00:01We have gone through all those difficult times when we were fighting on the

00:08straight, we were struggling on the straight, we have gone through all that.

00:12So I would say I'm tested. If you say oh you need to quantify, then I'll say okay

00:19I was arrested eight times. Yeah, eight times I was charged in court twice.

00:26Loyalty, experience and willingness to take risks. Tanjung Malim MP Chang Likang said

00:33in an exclusive interview with FMT that these qualities make him well qualified

00:38to retain his vice presidency at the party polls later this month.

00:42If you ask me, I think that is my advantage. If the party members want someone who are tested,

00:52I would offer myself because we have undergone so many things and I would say yeah I am tested

01:01because in 2004 when the party was at the lowest, we didn't leave the party but we continue to work for the party.

01:102008 when I was elected as a first-time state assemblyman in Perak. We were the government after 11 months,

01:25then the government for and during that time a lot of temptations, a lot of offers but we didn't, we didn't cross.

01:39So those, okay that is a second test that I have gone through and of course third is during the second 2018,

01:52also there's a Sheraton move, if you remember. So I also didn't, I also didn't cross. I'm still with the party.

02:01So if you say loyalty to the party, I would say I'm one of them.

02:07Chang will be defending his post, which he won in 2022, in an 11-cornered fight.

02:12Chang's interest in politics was ignited following the sacking of then Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in 1998,

02:19which triggered the reformacy movement and led to PKR's formation in 2003.

02:24Chang joined PKR the following year and remained steadfast in upholding the party's core values of fighting for justice,

02:30even when he was arrested for participating in the BRCA 2.0 rally in 2011 and the hashtag Keep the Lawan rally in 2015.

02:38He was first elected to public office in 2008 after winning the Teja State seat in Perak by a 175-vote majority,

02:45and went on to defend the seat with a bigger majority of 2082 in 2013.

02:51The other important character, I would say, the other important character is I'm willing to take risks.

03:01So I never went to a safe seat, never in my fourth term as an elected rep.

03:15I think these are the, I think these are the very important character in us,

03:20that we are willing to take risks for the party and we are not going to stay, forever stay in a safe seat.

03:28In 2018, Chang rested the Tanjung Malin parliamentary seat,

03:32a Barca National stronghold from MCA's Ma Hang Sun with a 5,358 majority.
