00:00so let's get started and we'll begin with game seven as all the first round series are now
00:04complete with this one being in the books the golden state warriors do take care of business
00:08in game seven beating the houston rockets by a final score of 103 to 89 steph curry with 22 points
00:16mostly in the second half he only had three in the first half but the big story for the warriors wow
00:21if they get this kind of performance from buddy healed throughout the rest of the playoffs they'll
00:25be in good shape he was nine of 11 from three-point range 33 points the warriors went on a 12-0 run
00:33late to win in the game so a great rocket season comes to an end in the first round courtesy of the
00:39warriors and steph curry after the game talking about how great houston's defense was they were
00:45just able to overcome you know from i can only speak for myself in the way that there that was
00:50one of the toughest defenses i think i've ever faced in the sense of the physicality that was
00:55allowed early in the series and then their commitment to just trying to take away all the
01:01patterns that we usually thrive off of and guard me a half court at times it was it was wild um but
01:09just staying patient but still being aggressive was uh the difference tonight i only had three points in
01:16the first half and like five shots but eventually every i'm trying to make the right play and soften them
01:22up and eventually you know you can make your presence felt scoring wise but everything else
01:27was about just trying to make winning plays the offensive rebounds although we have 14
01:33didn't really have a great percentage on the second chance uh only made 50 of those and so
01:38a little bit of that and i mean then the other part obviously uh they had the most success against
01:42our zone for the first time in the series and hill got loose there so uh they they hurt us
01:48when we were in zone and uh vice versa uh we struggled against theirs speaking of game sevens
01:54was it a coaching change that led to the denver nuggets win over the la clippers in game seven maybe
02:00so seems like nicole jokic said they're playing with more energy the energy showed on saturday denver
02:05beats la 120 to 101 russell westbrook former clipper by the way former thunder as well gonna end up
02:13playing them next round that's beside the point denver just to dominate the game what is there left to say
02:17houston uh houston's former player james harden doesn't get it done in houston now does not get
02:23it done with the los angeles clippers he's now lost a game seven with four different teams rockets
02:28nets 76ers and clippers but one of the true stories of the series was russell westbrook coming up big
02:35down the stretch hey russ what are you most proud of individually and as a group after that game seven
02:40um as a group i think we did a good job of being resilient um this was gonna be a tough series as
02:51we knew and i thought we did a good job of just sticking together being solid never wavering um i
02:59think that's shows kind of where we are especially with the changes that's happened towards for us
03:04towards the end of the year the ups and downs injuries and different things of that nature i thought we did
03:07a good job but kind of sticking together um i think we could have gave a better effort for sure
03:13uh at the time i don't think this team was 30 points better than this um i mean we've seen it
03:19throughout the first six games of the series uh but you got to give them credit they came out and fought
03:24um ran hard in transition got easy points and uh they made shots indiana pacers meanwhile pull up
03:33the biggest upset in the second round in game one as they defeat the cleveland cavaliers 121 to 112
03:39tyrese halliburton had 22 points 13 assists some big shots in the fourth folks indiana is legit
03:46donovan mitchell 33 points but just one from 11 from three point range one of the big differences for
03:52cleveland in this game was not having darius garland get a toe sprain and is going to try and suit up in
03:59game two or game three we'll see but certainly donovan mitchell after the game says he knows
04:03they're in for a dog fight i mean like i just said you know it would have been great to come in here
04:09and sweep these guys too but that's not that's not how this works man this is you know an uphill battle
04:13it's always going to be it's the playoffs you know um i said it during you know the media the other day
04:18like this is an experienced basketball team you know they're not going to waver they've been there
04:22before um and for us you know this is one game you know i mean the biggest thing is just how do you
04:27respond look at the film um but this is what it's about you know mentally physically um you know
04:34continually you know going and going and going and you know they hit first and there's we got to
04:39respond gives us a lot of uh you know momentum for sure and uh you can definitely feel good about it
04:45you know for the night um but this is the best team in our conference they play very hard uh they
04:51don't lose a ton you know so they're going to respond um and so we got to be prepared for that
04:56going into game too um but i thought we did a great job of weathering the storm when you know
05:01that that cavalance was on its way and uh i thought we did a great job of of weathering that and um
05:07you know once we once that happened you know i i i felt confident in our in our group but i i love
05:12the way we started the game i loved our energy from start to finish and uh yeah it's a really good
05:16win for us big news this morning in college football sharon moore head coach of the michigan
05:21wolverines it was announced that he has been suspended in a self-imposed punishment in the
05:26advanced scouting case surrounding the university of michigan he will uh self-impose the punishment
05:32and miss games three and games four of the season those are against central michigan nebraska
05:38moore uh is alma mater is oklahoma and michigan plays oklahoma so he will actually coach week one
05:44and week two and just not coach week three and week four record-breaking day for scotty scheffler
