00:00Engaging, affable, loose, extremely confident,
00:02despite the daunting task.
00:04There's no denying the explosive Darchinian
00:07has more experience, a better level of opposition.
00:10But Donair, a face-first, pressure fighter with skills.
00:15But how can he pose problems for the champion?
00:17Well, you know, the feeling is that someday,
00:20one of these fighters that gets in against Darchinian,
00:22who is quick-handed, like Donair is,
00:24who is aggressive, like Donair is,
00:26is going to back him up.
00:28And when that happens, how will Vic Darchinian respond?
00:31The Donair people hope it'll be tight.
00:33A point to be made, though, is Donair is stepping
00:36way up in class from the people he has been against.
00:39And right now, he's responding to the crowd.
00:42Comes off an impressive win on show box
00:44over a quality guy, Cesar Lopez.
00:46And since a stunning first-round TKO loss to Z Gorez,
00:50he's 3-0-1.
00:51An admitted workaholic, just bursting with energy,
00:55told us he recently left his job as a bus driver
00:57for handicapped children to devote full-time
01:00to training for this huge, career-altering fight.
01:15Not your typical southpaw.
01:18He hears it from the crowd.
01:19A lot of fans here for the Lord of the Flies.
01:22Undefeated champion Vic Darchinian,
01:24an awkward, unorthodox power puncher from Armenia
01:28who became an Australian citizen.
01:30He said he'd have thousands of people from Los Angeles,
01:34from the Armenian communities in L.A. here to support him.
01:38To say he is ultra-confident is a colossal understatement.
01:42Now, he asked us in the fighter meeting yesterday,
01:45what round should he knock out Donair?
01:47I think we said, how about the six or seven
01:49to give us at least some time to have some fun.
01:52You know, he is an astonishingly confident guy.
01:55Some would say arrogant.
01:57And, as again, people wonder,
01:59will that get to him at a certain point
02:01where he simply looks past an opponent so much
02:04that he loses?
02:05The question is, will it be tonight?
02:07Well, he's no longer with Jeff Fennec,
02:09the former world champion who was his trainer
02:12after a falling out.
02:13Fennec often said Vic's biggest problem
02:15was overconfidence.
02:16And to this point, he has backed up
02:18almost everything he said he would do.
02:20He insists he'll knock out Donair.
02:2221 of his 26 wins are by KO,
02:25including his last eight fights.
02:36And right now, let's check the numbers
02:38as we go to the tail of the tape.
02:40At 26, Donair is four years younger than Darchinian,
02:43just a slight edge in height for Darchinian,
02:47and a 1 1⁄2-inch reach advantage for the champion.
02:49At yesterday's weigh-in, Darchinian,
02:51right on the mark at 1 12, Donair,
02:54a pound under at 1 11.
02:57Key unified rules for this world title bout,
03:00no standing eight count, no three-knockdown rule.
03:02A fighter cannot be saved by the bell in any round.
03:06If an accidental headbutt causes a fight
03:08to end within four rounds, it's a no decision.
03:10After four, they go to the scorecards.
03:12If a punch causes a cut and the injured fighter
03:14can't continue, he loses by TKO.
03:20So here at the Mandalay Bay Event Center,
03:23we're getting ready for Vic Darchinian

04:33and from Las Vegas, Nevada, Glenn Trowbridge.
04:37Introducing our third man in the ring,
04:39working in this, his 30th world title bout, Tony Weeks.
04:45All right, fans, here we go.
04:4812 rounds of boxing for the IBF and IBO
04:52Flyweight Championship of the World.
04:56Introducing to you first, the challenger on my left.
05:02He is fighting out of the blue corner,
05:04wearing blue trunks and fighting out of San Leandro,
05:07California, by way of General Santos City,
05:11Mindanao in the Philippines.
05:14He weighed in at 111 pounds, with a record of 16 wins,
05:18two losses, and one draw.
05:21He has nine wins, coming by way of knockout.
05:25Please welcome the NABA and NABO champion,
05:29who tonight is making his first attempt at a world title.
05:33Here is the 15th ranked challenger,
05:35known as the Filipino Bomber.
05:38The Filipino Bomber, introducing Glenn Donair.
05:45And his opponent across the ring on my right,
05:53fighting out of the red corner,
05:54wearing black trunks with multicolored trim,
05:57fighting out of Sydney, Australia,
06:00by way of Vanadzor, Armenia.
