00:00Welcome back to Ireland in view. You are most welcome.
00:04Visitors ask how long should we stay in Dublin.
00:07Let's show you five top attractions you decide most will fly into Dublin airport and leave the same way.
00:15Dublin really is what you make it.
00:17It has a character that the rest of Ireland doesn't have.
00:20Dublin has hugely changed over recent years.
00:23It has modernized and to some extent hasn't lost some of its old-fashioned charm.
00:28That said, with a small population in the city compared to other European capitals of close on 1 million people,
00:35it has a good public transport system and is a walkable city.
00:39There are some 25 visitor attractions in the city.
00:43Let's show you five of the best.
00:45In an earlier video, we showed the hop-on-hop-off buses in Dublin and they are a great way of seeing the sights easily.
00:52If you are short of time, we really have to start with Trinity College.
00:56Built to resemble Oxford and Cambridge universities in England and created in 1592 by Royal Charter from Queen Elizabeth I.
01:05It receives over 2 million visitors every year and holds the Book of Kells dating to 800 and the Brian Boru harp, amongst other things.
01:14Brian Boru, who was the earliest known member of the O'Brien clan of today.
01:18Online booking is advisable most of the year.
01:22By the way, if you are enjoying our videos where we look at Irish life today, can we ask you to follow, subscribe and share?
01:29It helps us reach a larger audience.
01:32Number two on our list has to be the Guinness Storehouse at the St. James Gate Brewery, which attracts over 1 million visitors annually.
01:40It opened in the year 2000 and again, you need to book it online.
01:45As an experience, it looks at the brewing process, the history of Arthur Guinness, the founder, and their most famous advertising campaigns.
01:54Throughout the years, the storehouse covers seven floors and on the seventh is the Gravity Bar with 360-degree views of the Dublin cityscape.
02:02It has every nationality you will see there, sampling the Guinness and trying to figure out where their hotel is in the distance.
02:10Many famous people have visited over the years.
02:13Probably the most famous would have been the Duke of Edinburgh, from the United Kingdom United States President, Bill Clinton, and Australian singer and actress, Kayleigh Minogue.
02:23Included in your ticket, which is on your phone, is a pint of Guinness, and we can tell you, it's beautiful.
02:29Next up, in keeping with the alcohol theme, is the Temple Bar area.
02:34Temple Bar is a major attraction for foreign visitors, and the Temple Bar pub draws visitors like a magnet.
02:40You will find a few Dubliners there, but in general, they have their own watering holes in other areas.
02:46It has a lively buzz, and the pubs are all packed mostly, at weekends.
02:50Visitors will find fast food outlets, a few hotels, like the Morgan, the Morrison, or the Temple Bar Hotel, the Hard Rock Cafe, and Smoking Bones.
03:00Other pubs are the Oliver St. John Gogarty and the Porter House.
03:04While Temple Bar is not for everyone, for those wanting to party, it has its place.
03:10Be warned, though, it can make a huge hole in your purse or wallet.
03:13A pint of Guinness at just under 10 euro is probably the most expensive pint in Ireland.
03:19Walk a few yards further on, towards South William Street or off Grafton Street, and prices will drop, so that's a choice to make.
03:27If you like historic building, this next one has to be seen.
03:30St. Patrick's Cathedral, dating from 1122 to 1159, is an 800-year-old building, and is the most important religious site in Ireland on Patrick Street, Dublin.
03:42It's run by the Church of Ireland, and has an enormous program of events based around the religious calendar.
03:49The architecture is truly stunning, and the sound quality truly amazing.
03:54You might also be amazed by how they also use the cathedral as a place to host musical event by candlelight, such as the music of U2.
04:03Taylor Swift and Vivaldi are just a few.
04:06You can get tickets online, and as always, we will have descriptions in the comments below.
04:10The cathedral is within walking distance of Christchurch, a few hundred meters up the street, where you can also see some breathtaking architecture, and view the dark and eerie secrets of the Christchurch crypt buried below the church.
04:24Finally, another of Dublin's oldest building, Dublin Castle, the nerve center of British power in Ireland for 800 years.
04:31Built in the late 12th century by the English King John to secure his territory in Ireland, it was bounded by the rivers, Liffey and Pottle, now underground, on a raised site overlooking the lower valley.
04:43The ornate state rooms are open to the public, and tours can be paid for on the day.
04:48The castle has had a brutal history, and a pivotal role in Irish events that have shaped our history to this day.
04:55It was used as an intelligence center to counter the War of Independence from 1919 to 1921.
05:02It was the setting for the formal handover of British rule in January 1922 to Michael Collins and the Free State Government.
05:10It has seen foreign dignatories from King George V and Queen Mary in 1911 to Queen Elizabeth II in 2011, United States presidents including JFK, Nixon, Clinton, and Biden.
05:22So you can see its historic past, and if you want to visit, we will put a link to the website in the description.
05:29If you have gotten this far, thanks for watching.
05:32We will have more videos shortly on what to see and enjoy in Ireland.
05:36If you have enjoyed, can we ask you to subscribe, share, and follow.