05:49at the byron nelson as he wins again shoots a 31 under par which ties the tour record for the lowest
05:5772 hole score of all time it was a crazy weekend of golf with everybody playing well
06:04scheffler wins by eight strokes at the byron nelson all right now let's get to some hockey news the jets
06:11beat the blues four to three one of the wildest finishes we've seen in the playoffs a double
06:15overtime the blues had a 3-1 lead with under two minutes to go in regulation jets score two
06:20and then with 1.6 seconds the latest tying games a scoring goal in game seven history incredible finish
06:29and so winnipeg moves on after they win four to three meanwhile saturday night the dallas stars
06:35win a thriller in game seven they beat the colorado avalanche four to two the last goal was an open
06:40netter with under a minute to go stars were down to nothing in the third period and then the player that
06:44they got at the trade deadline nico ratnan had a hat trick in the third period and talked about the
06:50incredible comeback the ups and downs in the series we didn't play a couple games we didn't play well
06:55at all and and uh even tonight a little bit flat first two periods and give up a goal on the power
07:02play you know and and uh they score first shift of the third kind of takes the air out of the building
07:07but i think i think belief was there with the group the whole time and and uh you know i was able to
07:16make a play to get the first one i think then crowd started to roll and we got a couple looks after
07:22that and and uh but yeah the crowd crowd really helped us there at the end stanley cup hockey always
07:28delivering especially in those finals in game sevens all right let's get to some major league baseball
07:32action one very tough injury for the boston red sox here tristan casas running to first base
07:38ends up falling extending his leg it turns out he's got a left patellar tendon injury that's going to
07:44cost him the season had to have knee surgery over the weekend cubs showed up in monaga we don't know his
07:50status just yet he left after injuring his left leg limped uh on a play at first base cubs have been
07:56playing great so this is not great news for them austin riley hit two home runs hey the dodgers
08:00finally lost the game the braves beat them last night four to three after a long game
08:05saturday night as well and the cardinals sweep a doubleheader versus the mets nolan arenato
08:09great day for him went four for eight game one the mets uh end up falling six to five the cardinals
08:15and then the cardinals come back also again and win in game two by a final of five to four all right
08:21pat evans claims he does not have a case of the mondays all right i don't know not sure if we can pull
08:27that that statement off pat is with us here on newswire and uh you know certainly pat if you do
08:33have a case of the mondays here you definitely brought some good stuff to the table here for the
08:37show today so we got that going for us yeah i mean at least i can talk about fun stuff on a monday
08:43i suppose that's always a benefit here yeah definitely so all right so so let's get started
08:48here bet 365 who have been around a long time even before the days of fan duel and draft kings and
08:54you know sort of infiltrated the united states too after being overseas for many years uh maybe
08:59looking at a potential sale what would that look look like yeah so news broke last week out of out
09:05of london from the guardian and it said that denise coates who's the leader of bet 365 was talking to
09:11wall street last week uh or recently um about potential sale options she's 57 she started it with her
09:19brother in 2000 or the online segment after inheriting um their father's uh chain of in you know brick and
09:27mortar stores and so now it's just time to see you know what are the options um she is already the
09:33highest paid uh woman in the uk so that's you know she's got some money but she wants to find out what's
09:40next uh according to the guardian and that could mean anything it could mean a private equity sale
09:44um there's talk of spin-offs of different parts of the business uh perhaps a public listing here in
09:51the u.s maybe a takeover from another company though you know we'll see what any of those options could
09:57be but it is you know estimated to be about a nine billion pound business but that's up you know in
10:04usd that's about 12 million or 12 billion dollars so it's nothing to sneeze at probably certainly limits
10:09the suitors um and it is interesting because it is one of the world's biggest sports books prominent
10:15for sure um and it hasn't made a ton of noise here in the u.s it probably has about three percent market
10:21share um it's recently amped up its its activity in in the u.s over here um but again not you know
10:30making too much noise compared to draft kings and fan duel but we'll see what happens uh as the market
10:35continues to mature of note you know that like i said they've really started to amp up their their
10:40activity uh the st louis cardinals we talked about this a couple months ago uh announced that they
10:46will be the partner in missouri which i remember you said you know that is missouri's team not
10:50necessarily the chiefs i remember you're very adamant about that um so you know they are making some
10:57moves and and we'll see if if the sale does happen or public listing and if it's in the u.s
11:03because most of that capital ability would probably be on wall street how much does that help maybe grow
11:09it uh and maybe refocus efforts in the u.s it's going to be certainly something interesting to
11:14watch as one of the world's most prominent sports books as we head to the summer missouri will get
11:20online with their sports betting eventually but then i don't know that any other state is going to
11:24come online with sports betting this year hawaii looks like a no uh pat is there any update on
11:29oklahoma i know that was a state that we discussed last week as a possibility yeah oklahoma is such a
