even more kind of at the end of the second
01:20And end of the third
01:21And yeah, I mean I guess I could have been maybe a little bit more aggressive
01:25But at the same time, you know, you're trying to make her play
01:27And stuff like that
01:29So it's kind of like that back and forth battle
01:31Kind of going on in your head
01:32Tough luck
01:35When you're playing a player that's sort of inexperienced
01:40Hasn't been up here before
01:42I imagine you haven't seen much video of her
01:45Or could do much scouting of her
01:47Because she's so unknown
01:48What sort of challenges does that present to you
01:52And what did it present to you?
01:55Yeah, I mean I think you just don't know too
01:57Maybe like how they're going to play
01:58In the pressure moments or big points as much
02:00But I think we had enough like footage of her
02:03I mean she's won several matches here
02:05So we had a pretty good idea
02:06Of what was going to happen
02:08So it's not like I was surprised by any chance
02:12But I think it always makes it a little difficult
02:14Because they just don't have a ton of matches
02:16And you know, you maybe don't know
02:18You know, how they're playing certain points
02:20Or certain matches a certain way
02:22Or you know, how they play against certain players
02:24And stuff like that
02:25But I felt like this week
02:27We kind of had a pretty good idea to be honest
02:29And can I just follow up and ask you
02:31Like, so how do you size her up
02:32And what did surprise you about what she brought to the court?
02:36I mean, I honestly don't think I was that surprised
02:39By how she played
02:40I felt like the match turned into exactly how she wanted to play
02:44And that's unfortunate for me
02:48I think I did a good job in the first set
02:50But at the same time, she definitely, you know, served better
02:52I felt like the first set, she missed every drop shot
02:55And then the second and third, she made every single one
02:57And I didn't really do a good job with those points
03:00But I felt like she honestly played how I thought she would play
03:05You know, look for forehands
03:06Hit super high, super heavy
03:08You know, at times
03:11And again, I had like a million chances
03:13And it just didn't go my way in those kind of big moments
03:16You said this a bit in your opening answer
03:22Just I think this is your first time playing a French player here
03:24And obviously in that kind of close match to the atmosphere
03:26So just what was it like as a cultural experience?
03:30Yeah, I mean, I think once the match kind of got going
03:32At the beginning, it wasn't that much
03:34But then, you know, end of the second and the third
03:36It was like a full stands
03:38And obviously for her
03:39So, I mean, it was a great atmosphere
03:41And, you know, like I said
03:42I didn't feel like they were being disrespectful at all
03:45I felt like it was a really fun and good atmosphere
03:49You know, obviously for her
03:51But at the same time, it was great
03:53I thought it was really nice
03:54Hey, Jessica
03:56Could you describe her heavy forehand?
04:02I think it's maybe her strength here
04:05Yeah, I mean, all she wants to do is hit forehand
04:07So she's really good at moving
04:10I mean, she's really fast
04:11So she's really good at running around to get her forehand
04:14And, you know, also covering the forehand side
04:18And, yeah, she hits it pretty heavy
04:20I mean, it's super high and heavy when she wants to
04:25When she needs to get back in the point
04:26And then she's able to kind of use her drop shot and slice
04:29And she's really quick
04:31So I think it keeps her in a lot of points
04:34And I think she did that really well today
04:35Hi, Jessica
04:37Have you been impressed by your opponent's performance today?
04:41And what level do you think she can reach in the future?
04:47Yeah, I mean, again, she played really well
04:49She's, I think, won a lot of matches
04:51It seems like recently
04:52Even if it's at a lower level
04:53And not at a WTA level
04:55But it doesn't really matter when you're winning matches
04:57And the way she plays
04:58You know, being tough in those moments really helps
05:02So I thought she did a good job of that today
05:04And, yeah, I mean, she plays like that
05:08I mean, I think she'll do well
05:09Especially on the clay
05:10I don't know how she does on other surfaces
05:12I have no idea
05:13But I would imagine clay is definitely going to be her best surface
05:17Hi
05:18So at the clay court season over
05:21Since you live in the U.S., you know, clay court season
05:26It's kind of a little bit long away away from your home
05:30And I know you have been doing this for a long
05:34But this year we have like a back-to-back two weeks
05:37Masters tournament Madrid and Rome
05:40So can you talk a little bit about that
05:42How that kind of, you know, road is tough for you
05:46Or it doesn't matter for you or not?
05:49No, yeah
05:50I'm not a fan of the two-week tournaments
05:52I think it makes everything super really long
05:55Grand Slams is already really long
05:57And so now to do two weeks Madrid, two weeks Rome
06:00And then, you know, two weeks here is really, really tough
06:03But, you know, that's the way it is now
06:06And, of course, it's always better when you're winning a lot of matches
06:08Because the days and the weeks go by much faster
06:11If you're losing, you know, somewhat early or in the first week
06:14And then you're seeded and you don't play until really late in the next week
06:17That can be kind of tough, you know
06:19It just gets tough being on the site
06:21And traveling in between tournaments
06:23And you're just kind of Groundhog Day
06:26Trying to train, you know, the usual
06:29But I feel like it kind of depends on how you do
06:32It's been a little tough, I guess, this year for me
06:35Because Madrid and Rome didn't go, like, particularly amazing
06:39You know, I won some matches
06:41But, again, the weeks kind of in between get kind of long
06:44Which is why I played, you know, Strasburg
06:47But it's a tough kind of stretch for the Americans, for sure
06:52Hi, Jessica
06:55I have another question about her forehand
06:57I was just looking at the stat
06:58And you played a lot of ball in her forehand
07:01Much more than the previous opponent
07:04I was just wondering if it was a tactic for you
07:07Maybe to go on the forehand
07:08And to finish a point on the other side on the backhand
07:11Was it a tactic?
07:12I don't know
07:13Maybe that was my problem
07:14Because that's not really what I was trying to do
07:19But, I mean, she makes it really tough
07:21You know, when she's hitting high and heavy
07:23It's not that easy to change the direction back to her backhand
07:27So, you know, if you kind of got stuck
07:29I was trying to, like, you know, move her to the forehand
07:32And then move her to the backhand
07:33Which I thought I did pretty well
07:35Like, for majority of the match
07:37Just, again, not well enough to kind of
07:40On the big points
07:42And when I was getting up in games
07:43It just kind of wasn't doing it
07:44But, yeah, I don't know
07:46Maybe that seems like
07:47Maybe that was an issue
07:48Thanks
07:50Thanks for listening to the forehand
07:54Thanks for listening to the forehand