06:03He weighed in at the flyweight limit of 112 pounds.
06:07He is undefeated in his campaign to the ring,
06:10with 26 wins, no losses, 21 big wins,
06:15coming by way of knockout.
06:17Tonight he is making the fifth defense of his title.
06:20Please welcome the IBF and IBO flyweight champion
06:24of the world, known as the Raging Bull,
06:28introducing Vic Darcinian.
06:35And his opponent, Tony Weeks.
06:38And once again, here's our referee in charge of this bout,
06:42Tony Weeks, now to give instructions.
06:48Okay, gentlemen, you both received your instructions
06:50in your dressing room.
06:51Okay, it goes right here, it's okay.
06:53In the ring, it's gonna be low.
06:54Right here, it's okay.
06:56In the ring, it's gonna be low.
06:57I want a good, clean fight.
06:59Obey my commands at all times,
07:00above all, protect yourself at all times.
07:03And here's Darcinian.
07:12What could be a spicy appetizer, as we've said in the past,
07:15do not be fooled by their physical stature.
07:18Brash, cocky Vic Darcinian,
07:20who brings a puncher's arrogance,
07:22a heavyweight mindset,
07:24one of the heaviest hitters in boxing in any weight class.
07:27Also not lacking for confidence,
07:29Glenn Donair, a hard body puncher,
07:31and all he can do is bang with his left,
07:33to which Darcinian says,
07:34okay, how about I knock you out with my right?
07:39Donair feels that Darcinian struggled to make weight.
07:43Therefore, a steady body attack, he feels,
07:45will weaken the champion,
07:47giving him the chance for the upset.
07:49And that is just conjecture on Glenn Donair's part.
07:52I think, fueled by the fact that Darcinian talks about
07:54how he could go up a couple of weight divisions to fight,
07:57so there's the perception
07:58that he would like to be at a higher weight.
08:02You see that awkward, unorthodox approach
08:05by Vic Darcinian.
08:07What in the world would you call that, Al?
08:09It's a very unique style, it really is.
08:12One that, you know, I'm sure trainers
08:15wouldn't suggest to young fighters to pick up,
08:18but it works for him.
08:20Donair admits Darcinian's dangerous,
08:23but given that he asked to fight Darcinian,
08:26that would make him crazy, he says.
08:28Yet, as he put it, the chance of a lifetime.
08:33These early rounds, very important for Donair
08:36because, as I mentioned,
08:38a great step up in competition for him.
08:42And these early rounds, he's got to get his sea legs under him
08:45and not get hit with something dramatic.
08:48Donair feels one of the keys
08:49is to try to take this as deep as possible,
08:52as he just got tagged with a straight left.
08:55And a good body punch by Glenn Donair.
08:58He's a superb body puncher,
09:00and he throws every one of those with,
09:02uh, with really very, very well.
09:05With evil intentions, he, with conviction.
09:08There's a straight left hand to the neck area by Darcinian.
09:11Those punches are savage.
09:18And Darcinian is just going to town early.
09:23Donair needs to stay busy, outwork Darcinian,
09:27stay cool, but he's got to use angles, Al,
09:30and, you know, he just can't stand right in front of him.
09:32And part of the problem for Donair
09:34is he can't be in that mid-range.
09:35He just got hit with a good straight left hand by Darcinian.
09:38He's either got to be very, very close to him
09:40or giving him angles, as you mentioned.
09:42Darcinian's starting a little faster
09:44than we're used to seeing him start, Steve.
09:46Yeah, he usually sizes up his opponent early on
09:49and then goes in for the finish,
09:51but he is getting right to it here
09:52in the first round.
09:54Both are very hittable.
09:56Darcinian never down, never hurt in 26 pro,
09:59170 amateur fights.
10:01He won 152 of those, 105 knockouts,
10:05representing Armenia at the 2011.
10:08He can take a punch, Darcinian.
10:10He's got a granite chin.
10:12He is a one-dimensional fighter,
10:14but it's a great one dimension.
10:16But you wonder eventually if that will catch up
10:18to him down the road.
10:22Final seconds of round one.
10:25Oh, hard straight left.
10:26Another left hand by Darcinian,
10:28who marches right in on Donair.
10:30Another left hand just before the bell.
10:32And a good finish to the opening round by Darcinian.
