00:00Yeah, I'm just in agony at the minute, mate, so I am.
00:03Yeah, I'm just sort of sitting finally, able to recover.
00:06I was discharged from hospital in Liverpool about 7 in the morning
00:09and had to travel all the way up to Birmingham, so I have.
00:12So, yeah, at the minute, I'm just in a lot of pain at the minute.
00:15I'm just, yeah, still quite traumatised, as you can imagine, about it all.
00:20So, OK, well, if it's all right,
00:23can you just talk me through exactly what happened to you, please?
00:26Yeah, so we had actually, it was me and my partner,
00:30we had actually met up with a couple of people also from Northern Ireland,
00:34so we'll have, and at the end of the parade, once the bus went past,
00:39we were all just sort of walking back up.
00:41I think it was Water Street, and my partner was about 10 yards ahead of me,
00:45so she was, and then I was just taking videos on my phone,
00:49just singing and dancing away with random Liverpool fans,
00:53and then I just heard a bunch of screaming,
00:54and the screaming was my girlfriend screaming for my name
00:59and just loads of screaming from people being hit,
01:01and then once I put my phone down,
01:03the car was basically face-to-face with me,
01:06and then basically what happened was I was, like,
01:10basically in the centre of the bonnet,
01:11and I put my hands up trying to get him to stop
01:13and also to protect myself,
01:15and then I had just about manoeuvred out of the way,
01:17and the driver was able to clip my legs
01:19and just sort of sent me sort of spinning around the place,
01:23and he sustained injuries to my back.
01:25So, Jack, did you make eye contact with this guy?
01:29Did you try and get out of the way, and then he aimed for you?
01:32Mate, to be honest with you, it was all so, so, so quick.
01:35Like, as soon as I put my phone down and realised what was going on,
01:39it was just sort of, you know, life or death sort of,
01:41just trying to survive, you know, get out of the way of this car.
01:44I was able to sort of lock eye contact with him for, like, half a second.
01:48So, it was, and then by that time, he just tried to floor it
01:51and just basically rammed right through me, essentially,
01:54to be honest with you, trying to kill me,
01:56trying to kill everyone else, you know, behind me
01:58and everyone else that he tried to run over.
02:00It's just terrible, to be honest with you, mate.
02:03Yeah, look, hey, I'll just stress again,
02:05at this particular moment in time,
02:06the guy's not been charged with anything.
02:08We obviously have to wait and see how things progress in that sense.
02:12You've made your... You were there.
02:13You looked into the white of this person's eyes
02:15and you've given your account of that.
02:19You know, when you look back at it now,
02:20how do you feel about the police response at the time?
02:23Because we all saw the clips and, you know,
02:26the car eventually comes to a stop
02:28and then it's, like, Liverpool fans and police,
02:31very bravely, by the way,
02:32because you don't know what this guy's got in his car.
02:33You don't know who he is. It could be a bomb. It could be anything.
02:36All trying to swarm this car.
02:37So, are you on the floor at that point, aren't you?
02:40And then people are trying to get this guy out of the car.
02:42What's happening?
02:42So, when I was hit,
02:45I was basically just sort of spying around
02:47and I'd fell into a bunch of people.
02:49And then once I got back up,
02:50the first thing I was looking for was my partner.
02:52So, it was.
02:53And then I heard her screaming.
02:54I was able to find her.
02:56So, it was.
02:56So, as soon as I found her,
02:58I just ran over to her and I gave her a big hug.
03:01And then as soon as the adrenaline wore off,
03:04I just felt the pain straight away in my back instantly
03:06and I started screaming in two hours.
03:08My back's gone.
03:09My back's gone.
03:10And then I just collapsed.
03:11And then as soon as she was able to bring me up,
03:14there was just the response team.
03:16Everyone else to the bouncers that brought me into the bar.
03:19You know, all Liverpool fans trying to help me out.
03:22They were brilliant.
03:23I thought they were.
03:23I thought they were absolutely outstanding.
03:24You know, just giving everyone the help that they need
03:27in an event that happened so, so sudden.
03:31To be honest with you,
03:31I just think the question that everyone's trying to get
03:33is how the car got there in the first place.
03:36As you can imagine,
03:39you know, this could have stopped.
03:42You know, this could have been prevented
03:43if the car hadn't have made its way there.
03:46But, you know, it happened.
03:48And to be honest with you, man,
03:49I'm just trying to think positively that,
03:51you know, I am still here.
03:52You know, I'm still...
03:53I'm able to give you this interview
03:54and I'm obviously able to get back to the other interviews.
03:56I'm still able to go home to them
03:58and buy them a wee son tomorrow.
04:00So I'm just trying to think positively.
04:01So you've got...
04:02Do you mind me asking how old your son is?
04:05He's only three.
04:07Goodness gracious me.
04:08I mean, that must be...
04:11That must have been going through your mind.
04:13I mean, last night,
04:13when I was reporting on it all last night,
04:16and, look, I'll be honest with you,
04:17I was expecting at some point to announce a death toll
04:19and that didn't come...
04:21Yeah, I was expecting it, to be honest with you.
04:23Yeah, there was a lot of...
04:24And to be fair, it probably shouldn't have happened,
04:27but there was a lot of rumours going around
04:28that, you know, that was the case.
04:30But saying that, you know,
04:31you can't really believe everything that you're told
04:33and that, you know, the likes of you guys reported
04:34or the police have told, you know,
04:37the police have came out and said
04:38that there has been a death toll.
04:40But thankfully, thankfully there hasn't.
04:42And I'm just hoping that everyone else,
04:44if there is people still in the hospital,
04:45I'm hoping that they make a speedy recovery.
