00:00Pure Hoops with Terp, Justin Turpin in studio with us. What's up, Terp?
00:02What's up?
00:04Would you do this, Terp?
00:05Yeah, I want your thoughts on this.
00:05Would you trade Jalen Brown and Drew Holiday
00:07to the Rockets for Fred Van Fleet, Jabari Smith,
00:11Tari Eason, and pick 10?
00:13No, no, you're not getting any of their top guys.
00:16Think about the precedent, too, that's been set around the league.
00:18Mikael Bridges went for five first-round picks last summer.
00:21Like, that's kind of what you're looking for if you're the Celtics.
00:23Yeah, but you're not going to get five first-round picks for him.
00:25No, I'm not, but if you're talking about Jalen Brown...
00:26A guy who can't play... Oh, well, for Jalen, I'm sorry.
00:28I thought you were talking Holiday and Porzingis.
00:32I mean, you're not going to get five first-rounders for Brown either
00:34because of the deals.
00:35Is Brad listening on Jalen Brown?
00:38My guess would be no.
00:39My guess would be no.
00:40I think they're going to try to build around Jalen Brown,
00:43Derek White, and Jason Tatum.
00:44That's probably the core they're looking at.
00:45Why are they meeting with Cooper Flagg?
00:47Well, I mean, then you look at, like, what...
00:48You obviously know who has that number one pick now.
00:51It's Dallas, and they've shown they're in a win-now scenario.
00:54So if you meet with them, and what is a Kristaps Porzingis-Drew Holiday
00:57and maybe, like, the 28th and 32th, what does that get you for Dallas?
01:01Like, they've shown that they're not really competent in making these moves.
01:04Who would have thought they would have traded Luka Nogic?
01:05I think, like, you're doing your due diligence.
01:07They're probably going to try to move up in the draft.
01:09They have the assets to do it.
01:10They're probably going to look to get younger,
01:11more so than bring in players.
01:13Like, they're going to bring in players, of course,
01:14but you're probably looking more to build through the draft
01:17and build up guys on cheaper deals
01:19so you can retain guys like Derek White, Jalen Brown,
01:22and Jason Tatum all together
01:23because you've got two Supermax guys right now,
01:25and obviously there's a lot of money piled into this roster as is.
01:28So if you're making a move,
01:29I would imagine you're going up into the draft
01:31to try to build that way.
01:33Sure, but for flags specifically.
01:35Like, Trey Johnson maybe would be available at 10 in that Rocket scenario.
01:38For flags specifically,
01:39you're not getting that done with Porzingis and Drew Hall.
01:42That would have to be Jalen Brown.
01:43They would have to be a player like that.
01:45Yeah, yeah.
01:45But they're also, I mean,
01:47the whole reason Dallas traded Luka was for a win-now player,
01:50and are they willing to wait and develop?
01:52It's going to take,
01:52Cooper flag is not even 19 yet.
01:54It's going to take him a year or two to figure it out.
01:56It's like playing with an aging Kyrie Irving
01:58coming off a torn ACL,
01:59Klay Thompson,
02:00Anthony Davis who can't stay on the court.
02:02Like, I mean, I don't know.
02:03They seem to,
02:04all the reporting is that Dallas is going to stick and pick,
02:06but like,
02:06could you really trust them?
02:07They just traded Luka Doncic.
02:09Yeah, no,
02:10that's why I think you got to at least explore it.
02:12That might be more for Giannis.
02:13That might be more for Booker
02:15or who knows what else it could be,
02:17but Al Horford seems like for sure gone.
02:19Yeah.
02:20Right?
02:20Free agent after this year.
02:22And then Luke Cornett too,
02:23who you thought,
02:23if you're just looking at this roster,
02:24you're like,
02:25all right,
02:25well maybe Cornett kind of slides over
02:26and he ends up playing more minutes.
02:27Like, well,
02:28he's also gone.
02:28Is he more inclined now to stay though?
02:30Because he can be the starting center for this team
02:32for years to come.
02:33It would be a multi-year deal.
02:35I mean,
02:35it would have to be closer to the minimum.