10:36Well, Vic Darcinian had a very good first round,
10:39but the one thing Glenn Donair would like to accomplish
10:42is to be able to whack the body.
10:44You see Darcinian not really defending
10:46the face of the opponent,
10:48and that's a big issue for him.
10:50He's got a lot of training to do,
10:51but I think he'd be able to do it.
10:53Darcinian, you're on the other side of the ring.
10:56You're going to use a lot of muscle.
10:58You're going to use a lot of strength.
10:59You're going to use a lot of power.
11:00You're going to use a lot of strength.
11:02And Darcinian is not going to be able to do it.
11:04really defending that very well,
11:07and right in that area
11:09is where the right hand would get in.
11:11Fantastic body shot that literally,
11:13she made an impact on Darchinian.
11:16Now, not enough of that for Glenn Donair to win this round.
11:19Later on in the round,
11:22Darchinian landing those good left hands.
11:25He's so consistent with that punch.
11:27He just keeps throwing it until he lands it,
11:29and I'll tell you, they are very powerful.
11:32Round two, scheduled for 12
11:33for the IBF Flyweight Championship.
11:36Darchinian in the black with the red trim,
11:38a diminutive fighter who poses a gargantuan challenge
11:41for anyone with his stalking, relentless,
11:45bullying style, his thunderous power.
11:47You know, you wouldn't think you could use the word
11:48gargantuan with a flyweight,
11:50but can I tell you, that's appropriate in this case.
11:54Always bring the trusty thesaurus with me,
11:56as Donair and Darchinian trade in the center of the ring.
12:00That's a good left hand to the head by Donair.
12:02This is Glenn Donair. He wants to do this,
12:04but the problem is, you face off against the cannon.
12:08He's getting nailed with big straight lefts.
12:10Thunderous shots by Darchinian.
12:13Donair eating a lot of leather here in the round number two.
12:20A tactical move by Donair
12:22to see if he can move Darchinian back.
12:24Donair, again, trying to go to the body.
12:27That time, Darchinian able to cover up
12:30Donair on his toes. Darchinian more flat-footed.
12:48Now things settle down for the moment,
12:50but it could be the calm before the storm.
12:54Approaching midway round two.
12:57Darchinian flicking the jab, but holds it at that.
13:01It was not there to set anything up.
13:04And, you know, a point here is that
13:06Tony Weeks hasn't had to break these fighters.
13:08Excuse me.
13:09Has not had to break these fighters at all.
13:11That means Donair is not getting on the inside
13:13where he wants to be.
13:14The straight left-right hook combination.
13:16You don't see many of those kinds of combinations
13:18from Darchinian.
13:19Usually, to him, a combination is a left
13:21followed by a left and then another left.
13:24That one was blocked by Donair's glove,
13:26but it looked good to the crowd.
13:29Another one deflected off Donair's glove.
13:36But those punches have some impact, too,
13:38because the glove goes back into your own face.
13:43And he's making Donair miss wildly with the right.
13:47Left uppercut, missed the second one.
13:49Got him.
13:50Darchinian, blasting away with the uppercut.
13:54He had some concern for Donair's uppercut,
13:56but we haven't really seen it yet.
14:01Now Donair, too far away from Darchinian to land.
14:07A straight left hand.
14:08He has tasted a lot of leather so far from Darchinian,
14:11and he is keeping his distance, understandably,
14:15for the time being.
14:16Glenn Donair has not figured out
14:17what punch works against Darchinian,
14:20or punches, and therefore,
14:22he's just not been able to get anything in.
14:24And Donair right now is puzzled.
14:27Ha!
14:28Having difficulty solving the Darchinian puzzle.
14:32Glenn Donair came out in this round
14:34determined to see if he could push Darchinian back
14:37and land something meaningful.
14:38And he engaged in this firefight,
14:40but as you see, most of the good work done by Darchinian.
14:44Left hand gets in by Donair,
14:45but then Darchinian fights it out.
14:47And he's just not been able to land it.
14:49And he's trying to fight it out with a right hand.
14:52He's trying to get it in.
14:53And he's trying to get it out.
14:55Donair is trying to get it in.
14:57He's trying to get it in.
14:58He's trying to get it in.
