00:06ties with UMNO warlords stemming from an internal power struggle and dissatisfaction within

00:11the party's ranks, a source revealed.

00:14A well-placed source speaking on condition of anonymity claimed that certain UMNO leaders

00:18had been conspiring to sideline Tengku Zafrul after the party's poor showing at the Selangor

00:23elections in 2023.

00:25He resigned as the state chapter's treasurer in April, citing his inability to contribute

00:30to improving the state chapter and criticized Selangor UMNO for its lukewarm efforts to

00:35revive itself following its poor electoral outing.

00:38The source also revealed that Tengku Zafrul was poised to stand in the Selangor polls

00:42but had his plans derailed after a party leader expressed dissatisfaction with him.

00:47The source said there were also fears that Tengku Zafrul, said to be a valued member

00:50of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration, would outshine and eventually replace a certain

00:56UMNO leader.

00:57Describing Tengku Zafrul as a talented figure with close ties to the royal institution,

01:02the source suggested that such strength likely intensified the unease among the warlords,

01:07making him an easy target for certain factions and branded as a traitor by some UMNO leaders

01:12after his talks with PKR became public.

01:15In a statement on Sunday, he confirmed discussions with PKR over joining the party but said no

01:19decision had been made.

01:21He also denied being in talks over state-level positions or by-elections after rumors began

01:25to circulate that a move to PKR would see him become Selangor's Minji Basar.