02:36They could probably give him more than the minimum,
02:38but it's going to have to be for less.
02:39But then again,
02:40somebody paying something.
02:41Yeah.
02:42He turned out less money last year to come back here.
02:45But does he want to stay here?
02:46Does he want to stay with this core
02:49and have a chance to start for,
02:51eventually they're going to be contenders again.
02:52And you know,
02:53they're going to be a playoff team next year,
02:54but he should cash.
02:56He should cash.
02:56I mean,
02:57whatever he could get,
02:59he should cash in.
03:00And the Celtics shouldn't,
03:01he's not the kind of player the Celtics should be paying,
03:03but they're trying to save money.
03:04I thought is what Bill Chisholm's trying to do.
03:06He won't cost him that much though.
03:07But I'm just saying,
03:08but you already,
03:09you're into the second apron without even factoring him in.
03:12Now you're handing him an extension.
03:13Like I just,
03:14that's not the kind of guy that he handed money out to.
03:16You can't have Tatum come back and have nobody on the roster.
03:19And this is a guy that Tatum plays really well with and fits the system
03:22really well.
03:23So you're looking at it like Horford's going to be off the books.
03:26You're assuming poor Zingas will probably be traded.
03:28You don't have any bigs on the roster.
03:29If that's the case.
03:30Namiya Cade is your starting center right now.
03:31Yeah.
03:32If that's the case.
03:32I'd start wrapping my head around that.
03:34Yeah.
03:34So yeah.
03:35Like you have to look at Cornette and like,
03:37you know,
03:37you're going to have to pony up money somewhere.
03:38It's not like you're just going to completely empty the cupboards and leave
03:41nothing for Jason Tatum.
03:42And Cornette's a player that they really believe in,
03:44in that organization.
03:45Like they gave him another shot.
03:47And I wonder if that's something Cornette considers like the couple of years
03:49ago,
03:49this guy was on 10 day deals and Boston gave him a chance.
03:52He's contributing at a high level for a championship caliber team.
03:55So I wonder if he's more inclined now,
03:57especially being a starter.
03:58John in the Twitch chat says this Terp.
04:01Am I taking crazy pills?
04:03Cornette should not be the starting center.
04:06I mean,
04:06who else would it be?
04:07That's the thing.
04:08Like that's the situation you're in.
04:09If Al Horford's retired and you're trading Christoph Porzingis,
04:12like who would it be?
04:12It would be Kata.
04:13It would be like,
04:14I'm not saying that's ideal by any means.
04:15They wouldn't start Kata over Cornette.
04:16No way.
04:16I know,
04:17but it's a,
04:17this is,
04:18but Terp,
04:18this isn't a hoops thing.
04:19It's a financial thing.
04:20They're trying to save money and dip under the tax.
04:22And Kata's under contract.
04:24Cornette isn't.
04:24All right.
04:25So it's like the financial other option.
04:27Would it be Porzingis?
04:28I think we've all written him off as this,
04:30as the series played out.
04:31It's like,
04:31he's gone.
04:31Got to get rid of him.
04:32$30 million.
04:33There's not going to be much of a return.
04:35The guy clearly is dealing with something and I don't know if it'll be
04:39resolved.
04:40Nobody knows if it'll be resolved,
04:41but is there a scenario where he's actually on the team next year?
04:44I mean,
04:44yeah,
04:45from a roster building standpoint,
04:46it feels like Porzingis would be the one out of the bigger financial guys you
04:50would keep just looking at your guards.
04:51You probably have more faith in Derek White and Peyton Pritchard who seem
04:55untouchable right now than you do Kata and Cornette and Cornette's not even
04:58under contract right now.
05:00So from a roster building standpoint,
05:02yeah,
05:02I feel like Porzingis would make more sense to hang on to.
05:05And then again,
05:06like what is his trade value?
05:07Maybe there's some interest because he's on the last year of his deal.
05:10Maybe a team will take that on,
05:11try to make a run,
05:12but you don't know what you're getting with them.
05:13Like he missed the NBA finals last year for something that 45 people in the
05:17history of medicine have had on their ankle.