14:59gets in by Donair but then Darcinian found the range with the straight left
15:02and that was when he drove Donair back and for the most part for the rest of
15:07that round Glenn Donair wasn't willing to engage like this and again was in
15:12that no man's land. Now the footwork is important in this in this match. Glenn
15:17Donair wants to get his foot out there outside Darcinian's right foot. However
15:24for the most part it's been in that posture with the foot on the inside and
15:28that's why that straight left hand landed from Darcinian. Donair is trying
15:35to pull a Rocky Balboa but he's got a long way to go here because it's been
15:42all Vic Darcinian. We're in a round three.
15:47Even though Darcinian dominated in his last fight the win over previously
15:51undefeated Luis Maldonado oftentimes he threw wide looping punches he is really
15:57straightened it out here. Steve you are so correct about that it's a great
16:00observation because when he throws these straight punches he's more powerful and
16:06he's more precise and it's really been excellent for him tonight. Yeah I think
16:12Donair himself was expecting more of those sweeping looping punches so he can
16:16fire the the straight right hand down the middle but it's not there for him.
16:19This is a pretty good right hand by Donair it sends Darcinian back momentarily
16:24What a massive left hand by Darcinian followed by another one.
16:31And you know we talk about occasional defensive lapses by Darcinian but he's
16:36blocking a lot of those right hands by Donair which he just did and slipping some so
16:41we don't want to turn Darcinian into some kind of one-dimensional cartoon
16:45character that can only do certain things because he has more skills. It's
16:50just that he does it in an unorthodox fashion. Left hand there drove Donair back
16:55he's shaking his head at Darcinian as if to say it's not hurting me that one had
16:59to hurt the straight left hand got through the defense. Donair's been down a
17:05couple of times as mentioned Darcinian never pro or amateur. Darcinian just a
17:13take-charge guy in there.
17:21Straight left hand just smacked Donair right on the nose another left hand came from the angle to
17:28Donair's side of the face.
17:39Glenn Donair now reduced to being a boxer he's not so this posture for him
17:46is being chased around the ring here by Darcinian just being backed up.
17:57Darcinian just measuring him out and almost everything that he throws his
18:00landing. And you know Donair is better at a hundred and eight pounds and at this
18:06weight doesn't pack as much power as he might and so some of these punches that
18:11are landing against Darcinian are not having a monstrous effect. He's got a
18:16younger brother 115 pound prospect to one earlier tonight Nonito Donair so
18:22it's all in the family. Sparred with him and he posed as Darcinian against his
18:27older brother Glenn and here's Darcinian really going away towards the end of the round.
18:35Non-stop garage by Darcinian.
18:42Okay Vic this kid this kid is really worried now he's felt your power he's not
18:52gonna fight you Vic okay. Listen Vic he's only gonna.
18:54Listen you can hold that hand up but you can't make contact with him alright.
19:01Vic we're here always the first punch we're hitting him it's a second and
19:05third punch you want to throw. Vic not one punch three and four punches and Vic
19:09he knows you're gonna hit him to the head let's start down to the body more.
19:12Darcinian you see his elbow and he shakes it afterwards landing those good
19:24straight left hands and that one came back and nailed Donair and got him in
19:30the in the face and it drew a complaint from Donair.
19:35Darcinian's longtime assistant trainer Billy Hussain taking over for Jeff
19:39Fennec you saw him on the corner he's the brother of flyweight contender
19:42Hussain Hussain stopped twice by Jorge Arce the man Darcinian really wants but
19:48has just about given up on because he keeps avoiding him. He calls him Jorge Farce.
19:53Arce not a champion right now up a weight class higher than him
19:57campaigning there and many boxing fans believe that would be a wildly exciting
20:01fight. Darcinian feels he can go up a couple of weight classes. I'll tell you
20:05the fight I'd like to see him in. How about Rafael Marquez a couple of weight
20:08classes above wouldn't that be spectacularly exciting? And he's been
20:12sparring with guys two weight classes above him in anticipation of moving up
20:18perhaps but he really loves the belts he wants to unify if possible but nobody is
20:22stepping up to take him on. There's a straight left hand to the nose by
20:26Darcinian and whacks to the body of Donair. Right hand miss the hook is too
20:34looping but Donair couldn't take advantage. Straight left hand to the head by Darcinian.
20:39What many people that step in the ring with Darcinian kind of underestimate is
20:43how quickly those punches can get there. He's not a plotting puncher at all you
20:48know he can throw very quickly with the jab in the straight left hand that's why
20:51even though he's repetitive with that combination it gets in. And that straight
20:55left appears to be extremely heavy. I mean it really has to take its toll one
21:01after another after another. Donair is not stepping his left enough to get out
21:08of the wheelhouse with that straight left hand and what we haven't seen from
21:12Glen Donair that was obvious in other fights are these really good left
21:16hooks to the body in the head. Hasn't put himself in position to throw that punch.
