00:00BNP Paribas, partenaire des plus belles histoires de Roland Garros, aux côtés des ramasseurs de balles depuis plus de 50 ans.
00:30Just wondered how different the conditions felt today.
00:58Obviously, the sun kind of finally came out compared to your first round.
01:03Yeah, totally different.
01:04It was sunny.
01:05You kind of feel, you know, the sun a little bit today, whereas the last match, it was cold, rainy, you know, roof closed kind of at the end of our match.
01:13So much different.
01:16But, I mean, to be expected in Paris, I feel like every single day is different.
01:19I've played here in so many different conditions.
01:22So happy that it was kind of a nicer day out today.
01:25It always makes things, I feel like, easier.
01:29But it was still pretty windy, which, you know, I haven't played on Chartres in a little bit.
01:34But from my experience, it always is kind of windy.
01:38So it was similar today.
01:40I mean, maybe a little more bouncy, maybe a little more lively, I would say, when the sun's kind of sitting on it.
01:51But I feel like it played good.
01:53It wasn't too fast, wasn't too slow or anything like that.
01:58I think when the sun's not out, the clay kind of stays more wet.
02:00So the balls maybe are a little heavier.
02:02But today, I don't know, it was playing nice.
02:05It was nice conditions today.
02:06Hi, Jessica.
02:08I want to ask you about the nose strip that some players are wearing.
02:12They say that this has improved their breathing.
02:15I was wondering if this is something that you are interested in.
02:18Have you ever tried wearing one?
02:20Do you even consider it?
02:22Yeah, maybe.
02:23I have, like, a horrible deviated septum.
02:25So, like, I can't really breathe out of one side of my nose.
02:28So maybe I should start wearing one.
02:30I think I've seen, I've worn one to, like, sleep before.
02:32It's kind of similar, I think, where it just kind of, like, opens up your nasal passages.
02:37So I don't know if I have the confidence to rock one.
02:41But, yeah, if it helps them breathe, maybe I should consider it.
02:47And performance-wise, do you think this could affect your game?
02:52Yeah.
02:53My old coach would be like, I don't understand.
02:55You can't breathe.
02:55I'm like, yeah.
02:56I just, he's like, isn't that important?
02:57And I'm like, probably.
02:59I don't know.
03:00It's been like that for so long.
03:03I'm sure it probably does, especially for people that, too, like, get sick and have allergies and stuff like that, too.
03:11So, yeah, I've only really seen, what, like, Carlos wear it.
03:14I'm not sure who else is doing it.
03:16But, yeah, maybe it's something I should look into.
03:20I just, far more mundane and boring questions for me.
03:26One is kind of following up on the question before about the conditions.
03:30How much does that factor into how you play in terms of, as you step out on court, you're looking at the conditions and thinking, okay, this means I'm going to do this differently, maybe?
03:45I think it matters a lot.
03:48I think it's something that maybe fans don't notice as much or people that aren't playing maybe don't, are not as aware of or even on TV.
03:56It's kind of hard to see the conditions on TV.
03:59So, I mean, but I think it's something that's really important.
04:01You know, if it's heavier, if it's playing faster, if it's sunny, if it's wet and it's cold, you know, you maybe adjust your tension a little bit.
04:09You adjust your game plan.
04:10And maybe some serves aren't really, you know, working like today, it felt like the kick was kind of bouncing really high where maybe another colder, rainier day, it's not bouncing as high.
04:19Maybe you can't rely on that as much.
04:21So, there's a lot of little things that go into, you know, how the conditions are playing.
04:26And you don't want to change too much.
04:28But I think it's just stuff that's important to be aware of and just, you know, take note of in case, you know, something changes in the match or you need to change something.
04:38But conditions are definitely a big part of the game, I think.
04:42And I wanted to ask if you could look ahead to your next match against Marqueta and what sort of challenges she can present.
04:51Yeah, we haven't played in a while.
04:54I know she likes the clay.
04:56I know it's always tough playing a lefty on clay.
04:58She's kind of got like spinny forehand, really creative on the court and drop shots a lot, has a pretty good serve.
05:06So, it's, I mean, one, nice to see her back playing.
05:09I know she struggled with a lot of injuries at the beginning of the year.
05:12And she's won some good matches and obviously is a finalist here.
05:17So, she obviously, you know, knows how to play good tennis here at Roland Garros.
05:21So, I think that's going to be the trickiest part for me.
05:25But, yeah, I mean, we haven't played each other in a little while and haven't played on clay.
05:28So, it'll be interesting as the first time.
05:34Hi, Jess.
05:35Question about diet.