05:20And then he misses a,
05:20like in a playoff series now because of,
05:23or he wasn't,
05:24didn't miss it,
05:24but he was completely non-existent because of a mystery illness.
05:26It's like,
05:27are you really going to bet on this guy?
05:28And you probably don't have to give up much.
05:29The Celtics are just looking to kind of get under the tax.
05:32That's what they need.
05:32But you can also,
05:33they're going to be looking to get trade players back and picks back.
05:36So I don't know.
05:37It's going to be interesting.
05:38The whole off season is just a big question mark.
05:40You think Missoula is in any jeopardy?
05:42No,
05:42not at all.
05:43Not,
05:43not one bit.
05:44I mean,
05:44they had back-to-back 61 seasons.
05:46They just won a title.
05:46And I know a lot of the coaches have been let go after winning a title.
05:50Look at Mike Malone this year,
05:51obviously.
05:52And his team had plenty of success going and pushing Oklahoma city to a
05:55seven game series.
05:56So,
05:57I mean,
05:57I don't think there's any,
05:58I think they really believe in him.
05:59They believe in this philosophy.
06:01And to be honest,
06:01man,
06:01they just,
06:02they just broke down at the end.
06:03Like they completely broke down.
06:05But they were going to be down three,
06:06one,
06:06even before Tatum got,
06:07and they should have won that series.
06:07And they should,
06:08they,
06:08you know,
06:08they should have won games one and two.
06:10That's why you'd look at Missoula independent of the 60 win seasons.
06:12That's why you'd look at,
06:13or why some I'm with you.
06:15I wouldn't fire him.
06:16Keith wouldn't fire him.
06:17I don't think they're going to fire him,
06:18but that's what people would look to.
06:20Yeah.
06:20I mean,
06:20obviously when talking about a team,
06:22this talented as well,
06:23you're going to look at the head coach.
06:24That's just comes with a territory in any sport,
06:27but specifically basketball.
06:28And you have all these all-star and all NBA players compiled on one
06:31roster.
06:32And you're eliminated in the second round.
06:34Like this team was supposed to be playing into June.
06:36And this team was supposed to be back in the NBA finals.
06:38And when they don't get there,
06:39people are naturally going to turn and look at Missoula and don't get me
06:42wrong.
06:42He wasn't perfect through the series whatsoever.
06:44Not at all.
06:44Like there was plenty of things down the stretch that they could have done
06:47right.
06:47And blowing the 20 point leads and back-to-back games.
06:49I mean,
06:49people hadn't done a team,
06:50hadn't done that in a single post-season,
06:52let alone back-to-back games at home.
06:53Like,
06:54yeah,
06:54he was far from perfect,
06:55but it's also,
06:56it works like this team over the last two years is 101 or a hundred games
07:00over 500.
07:01Like their philosophy is working.
07:03They just kind of ran out at the end and couldn't make shots.
07:06And I mean,
07:07it sounds like a,
07:07like when Joe,
07:08so when they lost to Miami in 2023,
07:10Joe said,
07:11it was like they had their worst week at the worst possible time.
07:14It's kind of what happened against New York as well.
07:16Like when you're looking at the shots,
07:17they're when that keeps happening.
07:18And I'd look at the coach.
07:19Yeah.
07:19I'd look at something when it keeps happening.
07:22I mean,
07:22are they going to be able to keep going with this strategy?
07:26Because let's say they do move on from poor Zingas and Horford goes
07:31play somewhere else.
07:32The chances of getting a power forward center type guys that shoot threes
07:37the way that those two do.
07:38I think what's really changed was when they got rid of time Lord,
07:41they then had almost every lineup at five guys that could shoot threes.
07:44Isn't there kind of a likelihood that next year there might be lineups.
07:47They only have three guys that you want shooting threes.
07:50Doesn't that change things for sure?
07:51I mean,
07:51everyone in this rotation with the exception of Luke Cornett,
07:54who probably is still a league average shooter,
07:55but didn't shoot the three anymore.
07:57Like all of them shot league average or better from three.
08:00So you couldn't really like leave any of them open.