11:36strange state because of the tribal relations between the governor and the tribes uh you know
11:42entering the year it looked like a long shot um we thought maybe nebraska maybe minnesota
11:47hawaii came out of nowhere and almost got it done didn't of course um you know nebraska was just kind
11:54of or not nebraska oklahoma was just kind of a toss away saying there's no way that there can be an
11:59agreement so there's no way it can happen um well it turns out they're they're the lawmakers are
12:04looking to maybe go around the governor by you know who has pledged to veto any legislation that
12:13gives the tribes exclusivity well sure there's a bill that did just pass a senate committee for
12:18the first time from the house that would do that and certainly governor kevin stitt would veto it
12:24however there's another bill that is in play that they used back in 2003 the oklahoma legislator to
12:30uh just send the issue to the ballot and say hey if you want this go ahead and vote it it happened back
12:35in 2003 with the lottery they created a lottery by that and it was basically lawmakers saying we don't
12:41want to be the definitive say on this and that might be what happens here in oklahoma this year with
12:47sports betting um even if stip vetoes the one bill the other one would he would only be able to set
12:53the referendum date so you know maybe he might try to put it on a weird date that nobody will vote and
12:57that's what he's trying to get around but you know if oklahomans truly do want it you know why why
13:03wouldn't they uh go ahead and vote that way and that's something that happened in missouri that
13:08last year we might see something similar next year in nebraska with um sports betting companies maybe
13:14doing their own ballot initiative as they did in missouri right um and so oklahoma yeah they could
13:21potentially have it on the ballot this year sometime later this year and they might get to say yeah we
13:27do want it or no we don't want it and then we know who knows what happens then yeah no i mean i mean look
13:33it's it's just hard to you know get through some of this and a lot of these states similar to florida
13:37with the tribal influence and also in california some states it worked out like here some states are
13:43still waiting all right uh let's let's talk about louisiana here and they'd like to raise the taxes
13:50in sports betting but for a very specific purpose which is actually pretty innovative and interesting
13:57pat yeah so you know we've talked a lot about potential tax hit type tax hikes in sports betting
14:03you know governor uh governors across the country including in ohio and maryland and new jersey have
14:09suggested bumping up the tax rates and that's all for various reasons we know a lot of state
14:14governments are in need of revenue and why not bring some more from something that's happening
14:19already like sports betting well in louisiana they want to go ahead and practically double uh well no
14:25more than double this tax rate from something of 15 to around 32 percent and you know some of that
14:32that would go extra money towards addiction um programs and the like but it was also raising money
14:37for 11 state universities in louisiana and that's you know it would be something like 32 million dollars a
14:44year that would be extra to go towards these programs for college athletics i think you know it's no secret
14:51that uh athletic department budgets are skyrocketing um with in the new uh nil age and you know this is going to be
14:59you know this is going to be helpful or would be helpful if it does pass um it you know it did pass
15:04one committee and we'll look towards the house floor but you know for maybe for lsu maybe that's
15:10not a huge drop in the bucket for splitting up 32 million among 11 schools and lsu's athletic budget
15:17something like 200 million dollars a year that's not going to be huge for them but some of these other
15:21louisiana schools have athletic budgets of like 20 million dollars so a couple million dollars here and there
15:26could be huge and you know i think some lawmakers might be a little iffy on using sports betting funds
15:33to then fund athletics but you know we'll see what happens uh certainly there has not been a ton of
15:40appetite in the other states that have tried to raise uh their sports betting taxes you know the
15:45lawmakers in ohio said no to the wine's suggestion of doubling it but again they just doubled it in 2023 so
15:53maybe that's why there wasn't the appetite there maryland they raised it a little bit in discussions
15:58we're still waiting to see finalizing there and new jersey uh we're not sure exactly what's happening
16:04yet either but certainly there's not a ton of appetite to boost them too much but you know maybe
16:10if it's for a good cause like college athletics maybe they will yeah no and it does make sense and
16:16and maybe something to set precedent around the country for those places that are looking to make
16:20more money so they can help out their college athletes get paid more who thought i would be
16:25saying that several years ago but here we are uh all right so uh shocking development here in chicago
16:30they they don't don't really like the idea of people betting on each other playing papa shot at
16:34dave and busters why am i why am i so shocked here to hear this i don't know and this you know this
16:39came out last year when dave and buster said hey we're gonna allow customers to in our app bet again
16:46they they refrain from using bet or wager but you can compete against fellow customers
16:51at papa shot or ski ball or whatever um illinois tried to pass a bill last year it didn't go
16:58anywhere they're doing it again this year to say hey that's not okay we regulate our games very
17:03our sports betting and our online poker and the like very carefully this isn't okay a couple other
17:10states also tried similar avenues last year ohio and pennsylvania nothing yet but it is certainly an
17:17interesting development here at dave and busters and they're offering in their app pat have a great
17:23rest of your week i'm sure we'll talk again soon thanks for coming on yeah i'll see you soon craig