21:21There's a hook but from a very bad position for Donair. Again the Darcinian
21:26not the most polished technically but he throws almost every punch with
21:32conviction and such a rugged approach.
21:38You know you mentioned earlier that he came into this fight Jeff Fennec the
21:42former champion has been training him and they parted ways kind of a strange
21:45way all of a sudden it just kind of happened and I don't think either party
21:50quite understood exactly why the breakup took place but there is no let up in
21:55Darcinian he has picked up the beat and fought very well tonight. Well I asked him
21:59about that he said probably because Hussain's been with him all the way
22:02anyway so he's always been training him in the gym. Fennec would come on for the
22:06most part during the fight. Yeah but Fennec was with him since the 2000
22:11Olympics. You know Donair got inside a moment ago and cranked up some really good left
22:15hooks but then was pushed back and got nailed with big shots again.
22:20Darcinian has Donair down.
22:30Wasn't the left but the right.
22:32That did the deed.
22:35Donair says I'm alright but it happened unfortunately for Donair way near the end of the round.
22:50Are you good already?
22:56Give it a Vaseline bend.
23:02You're gonna lose if you're not fighting inside.
23:04Now we're customizing left hands getting in for Darcinian
23:06but after some good left hands had landed it is a straight right not a hook
23:12really more like a straight jab but it was delivered with great power and
23:16Glenn Donair would go down from it. Just as he predicted Al. Yeah that's exactly
23:21what he said I'll do it with the right hand well he did so Glenn Donair now
23:26facing a lot of issues in this fight and you see the left hand certainly
23:30Darcinian landing them but it would be the right ultimately that would send
23:34Donair down. That was a freight train right hand.
23:38A rock-solid right by Darcinian putting Donair down for the third time in his
23:46career coming in the round five now and Darcinian goes right back at it
23:50flicking the jab.
23:55Everything scoring.
23:58Left hand.
24:00Left hand.
24:06This is scheduled for 12 for the IBF Flyweight Championship.
24:10Darcinian's fifth title defense 26-0 with 21 knockouts.
24:165-0 in world title fights.
24:18He won the belt with 11th round TKO of Irene Pacheco in 04.
24:23All four title defenses by TKO.
24:30The book on Darcinian they say try to back him up back him up but it doesn't seem to work.
24:35It's one of those easier said than done things and that mirrors my score.
24:39I exactly have a 40-35 as do the press roll scoring folks.
24:43No surprise Jeff Haney from the Las Vegas Sun.
24:46Kieran Mulvaney from Reuters and James Smitty Smith from In This Corner.
25:00Victor Darcinian born in Bonazur, Armenia the son of a gas station owner.
25:07Moved to Sydney, Australia became an Australian citizen on the urging of
25:10three-time world champion Jeff Fenning.
25:20Donair is in a very difficult spot now because he's reduced to
25:24trying to be a boxer puncher from the outside not his stock in trade.
25:28Can't get inside because he gets hit with those big straight left hands
25:32every time he tries to pressure Darcinian.
25:36He is game.
25:38You can say that about him.
25:42Right hand blocked by Darcinian.
25:44Darcinian then follows with a left hand.
25:47Another big left.
25:51Boy that head, Donair almost doubled over.
25:54It was so much power behind it.
25:57He goes down to a knee but it's not a knockdown says Tony Weiss.
26:01Donair is trying to time that left hand by Darcinian and counter with his own right.
26:06He's tried several times and it hasn't quite gotten him.
26:09Tony Weiss who repped the first Casamajor-Corrales fight.
26:15That was stopped after round six in favor of Casamajor on a TKO
26:19when the mouthpiece went through Corrales' lip.
26:21How many straight lefts has Vic Darcinian landed in this fight?
26:25Astonishing.
26:28Body shot by Donair.
26:30Unfazed, Darcinian comes right back.
26:32Rolling back.
26:34A flurry by Darcinian just before the bell.
26:48Wait, wait.
26:50Beautiful Vic.
26:54Just breathe brother, control.
26:57Okay Vic, we're going one out again.
27:00Just one punch, one punch.