08:02They were all,
08:03you can go five out with the lineup like that.
08:05You're probably not going to look at like that way.
08:06Like with guys like Al Horford,
08:08who's developed into a decent enough three point shooter,
08:10Christophe Porzingis,
08:11obviously one of the best big man shooting the three and he does it from so
08:14far away.
08:15It's obviously going to look different when you're having guys in,
08:17like,
08:17you're not going to have the talent that you have.
08:19So you're going to have to mix it up a little bit.
08:21Yeah.
08:21They're still going to rely on the threes and they're still going to rely on
08:24creating these advantages and mismatches and whatnot,
08:26but your philosophy has to change with the talent that you have in your
08:29roster.
08:29And it's not going to look the same.
08:30Like this was an extremely talented group that was catered perfectly for
08:34what this team wanted to do without that,
08:36without the talent on this team and without Jason Tatum,
08:38there has to be changes.
08:39Absolutely.
08:39We got pure hoops with Terp on a Monday,
08:42breaking down the Celtics,
08:43their series loss to New York.
08:45Any moves going forward for this team?
08:47You can weigh in 617-779-7937.
08:51All your questions for Terp here on Jones and Keefe,
08:53WEI.
08:54Let's go to Louie in Amesbury.
08:55What's up,
08:56Louie?
08:57Hey guys.
08:59How are you?
08:59Happy Monday.
09:00Yep.
09:00Happy Monday.
09:02Listen,
09:02I listen all the time.
09:04First time caller.
09:05I'm home sick today.
09:06So I'm really enjoying the show.
09:07It's all good.
09:09Listen,
09:11isn't it just amazing that in a second,
09:14we're talking about back to back championships and then Tatum goes down.
09:20And then we see how quick Porzingis,
09:23whatever he's got going on,
09:26Holiday looks like an old man.
09:28I mean,
09:28it's just,
09:29I just can't believe it.
09:30Now we're talking about Cooper flag,
09:33AKA Larry bird type trades.
09:36And I'm just going to jump to this because I've been on hope for a little bit.
09:39I've been listening to a lot of what you guys are saying.
09:41Can you imagine the Dallas GM all of a sudden giving up Cooper flag?
09:47Yeah.
09:48So,
09:48so I can't,
09:49you guys both can.
09:50I can't.
09:50You guys are a moron.
09:51Of course I,
09:51of course I can.
09:52He's proven,
09:53like he kept his job after that.
09:54They,
09:54I mean,
09:55I guess they had to.
09:56Okay.
09:56They really got bailed out.
09:57Well,
09:58getting the first,
09:59if you believe the conspiracy theories,
10:00maybe he just knew all.
10:01That's true.
10:02We had it the whole time.
10:03He's like,
10:03guys,
10:04I can't say anything now,
10:05but just play this out.
10:06You're like,
10:07what?
10:08No,
10:09but I,
10:09so he says on the one hand,
10:11the call is right.
10:11Like this thing turned on a dime.
10:13They went from being like back to back champs.
10:15Like,
10:15Oh my God,
10:15you get to blow it up.
10:16But before the Tatum injury,
10:18we had been talking a lot about how much money they're spending.
10:21Wick Rose back to the interview with Greg show,
10:23talk about the new owner and nobody's going to be in the second apron.
10:25So we were already going to remove a guy from this top seven.
10:29Anyway,
10:30at least one guy from the top seven,
10:32then Tatum gets hurt.
10:34So that,
10:34that changes the whole thing.
10:35So now you're talking about minimum two guys from this group are going to be
10:38out.
10:39Horford,
10:39probably unlikely to resign because of what's going on.
10:42So now you're like,
10:42there's three guys from this group that are out.
10:44So yeah,
10:45it has changed,
10:46but I mean,
10:47there were,
10:47there were signs and then there was just a season ending injury.
10:50I also think people holding onto the hope that had they gone back to back
10:53and remained healthy,
10:55Bill Chisholm would have a hard time coming in and start selling off.
10:57I was in that camp.
10:58If they won back to back,
10:59I thought we will never know.
