00:00Hello this morning, particularly with people from Liverpool, people affected by what went on yesterday, so much in our thoughts.
00:10And if it is affecting you, please do get in touch. Have your say with us this morning and we'll try and reflect that.
00:16Liverpool, and doesn't get credit for this, is or has been in the past a beautiful city.
00:23Amazing buildings.
00:24I mean, when you think of the trade that it was built on, you know, a trading port for around the world.
00:31And it was the first place I ever set foot on in England, in Britain, and that would be the same for so many people.
00:42Because basically the ferry comes out of Ireland, out of Belfast, out of Dublin or whatever, and you set foot in Liverpool.
00:49And so much of Liverpool is Irish.
00:51Did you hang around there for a while, or were you just passing?
00:55I did hang around longer than I expected. I was arrested.
00:58What?
00:59Oh, this has taken a turn.
01:01Yes, yes.
01:02You see, my father, I was 10 or so at the time, I was there with my brother and my father.
01:09We were going to Manchester, Manchester United, for a football game.
01:14But the trouble is, my father didn't have his driving licence with him.
01:18This was like 1972.
01:20Right.
01:20And we were detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, because my father couldn't identify who actually he was.
01:28So that went on for a few hours.
01:31And then we got the train from Lime Street in Liverpool into Manchester, and then the big orange buses in Manchester to Old Trafford.
01:39And we talked about football rivalry, but I don't think, Emily, there is such a thing today when you see the tragedy and the sadness involved for so many people today, celebrating what was a joyous day for so many Red supporters yesterday.
01:55No, I mean, watching the thousands of people there having a wonderful day.
01:59I mean, Jack Carson, our reporter, was there all day.
02:02And then, of course, the story just changed in a moment.
02:06Quite incredible.
02:07Lots of people on social media haven't been able to get in touch with my friend.
02:12I know he was there, my brother, my dad, my sister.
02:15I know they're there, but can't get in touch.
02:17Phone's not working.
02:18I mean, the fear when you hear that a car is ploughed, you think of the absolute worst.
02:23And it's quite incredible, really, that it seems as though, fingers crossed, no one has perished in this.
02:30But I imagine today, Eamon, that we'll find out a little bit more about this 53-year-old British, white British man that the police have identified as the suspect here.
02:41Find out what on earth was going on.
02:43Why, why, why?
