00:00Welcome back to our channel where we shine a spotlight on visiting Ireland today.
00:04You are very welcome.
00:05Here are the definitive do's and do not's that will smooth your vacation trip and make it more enjoyable.
00:11Remember, it's the simple things that catch you out.
00:14This is our second up-to-date must-know video.
00:17The good news is there are 2,850 more hotel rooms across Ireland for 2025.
00:24So more locations to stay and potentially cheaper rates too.
00:27But tip number one, book your hotel in advance.
00:30The days of winging it are gone.
00:32This applies particularly if big name acts are performing or there is a major GAA or football game in the capital.
00:40Tip number two, leaving Dublin airport and waiting for a taxi keep a warm coat handy.
00:45The taxi rank is covered but exposed so wind chill early in the year and winter will be an issue.
00:50Thirdly, taxis are the most expensive way to get from the airport to your city center hotel.
00:55Try AirCoach or the Dublin Bus Airport Shuttle and you will find these much cheaper, particularly Dublin Bus.
01:02Allow about an hour depending on time of day.
01:05If you are hiring a car, the airport has a number of car hire companies available close to the terminal.
01:10By the way, we hope you are enjoying and getting the information to visit Ireland that you wanted.
01:15Please share, like and follow and leave any comments and questions that you might have.
01:21We have ourselves and two very hungry cats to feed.
01:25Fourthly, if you arrive off the Red Eye in the early hours, you can get the full Irish breakfast in some eateries.
01:31O'Shea's Merchant Bridge Street is a good one.
01:34By the way, if you are visiting from America and consider tipping in a restaurant, the culture is totally different.
01:40Our waiting staff are paid a wage and instead of making up their wage, our tips are more to thank for good service.
01:47Tipping percentage is usually around 5 to 10 percent.
01:50Five.
01:51If you have hired a car and feel unsure about driving, don't panic.
01:56Driving on the left is easier than you think.
01:58Dublin is not easy to navigate, so you will need a good person in the shotgun seat.
02:02Google Maps are quite good, but occasionally, as recently it was slow to update the Dublin city road changes,
02:08We have toll roads, so be prepared to pay cash in euros, unless your car hire company has this set up automatically.
02:16There are no toll roads in Northern Ireland.
02:18Speed limits in the Republic are in kilometers per hour.
02:22The maximum speed is 120 km per hour on motorways.
02:26In Northern Ireland, they use miles per hour with a maximum of 70.
02:31If you are on the Wild Atlantic Way, download Google Maps or buy a hard copy map.
02:38Coverage in parts of Cork and Kerry can be sparse.
02:41Don't always trust Google Maps fully.
02:44Also be aware of travel distances and timings.
02:47Motorways are quick to get around, but once off these highways, the smaller back roads tend to be slow.
02:52We have a video of a 14-day round Ireland tour with destinations and rough timings between each destination, which may help you.
03:01That's on our playlist.
03:02If you can drive an American freeway, you can drive anywhere.
03:067. Our hotels are classified 3, 4 and 5 star.
03:103 being the basic and 5 the luxurious, so don't expect the 3 star hotels to have 5 star facilities.
03:17The room rate will reflect this in the cost.
03:20Some hotels are pet-friendly if you have the mutt with you.
03:238. Dublin is a walkable city, but it also has a good transport system of buses and trams.
03:30The tram system, the Lewis, is regular and easy to use.
03:33Buy a ticket at the boarding stage or buy a leap card at any newsagent where you will find travel costs are discounted with the card compared to cash.
03:42You can use these cards on all modes of transports except taxis.
03:46If you have no card buses, only take change.
03:50Notes cannot be used.
03:539. Taxis by law are required to take credit or debit cards despite what the odd driver might try and tell you.
04:00Each driver has a unique license number which is displayed on the dashboard of the car.
04:05Fares will change with time of day or weekends.
04:08All taxis are metered.
04:10Make sure your meter is only switched on when you get into the cab.
04:1310. If you're only in Dublin for a short stay, we recommend the best way to see the city is the hop-on-hop-off buses.
04:22They travel the city stopping at each destination, leaving you to explore, and another bus in half an hour to take you to the next attraction.
04:30Their routes cover all the major attractions in the city. Check them out.
04:3411. What are our pubs like?
04:36Well, we do have over 700 in the city.
04:39We have another video highlighting some of our best pubs.
04:42Some pubs are good for traditional music, such as the oldest pub in Dublin, the Brazen Head, or O'Shea Merchants on Bridge Street, or O'Donohue's on Marion Row.
04:51Nightlife for many visitors centers on Temple Bar, a district famous for its diversity, but be warned it is expensive, and there are better value places within a five-minute walk.
05:01Dubliners themselves tend to avoid Temple Bar, but when you are there, you will meet different nationalities from all over the world.
05:09There is a certain fun to that.
05:11Pubs to eat include O'Neill's Suffolk Street, the Portobello Pub Richmond Street, Brazen Head, and O'Shea Merchants Bridge Street.
05:20If you want to meet Dubliners, have a look at our 10 best pubs in Dublin video.
05:25Finally, tip 12. What to wear on a trip to Ireland.
05:28We would suggest traveling as light as possible.
05:31Use light layers that can be put on quickly or removed quickly.
05:36In midsummer, temperatures get up to about 75 Fahrenheit or 25 centigrade, with night temperatures in July dropping to 15 centigrade or 59.
05:48Nighttime winter temperatures in January can be as low as minus 5 centigrade or 23 Fahrenheit.
05:55Daytime around 10 centigrade or 50 Fahrenheit.
05:58That's it for this video.
06:00We hope you got something from it that you wanted.