11:01And they probably could,
11:02even if they went back to back and pulled this off because of the Jason Tatum
11:05injury,
11:05like you probably wouldn't justify it either.
11:07Like it was hard already.
11:09Like there was changes inevitably coming soon.
11:11Like when this group was put together,
11:13it had an expiration date and that date is now,
11:15move forward with an early exit and Jason Tatum being out.
11:18What could be a calendar year?
11:19Let's go to Steve in Ohio.
11:20What's up,
11:20Steve.
11:23Thank you for taking my call.
11:25Yes.
11:25Can you hear me?
11:26Yep.
11:26You sound great.
11:27I believe the coach should be fired.
11:33And here's why.
11:34Yes.
11:35Number one,
11:36Brown was injured.
11:38So to start him in the third quarter,
11:42just risked his injury getting worse.
11:45They obviously,
11:46you wouldn't have brought Jalen back out for the second half of game six.
11:49Is that what you're saying?
11:50Yes.
11:52I wouldn't play him in the second half.
11:54It was obvious that he was injured.
11:56Well,
11:56Steve,
11:57Steve,
11:57the full report,
11:58he was hurt back in March.
11:58So this happened in March,
11:59according to.
12:00So you wouldn't have a game five.
12:01It was unbelievable.
12:03He was their best player on the court.
12:04Quite a few times in this post season.
12:07Yeah.
12:07A partially torn meniscus.
12:08Look,
12:09I give Jalen a lot of credit for playing through that.
12:10I don't know if I've said that.
12:11I think that's a Missoula thing.
12:12I think that's a Brown.
12:13That is a medical staff.
12:15I give him credit.
12:15And let's see.
12:16Does he need surgery to get it repaired?
12:18There's apparently very,
12:19you you're more aware of this than I am,
12:21but there's various things you can do.
12:22You can get nothing done.
12:23You can get it replaced.
12:24Yeah.
12:25You can get it repaired.
12:26All various timetables,
12:27right?
12:28Robert Williams had his repaired.
12:30Yes.
12:31And he came back.
12:32So,
12:32I mean,
12:32Jalen is going to be ready for opening night.
12:34Next year.
12:35That's the hope.
12:35And Jalen did talk about it after the game,
12:37after game six,
12:38said they were going to meet and figure out what the best steps are moving
12:41forward.
12:41We probably won't hear from him again until at least summer league,
12:44if he does go.
12:45So maybe Brad will give something today,
12:47but it's really unclear.
12:48And it's just,
12:49it just adds to what a meltdown this has been towards the end of the
12:52year.
12:52I mean,
12:52clearly he's had it.
12:53He's been dealing with it,
12:54but nobody really knew the extent of what it was.
12:56And he was saying how it wasn't structural.
12:58Everyone's like,
12:58Oh,
12:58it's just a bone bruise.
12:59Maybe he gets like a,
13:00a cleanup surgery on the knee after.
13:02And it just is way worse than what people thought.
13:04Do you have a biggest issue from game six?
13:06Because as well as they played in game five,
13:09they were so bad in game six.
13:12Really.
13:12You couldn't have a bigger swing from the two games.
13:14So what,
13:15what stood out the most?
13:16It just got out of control early.
13:17I was 16,
13:1816.
13:18And then New York went on that crazy run.
13:20Boston couldn't hit a shot.
13:22And I look at the guards.
13:23I mean,
13:23you needed Derek white.
13:24You need a Peyton Pritchard to be better in that situation.
13:27And Jalen was the best player on the floor for them,
13:29but he kept turning the ball over.
13:30He couldn't help.
13:31He just couldn't hold on to the ball.
13:32Yeah.
13:33Joe Mazzula always like belabors the point about these margins and how
13:36important they are.
13:37And honestly,
13:37that's part of a big reason why they lost the series when in the first
13:40quarter in that game,
13:41like 60% or whatever it was of New York points came off second chance
13:45points and points off turnovers,
13:47like stuff the Celtics can't control.
13:48And those margins become ever so more important when Jason Tatum's off the
13:52floor.
