Transkrip
00:00Papua is the second largest island in the world after Greenland.
00:07It is part of the Melanesian region which stretches across the Pacific Ocean.
00:13The Papua region is divided into two parts, namely West Papua, which is part of Indonesia,
00:20and Papua New Guinea, which is an independent country.
00:24Papua was formed millions of years ago due to the movement of tectonic plates.
00:30The Indo-Australian plate collides with the Pacific plate,
00:33creating majestic mountains and valleys,
00:36including the Jaya Wijaya mountains, home to Puncak Jaya,
00:40the highest point in Southeast Asia with an altitude of over 4,800 meters.
01:00Did you know that Puncak Jaya was once covered by a glacier?
01:05This proves that Papua has experienced major climate change in its history.
01:12Because Papua was part of the supercontinent Gondwana about 200 million years ago.
01:18When Gondwana broke up, Papua shifted north and became an important part of the tropical biodiversity region.
01:25Because of this, Papua is very rich, geographically and has extraordinary diversity.
01:34Starting from tropical rainforests, highlands,
01:37To the coast and small islands which are rich in coral reefs.
01:47Of course, it is equipped with the life of endemic species in it.
01:51All this makes Papua one of the regions with the highest biodiversity in the world.
01:58Papua is not only rich geographically,
02:01but nature also holds extraordinary riches.

02:39Papua is also rich in mineral resources,
02:42like the grassberg mine is one of the largest gold and copper mines in the world.
02:48However, this exploitation is a challenge for the sustainability of the Papuan ecosystem.
02:53Behind its natural wealth,
02:56Papua is also inhabited by indigenous people
02:58who maintain their traditions and local wisdom.
03:02Like the Jayawijaya Mountains,
03:04Apart from having a glorious peak,

03:22with unique language and culture,
03:25such as the Dani, Asmat and Korowai tribes
03:27are some of them.
03:30There are also many traditional rituals here that are related to nature,
03:34such as a stone burning party for example,
03:36which depicts gratitude for the harvest.
03:39Because they view nature as part of their life,
03:44not only as a natural resource.