27:02We're going to hurt the kid, we need more than one punch.
27:05Well we hope you're enjoying our free preview weekend
27:07and we remind you to call 1-888-SHOWTIME
27:10to continue with the great boxing plus movies, original series and special events
27:14only available here on Showtime.
27:20Take us out.
27:23Take us out.
27:25Put him away Vic.
27:27Look, he doesn't want to be there brother.
27:31Shit.
27:34Some confusion there in the Donair corner.
27:36Billy Hussain, the trainer, thinking that he didn't want to continue, but he does.
27:40One knockdown of the fight.
27:42Donair down at the 250 mark, late in round four.
27:45Down from a right hand.
27:48A vicious straight right.
27:52It has been all Vic Darcinian looking to make it 27-0.
27:56This is his fifth title defense of the IBF flyweight belt.
28:00For Darcinian, these fights are all about marketing himself,
28:04trying to demonstrate that a flyweight can be entertaining,
28:07which of course we know they can be,
28:09but sometimes to the casual boxing fan it isn't evident.
28:12Trying to campaign to move up in weight and get important fights for himself.
28:16And he loves it when he has the stage to himself,
28:19as he did in his last fight, the win over Maldonado,
28:22when the third Corrales-Castillo fight was cancelled.
28:27He almost had it alone tonight as well.
28:31It came awfully close, perilously close,
28:34to being the Vic Darcinian show once again.
28:37And obviously at this juncture you want to see him get his wish.
28:41You would like to see him against the RCAs,
28:43some of the other champions in the flyweight division,
28:46like Parra and the like,
28:49and have him get those fights that are meaningful.
28:52Yeah, you had the first thing, I had the last thing.
28:55Yeah, that's right.
28:57But don't ask me to say it again.
29:00Hold off now.
29:10Donair claims his jaw is broken.
29:13Hold it, hold it. Doctor, doctor.
29:15Doctor, doctor, come here.
29:17Stay in there.
29:20He's saying that his...
29:27Stay there.
29:29Can you open and close your mouth?
29:31Does it hurt right there?
29:33If that hurts, then we're going to recommend medically to stop the fight.
29:37Open your mouth. Hold on.
29:39You can't continue. It hurts right there?
29:42We medically recommend we stop the fight
29:44because he's going to get hit in his head.
29:46Okay, what round is this?
29:48You can't continue.
29:50No, okay, you can't continue medically.
29:52It's over. Doctor Jeff Davidson...
29:57What it is, his jaw was accidentally broken by an accidental person.
30:01Donair claiming that his jaw was broken.
30:03And this one is all over.
30:05You hear the reaction from the crowd.
30:07Of course, they want to see more action in the ring.
30:09But Vic Darchin ain't able to celebrate now.
30:21Doctor Jeff Davidson
30:26saying that's enough for Donair.
30:34He gets examined whether it's actually broken or not.
30:36We don't know.
30:38Ice.
30:41But Al, with those punches, I wouldn't doubt it.
30:46Strong left hand from Darchin.
30:48So Darchin rolls on his fifth successful defense of the title.
30:51Still Lord of the Flies, undefeated, 27-0.
30:56Nine consecutive knockouts.
30:58Donair falls to 16-3-1.
31:01So what happens now for Darchin?
31:03He says he's in love with the belt.
31:07He wants to unify the title.
31:13In a very talented division.
31:25Here is, now...
31:27Here is, now...
31:29The jaw allegedly was broken
31:31during the course of this round.
31:33Now, there's
31:35some right hands that are landing.
31:39Of course, the left hands have been in there.
31:41Now, we are hearing
31:45as we take a look at where the left hands got in.
31:47We're being told from the ring
31:49by Jim Gray
31:51that there may have been
31:53an accidental clash of heads
31:55accidental clash of heads
31:57that created the jaw to be broken
31:59or the injury.
32:01And Tony Weeks said, Jim Gray,
32:03that that may have caused the stoppage.
32:05And so, under those circumstances,
32:07they would go to the scorecards.
32:12We're in the fifth round.
32:14I notice promoter Gary Shaw
32:16explaining something to Victor Darchin
32:18and that may have been what he was saying to him.
32:20Listen, I have a surprise for you, gentlemen, here.
32:24We're gonna get right down
32:26to the bottom of this matter, Al.
32:30Jim Gray is
32:32tracking down Tony Weeks.