13:52Like you need to now control those because I thought Boston was still the
13:56more talented team,
13:57even without Jason Tatum,
13:58but turns out with all the injuries,
14:00probably not,
14:01but like you need to control those areas of the game,
14:03no matter what,
14:04especially when Jason Tatum's down.
14:06Did you,
14:06uh,
14:06did you hear a scowl after the game?
14:08I actually didn't.
14:08I heard you guys talk.
14:09Okay.
14:09So I didn't,
14:10okay.
14:10So in the clip,
14:11I'll just paraphrase.
14:12We're going to play it again coming up,
14:13but he said the Celtics had got into bad habits and they were cheating the
14:17game.
14:18Uh,
14:18and the Knicks deserve to win,
14:20et cetera.
14:21Uh,
14:22what do you think he's talking about?
14:23I think he's talking about probably looking back at that stretch that
14:25they had in December and January and letting bad habits creep in there,
14:29whether it be in the club.
14:30Like,
14:30what is that?
14:30Is that launching too many threes?
14:32Like,
14:32what is that?
14:33I mean,
14:33just maybe getting away from their style,
14:34like lack of attention to detail,
14:36which we saw,
14:36which obviously contributes to the offensive rebounds and the turnovers,
14:39stuff like that.
14:40Inability to capitalize down the stretch.
14:42Like think about that Atlanta game,
14:44for example,
14:44when drew holiday committed the foul and they ended up losing that game.
14:47And it was like,
14:47well,
14:48it's true holiday.
14:49It's the Celtics.
14:49They're going to bounce back.
14:50And they didn't execute well enough down the stretch in the fourth quarter in
14:54the playoffs.
14:54So that's probably what he meant.
14:56I mean,
14:56everyone all season long,
14:57it's like,
14:58they're the champs.
14:58They're going to show up when it matters.
14:59And especially in the clutch,
15:01like we saw them executed such a high level last season,
15:03they're going to be all right.
15:04Turns out they weren't like,
15:05those are the bad habits that I think he's talking about.
15:08Mainly the attention to detail,
15:09lack of defense.
15:10Like they wanted to be a defensive minded team.
15:12And then they get lit up in game six.
15:14And the second half of game four was embarrassing from a defensive standpoint.
15:17So yeah,
15:18I think that's what he means.
15:18And I think he's onto something.
15:20You mentioned drew holiday.
15:21He did sound like,
15:22you know,
15:22he wants to be back.
15:23Thinks that there's still a window for a championship,
15:25but will he be back?
15:26Is that,
15:27is that a guy that they find another spot for?
15:29I mean,
15:29you're going to have to dump some of these higher paid guys.
15:32And it's not going to be Jason Tatum,
15:33Jalen Brown or Derek white.
15:35It feels like Peyton Pritchard's on a really team friendly deal.
15:37So it doesn't feel like it's going to be him.
15:39So you're looking at poor Zingas holiday and Hauser to at least one of them,
15:44probably to have to go.
15:45So yeah,
15:46I mean,
15:46there's what they're giving them like a 33% chance or whatever.
15:49Yeah.
15:49Next one.
15:50I just wonder,
15:51there's probably one of those guys.
15:52If Tatum was healthy,
15:54I feel like if Tatum's not,
15:55is there even more idea to like,
15:57Hey,
15:58we're going to let Jalen Brown kind of lead this team.
16:00We still think we're a playoff team.
16:02But do you get a little bit more creative and move on?
16:04Because now I'm thinking in my head,
16:05all right,
16:06so now what does drew holiday look like?
16:08Two years.
16:09Does he fit the timeline?
16:10Right.
16:10The next time Tatum does,
16:11if it's a calendar year,
16:12I don't holiday is 36.
16:14Like,
16:14is he fitting that timeline?
16:15And it feels like when he signed that extension,
16:18it was a really tradable deal.
16:19I think everyone kind of knew that in the moments like,
16:21Oh,
16:21are they really going to hold on to drew this long or are they going to trade
16:24them off?
16:25And there's definitely still value in drew holiday.
16:27I mean,
16:27I know he's dealing with some things.