05:36I'm curious if you're a player that considers yourself to be strict with your diet.
05:40And if so, what do you do to maintain, like, your nutrition week in, week out when you're going to all of these cities where they eat so well?
05:50Yeah, that's really hard.
05:51I think it's a little bit different in tennis because we don't have a lot of, like, wins as far as, like, we're traveling every single week.
06:00And it's really hard to try and be super strict every single week.
06:04So, I do think maybe we cheat a little bit more than other sports.
06:08But it's because it's, like, the only thing we have.
06:11Like, you know, it's, like, you have all these things going on.
06:14You're traveling.
06:15You're taking out of your element every single week.
06:16And sometimes the things that keep you sane is, like, going to a good restaurant or finding a good restaurant.
06:22So, I'm not overly strict.
06:25I'm a little less strict in Europe because I feel like the food is a little bit cleaner.
06:29When I'm home, you know, I try not to do a lot of dairy, and I'm usually gluten-free.
06:34I'm not, like, severely allergic, but I do feel better when I don't eat it.
06:38But in Europe, it definitely doesn't affect me as much, so I'm maybe not as strict in that sense.
06:42But I think you just have to keep a good balance because, like I said, we travel every single week.
06:47It's not like there's a certain window where you could be strict.
06:51I mean, if you want to be strict, you'd be strict 11 months out of the year, and that's just, like, kind of insane.
06:55So, I think it's better just to keep a little bit of a balance and definitely try to be stricter during tournaments and, like, lead-up time.
07:05And then maybe after, if you have a few days and you want to kind of cheat or do something really bad, then I feel like that's the time.
07:12But, yeah, I try not to be, you know, too hard on myself.
07:16Is there any meal that you can't resist?
07:19I love french fries, which is not good in Paris.
07:22Not good.
07:24Hello, congratulations.
07:25Thank you.
07:26Having a view of the last two years of your career, and I would like to ask, what have been the key factors that you consider to elevate the level to be really on the top, top?
07:37What did you maybe before not so good, and now you have the key to be performing so well and consistent?
07:46Well, I think over the past year, my serve's gotten a lot better.
07:49You know, I feel like I can hit a lot more different serves, and obviously it doesn't mean I serve well every single time, but I definitely have way more confidence in my serve and getting free points.
08:01I think even today I served really well at the end of the second set and was able to get myself out of some big moments, and that's something I think the top players do really well.
08:08So that's something I've worked on a lot and I think has gotten better.
08:12And the other thing I would say is my movement.
08:14I think I've gotten a little bit better moving, worked on my footwork, and just kind of in and out of the corners a little bit better.
08:23You know, I always thought I moved, like, pretty decent, but I think just kind of tightening that up has gotten a lot better.
08:30So I would say, you know, the serve and the movement are things I think I've improved on.
08:40I just want to, sorry, just keep going about conditions, but what the biggest difference is here compared to the other clay court events, condition-wise?
08:46I mean, there's not much difference.
08:49They're kind of all the same.
08:51It's Europe during clay court season, which can be a very nice, beautiful day, freezing, cold, rainy, windy day.
08:58So I think it's kind of similar in that sense.
09:02I would say, obviously, Madrid has a lot of altitude.
09:06Maybe the conditions don't matter as much there because the courts are almost kind of like an indoor feeling.
09:11I think the courts here are also really good, so the weather doesn't affect the play as much.
09:19Or maybe if you're playing another tournament where, you know, the clay isn't as well kept, you know, a lot of rain might, like, really kind of destroy them a little bit.
09:27So maybe the courts, you know, more bad bounces, kind of not going anywhere as much.
09:32So I think here, you know, the courts hold up really well.
09:36They do an amazing job with them, so that helps a lot.
09:39I do have another quirky question.
09:42I'm sorry.
09:44I've seen online that you had a short trip in the Paris metro yesterday.
09:48Yes, I did.
09:49So I was wondering about your experience on that, and did anyone recognize you on the metro?
09:53Nobody recognized me.
09:56Nobody recognized me at all.
09:58Nobody cared in that sense.
10:00It was definitely very nice, very clean, a lot more relaxed than when I took the subway in New York.
10:06That's, like, an experience.
10:07It's a lot of entertainment.
10:10Paris, it was really easy, super chill, very clean.
10:13I didn't have to go that far.
10:15Yeah, it was a good experience.
10:17So we'll see.
10:18I'm going to see if I can maybe take some players or something and kind of do a couple of those in the future and see if, just see what happens.
10:25Get everybody taking the metro.
10:27Thanks.
10:29Thanks.
10:30I'm going to see if I can't see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can
