00:00What was your initial thoughts?

00:05Well, I mean, I get it.

00:09They were kind of screwed.

00:11Because, you know, there aren't a lot of organizations

00:14that can keep hitting the reset button on quarterback.

00:18Really, the Niners are about the only one

00:20that's been able to successfully do it, right?

00:22They go from Jimmy G to trying to hand the reins

00:26to Trey Lance to finding Brock Purdy.

00:30And they have stayed in contention pretty much throughout.

00:34Have they had a couple of down years throughout this, you know,

00:37seven, eight-year run that they've been on?

00:39Sure, they have.

00:41But there aren't other organizations that would be able to deal with

00:46trading away three first-round picks for a guy

00:49and having him barely play.

00:51Now, probably, it's showing up a little bit in their lack of depth.

00:56But, I mean, what were you going to do?

00:59Let him walk after this year?

01:01No.

01:02So, in order for him to accept an agreement,

01:06they had to go in the $50 million range.

01:09And we can all sit here and say,

01:11well, I wouldn't pay Brock Purdy more than $40 million a year.

01:15Well, you're not in that position where you can see a quarterback,

01:19starting quarterback, in this sort of system walk away.

01:23Will it have its pitfalls?

01:25Possibly.

01:26But I think they were kind of up against it.

01:30Sounds like you don't like the deal.

01:31Is that true?

01:33Not that it's no.

01:34I'm not going to say I don't like the deal.

01:36I don't think that the NFL has figured out how to properly value guys who aren't elite.

01:42So, the hardest thing to do in this sport is find the right guy under center, right?

01:48We can all agree on that.

01:50But there are so few Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow.

01:56Then we even have a tough time figuring out, like,

01:58who's the fifth best quarterback in the league.

02:01And some people will say, well, I'll take Jalen Hurts.

02:05And some people will say, well, Jalen Hurts can't do anything without A.J. Brown

02:09and Devontae Smith and Daquan Barkley and one of the great offensive lines in the league.

02:15And, you know, that's where the argument goes after those top four guys.

02:19And so, trying to figure out what to pay the next line of quarterbacks

02:24and even the line that's, like, a half step beyond that,

02:27guys that you feel like are good enough to win,

02:30but everything's kind of got to go right.

02:33And so, are they really the guy?

02:36We just haven't figured out how to properly value those dudes.