16:28He had the pinky and had the hamstring and he's a winner winning player.
16:32Like they don't win the Eastern conference finals last year without drew
16:34holiday.
16:34So I think there's value,
16:35but it is limited.
16:37There's a limited amount of teams that he has value.
16:39Same thing with poor Zingas.
16:40Yeah.
16:40Like that's the issue.
16:41Well,
16:41it's not an aspiring deal.
16:43I think has maybe,
16:44maybe more teams.
16:45He could fit their timeline holiday.
16:47There's only like,
16:47it just depends on what you're willing to give up.
16:49Well,
16:49sure for a part-timer,
16:50the Twitch chat suggested Denver,
16:52which I thought was a good match for holiday.
16:53Yeah.
16:53Like he'd be a good fit with Murray in that backcourt.
16:56They want a couple of years ago.
16:57They're trying to maybe figure things out a team like that for holiday makes
17:01sense to me.
17:03Yeah.
17:03And maybe even like a team,
17:05I'd have to go down the line,
17:06but like maybe a team with like a younger guard,
17:08a team that's kind of on the cusp.
17:09That's,
17:10you know,
17:10looking for a veteran that can lead them and just bring some experience.
17:13Like drew holiday can still play.
17:14It's not like he's damaged goods or anything.
17:16The guy can still play.
17:17It's just,
17:17can he play at the number that he's given?
17:19It's like a hundred million or whatever,
17:21or whatever the next four years,
17:22like is a team that'd be willing to do that.
17:24And that Steven's going to be,
17:26I have a hard time partying with him too.
17:27I mean,
17:27he loves drew holiday.
17:29Well,
17:30it might not be his call though.
17:31Right.
17:31I mean,
17:31it's coming from the new owner and they got to get into the second apron.
17:34Let's squeeze in one more question for Terp.
17:36Charlie in the car has a question about the apron.
17:38Go ahead,
17:38Charlie.
17:39Yeah.
17:40So,
17:40and I was hoping you could just leave me on just a little bit extra so I can
17:43hear the answer.
17:43So we don't miss it.
17:44So,
17:45sure.
17:45So one of the things that I read,
17:46like for example,
17:47the only team that can take on his salary without,
17:51sending salary back to Boston,
17:53I read is Brooklyn.
17:54Now.
17:55Okay.
17:55So let's assume he doesn't go to Brooklyn.
17:57So do the Celtics need to take on expiring contracts that they need to
18:03shed before the start of next season?
18:05Or can they carry those expiring contracts beyond the 25,
18:0926 season?
18:10That's what I don't understand.
18:11Like,
18:11like do they have to shed the salary before next season?
18:15Yeah.
18:15Well,
18:15I mean,
18:16is it,
18:17when does it have to be locked in opening night?
18:18Like when do you have to lock in that second apron by the trade
18:20deadline?
18:20Yeah.
18:20No,
18:21probably by opening night.
18:22Okay.
18:22Yeah.
18:23So why is Brooklyn?
18:24I thought they would have to match salary in every trade.
18:26You were telling me this before.
18:27Why is Brooklyn,
18:28the team that doesn't have to,
18:30they wouldn't have to take on salary?
18:31I'm sorry.
18:32Just to send out to stay under the aprons.
18:33Cause they have not like,
18:34they have no money committed next year.
18:36Got it.
18:36Got it.
18:37So a team like Denver,
18:38for example,
18:39just based on their salaries for next year,
18:41all right.
18:41They're doing 3 million.
18:43There's like 20 million.
18:43So there's a lot of teams.
18:46I think Cleveland's a team that's going to have to get under their deal.
18:50They have like 210 committed to next year's team.
18:53But anyway,
18:54so I think without going like super into specifics,
18:57because it is the most,
18:58the salary cap in the NBA is the most complicated.
19:00Especially now.
19:01And even worse and worse and worse.
19:03Yeah.
19:04But that's why I think the likelihood of like holiday and porting is being gone.
19:08Make the most sense because let's say that's 60 million.
19:11You're not just dumping 60 million.
19:12You might have to take back 40.
