00:00Tomorrow, 70 candidates will vie for 30 spots on DAP's Central Executive Committee, a contest

00:08that could determine the future of the Lim family's influence on the party.

00:13The top 30 will also elect its office bearers for the 2025 to 2028 term, a crucial period

00:20that includes the 16th general election due by November 2027.

00:25The upcoming elections will determine if party chairman Lim Kwan Eng will retain his family's

00:30strong influence within the party.

00:32His sister, Hui Ying, is also contesting, adding to the intrigue.

00:37Eyes are also on party secretary-general Lok Siew Fook to see if his allies, said to include

00:43Housing and Local Government Minister Na Khor Ming, will gain control of the committee.

00:48Political analyst James Chin said winning at least 16 seats would determine whether

00:53the old guard or the new leadership controls the party, ultimately determining who will

00:58become the party's chairman.

01:00He said DAP currently faces a lot of pressure from its core Chinese voter base, who are

01:06growing increasingly frustrated at its failure to take on a stronger stance on key issues,

01:12despite its position in the unity government.

01:15Meanwhile, P Siva Murugan of University Science Malaysia described Kwan Eng as a fighter who

01:21would not give up easily, likening him to his father, Kit Siang.

01:26Previously, FMT reported that there was a concerted push to oust Kwan Eng from his leadership

01:31position in DAP as members expressed concern over the Lim family's continued grip on the party.

01:38Facing an election marked by factional rivalries, Siva Murugan raised a pressing question.