32:34We'll get an explanation from the referee.
32:46It certainly looked like there was a problem
32:48with his mouth there.
32:50It may have been slight damage
32:52It may have been slightly rearranged
32:54by Darchinian's power.
33:05Tony Weeks said he will not speak
33:07until after the decision is made,
33:09the judgment is made.
33:13So we'll hold off on that for the time being.
33:15Meanwhile, they attend with the ice
33:17to the jaw of
33:19Donair.
33:22Let's get it up
33:24to our ring announcer,
33:26Jimmy Lennon Jr.
33:28He'll tell us what's going on.
33:31Ladies and gentlemen, this bout has been stopped
33:33at 1 minute, 27 seconds
33:35in round number 6
33:37due to an accidental foul.
33:39The fighters clash heads
33:41and Donair is unable
33:43to continue due to an injury
33:45suffered to his jaw.
33:47Therefore, ladies and gentlemen,
33:49we go to the scorecards
33:51In these rounds of boxing,
33:53all 3 judges have the bout
33:55scored the same
33:5760-53
33:59All 3 in favor of the winner
34:01by way of technical decision
34:03and still champion
34:05the Raging Bull
34:07Nick Darchinian.
34:13So it is not a knockout,
34:15it is a technical decision
34:17because of the accidental foul,
34:20the injury to the jaw
34:22of Glenn Donair.
34:24They had to go to the scorecards
34:26and of course,
34:28it was a lopsided
34:30score in favor of
34:32Vic Darchinian.
34:34Technical decision because
34:36they clashed heads.
34:38All 3 judges had it the same way
34:40by 7 points.
34:42I think Vic Darchinian has enough
34:44belts there.
34:46He could get hurt just wearing those belts.
34:48IBO alongside the IBF.
34:50So coming up
34:52from the Mandalay Bay here in Las Vegas
34:54our main event
34:56Corrales-Casamayor 3
34:58the rubber match between Diego Corrales
35:00on the left, Joel Casamayor on the right
35:02from our co-feature. We go up to the ring
35:04and Jim Gray.
35:06Alright Steve, thank you very much.
35:08I'm joined by Tony Weeks who was the referee here in the ring.
35:10Tony, what was it that
35:12Dr. Davidson told you?
35:14That he possibly could have a broken jaw.
35:16And he recommended that the fight be stopped?
35:18He recommended that the fight should be stopped
35:20due to his jaw
35:22possibly being broke.
35:24Initially
35:26the fighter himself indicated to me that his jaw
35:28might be broken.
35:30Tony, we can see and we can take a look at the replays
35:32we can see several punches being thrown
35:34but we don't see the accidental foul. What was it that you saw?
35:36Well
35:38when I was doing the fight
35:40it appeared to me that
35:42in the position I was in, it appeared to me
35:45that the heads came together. I didn't really see
35:47the punch. All I saw was them
35:49come in and
35:51the other fighter immediately turned
35:53away in wincing in pain
35:55and complaining about his jaw.
35:57Is a broken jaw
35:59did the fighter have, could he have elected to
36:01continue in that condition? Because we certainly have heard
36:03in the past, you know, all the way down
36:05from Muhammad Ali, great fighters
36:07who have continued with broken jaws.
36:09Is it once you're aware of it that a fighter
36:11cannot continue? Or what is the rule on that?
36:13Well, first of all, any type of injury
36:15that a fighter sustains in the ring
36:17that can possibly
36:19be life-threatening
36:21is going to be the doctor's decision
36:23whether he can medically, whether he can
36:25continue the fight or not without doing
36:27any further harm to the fighter himself.
36:29Broken jaw considered life-threatening?
36:31Well, I'm not
36:33a medical doctor but
36:35he was, there was a lot of blood in his
36:37mouth and he was swallowing a lot of blood.
36:39Okay Tony, thank you. Good job tonight. We appreciate you
36:41taking the time. Thank you. Alright, let's bring Vic in.
36:43Vic,
36:45Vic, congratulations to you
36:47on your victory here tonight.
36:49What was your assessment of how this fight ended?
36:51Did you feel as though there was an accidental headbutt?
36:53He's not headbutt.
36:55He's a smart guy. I hurt him, I feel the
36:57punch, I feel like I broke his, you know?