19:14So yeah,
19:15you just saved 20,
19:16but you just lost two really good players,
19:17but that's probably how they're going to have to do it.
19:18I mean,
19:18it's going to cost a half a billion dollars to retain this roster next year.
19:22So that's not exited in the second round and they're without their best player.
19:25Tell me,
19:25would you pay that?
19:26Like 200 million for the start.
19:27So can Chisholm back out of the deal?
19:29Is it too soon for,
19:30too late for him to back out?
19:31It's fully financed.
19:33It's ready to go.
19:33I bet he could.
19:34Be like Pags.
19:36Here you go.
19:36I bet he could.
19:37And Pags would be all over.
19:38Pags would do it.
19:39I bet he could.
19:40Yeah.
19:40Another big loss.
19:41Pags.
19:42Last game.
19:42Last week.
19:43Pags last game.
19:44Yeah.
19:44The farewell game of Pags.
19:45Forgot about that.
19:46It was an oversight on my end.
19:48We won't all be back next year.
19:49Same team won't be back.
19:50No more Pags.
19:52No,
19:52I,
19:53if Tatum were healthy,
19:54I would be much more critical of them just saving money for basketball purposes
19:58because you'd have a championship caliber roster and you'd be dismembering it.
20:02In this case,
20:03I get it.
20:04You don't have Tatum.
20:04It makes sense to dip under the luxury tax.
20:07I don't want to give Bill Chisholm an excuse for just saving money,
20:09but you're not going to be a championship contender next year.
20:12I think there'll be better than a lot of people do.
20:1450 wins,
20:15fourth or fifth in the East,
20:15something like that.
20:16I think they give me that,
20:18but I don't think they're a true championship contender.
20:20They'll still be a playoff team.
20:22I mean,
20:22it's easier.
20:23It's harder to miss the playoffs than it is to,
20:25to get in the NBA.
20:27Like they should absolutely still be a playoff team.
20:30And I like your benchmark Jones,
20:31like try to win around,
20:32like just try to win around,
20:34stay relevant here today.
20:35That to me would be a successful year.
20:36What happens with Tatum?
20:37Like,
20:38obviously you don't want to rush him back,
20:39but if he's cleared and ready to return,
20:41like all systems that go from the doctors,
20:43like if he can play,
20:44play him.
20:45Like if there's no risk of further injury and like you get Tatum back and
20:48all of a sudden you could be back in that conversation.
20:51I wouldn't bank on it,
20:52but if Tatum is a little bit earlier on the timeline,
20:55and obviously there's some major questions with that,
20:57because how is he going to come back and see the floor?
20:59Is he going to play himself?
21:00Like there's a lot of questions that need to be answered,
21:02but this team as constructed right now,
21:04like in the future with Jalen Brown,
21:06Derek White,
21:06Peyton Pritchard,
21:07assuming it's that core is a playoff team and they should be in the
21:10playoffs next year.
21:11And she should win around.
21:12Okay.
21:13The purest of pure hoops with Terp.
21:15We've been doing it all Celtics season.
21:17I think we're going to put it on ice for a little bit.
21:19Terp,
21:19we appreciate it.
21:19Well,
21:19as needed,
21:21we'll go to it.
21:21As needed.
21:22Knicks Pacers.
21:23Who do you got?
21:23Oh,
21:23I like the Pacers.
21:24I like the Pacers.
21:25That team's fun.
21:26And they were good last year.
21:27Like they,
21:27again,
21:28I said it earlier.
21:29They almost beat the Celtics last year in the conference finals.
21:31And the Celtics had this incredible run.
21:33Like they were better than the Knicks.
21:35This is good news for the Knicks fans though,
21:36because I picked against the Knicks in every series.
21:39So they're just going to win the whole thing as I pick against them.
21:42I guess I,
21:42I guess I've picked against them in every series as well.
21:44Except for this one.
21:44Until now.
21:46Something's got to give.
21:48Something's got to give.
21:49All right,
21:49Terp,
21:49we appreciate it.
21:50Give him a follow at Justin M.
21:51Turpin.
21:52You can check out all his work.