36:59And I'm interested when he stay in hand
37:01and legs and didn't go down. After I
37:03punch him a few more time and after he feel
37:05he can't be, he will go down, that's why I
37:07stopped. He's not headbutt, he's not
37:09hands, you know? You can see in
37:11tape, everyone record it and I know
37:13I punch him, he said, everyone saw how many punch I give
37:15him in chin, you know? It's, I can't
37:17understand why this good point decision, it's supposed to be
37:19knockout. If I know it will
37:21be this, I will knock him out much earlier. I wanna
37:23just fight, be interested, you know?
37:25I don't wanna just go
37:27Was it not interesting to you? Was this an easy
37:29opponent for you? No, it's not easy, it's good
37:31opponent. You see how many punches he hold, he take and
37:33hold it, but I wanna knock him
37:35out and I know I can do that, you know? If I wanna
37:38early knockout, I can do that too.
37:40Give me again him, you see, I can do
37:42this time, I will do early
37:44knockout, you know? Vic, let's take a look at the monitor
37:46here, tell us what's going on, you were able to knock him
37:48down, the end of the 4th round, this is not that
37:50but it seemed as though you were able to hit that right quite a bit
37:52tonight. Yeah, I knock him down
37:54with right shoulder punch, with legs right
37:56and I feel it, if you
37:58saw, when I knock him, when I give him uppercut
38:00if you see that, you can put in tape and you see when I
38:02hurt him in uppercut, he's blown, I stay.
38:04I didn't wanna finish him. I wanna not show you
38:06because I don't wanna severely finish him, I know I can
38:08hold him, any time I can punch him.
38:10You're still ready to keep fighting?
38:12I can't remember, 2nd or 3rd round
38:14when I hurt him with uppercut, he's blown and I stay,
38:16I tell him, come over, stay. I didn't knock him
38:18out. If I know he's like this, I will knock him
38:20out much earlier, you know? I don't like Poe's decision,
38:22I wanna knock him out. If you
38:24check this fight and you see I broke his v-chin, please
38:26just change it, put knockout, it's not Poe's decision,
38:28you know? That's only a statistic at
38:30this point, the main statistic is that you won
38:32as we take a look at the knockdown here
38:34in the 4th round. This was a really
38:36good short right and you caught him clean,
38:38didn't you?
38:42Yeah, if you find, if you carry
38:44your telecom operator finds me uppercut,
38:46I think it's 2nd or 3rd round and you can see
38:48I knock him down like nearly, he didn't go
38:50down, I stop, I didn't finish him. Because
38:52I wanna clean punch, I wanna knock him out clearly,
38:54you know? Not just with punch, not just with two punch,
38:56I wanna knock him out with one punch. If I know he's like
38:58this, it's nice
39:00knockdown, I know, but... Let me ask you
39:02Vic, about what you wanna do now, you have wanted
39:04to unify the title, but you've also spoken
39:06about possibly moving up a weight class or two
39:08weight classes, what will you do right now?
39:10Of course I wanna unify it, a long time
39:12I've been looking for that and I have my man
39:14my promoter, Gary Shaw,
39:16he's doing for me the best, I'm very happy
39:18and everyone he give me, I will knock him
39:20out, you know? I don't care, anyone.
39:22Al Bernstein made an interesting comment
39:24tonight, he said he would like to see you fight against Marquez
39:26a couple of divisions up, is that a possibility?
39:28Of course, I will fight, anytime
39:30just give me. Just give you what?
39:32Just give me opponent. Okay.
39:34Congratulations to you. Thank you very much.
39:36Alright, back to you Steve.
39:38Alright Jim, while respectful of Glenn Donair
39:40he really thought that the injury
39:42was from a punch and not a headbutt
39:44and therefore this should have been a TKO
39:46Vic, a little disappointed that the result
39:48doesn't have the letters K-O
39:50after it, but nevertheless
39:52as Jim pointed out, a
39:54W-I-N. That's the most important
39:56thing for Vic Tarchinian.
39:58Let's see how the scoring
40:00went Al, for Tarchinian vs. Donair
40:02the official judges scorecards
40:04as mentioned, Clements
40:06Perkins and Trowbridge, all on the same
40:08wavelength. Not surprising
40:10with the knockdown.
40:12And then we turn
40:14the page to press row scoring
40:16and there you have it
40:18a mirror image, Jeff Haney
40:20Karen Mulvaney and James Smitty-Smith
40:22had it 60-53 as well, all
40:24for the winner and still champion.
