00:00
Let's not forget, last night, the debut of Luka Doncic.
00:02
We'll get to that in just a sec.
00:04
First, let's start off with the NBA,
00:06
and a story that definitely seems to be progressing
00:09
in the direction of the Minnesota Timberwolves
00:11
potentially being sold.
00:13
An arbiter ruled yesterday that, indeed,
00:16
Mark Lohr, Alex Rodriguez,
00:18
that is the group that is potentially trying
00:20
to buy the Timberwolves,
00:22
they have been approved
00:24
as the next majority ownership group of the Timberwolves.
00:27
You may remember that Glenn Taylor,
00:30
the owner of the Timberwolves,
00:31
simply wanted to pull back the sale
00:34
that he had already agreed to
00:36
because of financing issues
00:38
with the Lohr-Alex Rodriguez group,
00:41
but the arbitrators determined
00:42
that Taylor has violated terms of the sale agreement
00:45
when he announced last March
00:47
that Lohr and Rodriguez missed a deadline
00:49
for a $600 million payment.
00:52
Lohr and Rodriguez disputed that,
00:54
saying that they thought they had another 90 days
00:56
to get it done.
00:56
In fact, they also say that they have the money in escrow
00:59
to make the final payment,
01:01
but right now, the other owners,
01:03
or as they say, the current governors
01:04
involved in the National Basketball Association,
01:06
are going to vote on this,
01:08
and they will need 23 of the 30 current teams
01:12
or governors to approve the sale,
01:14
and if so, that would mean Glenn Taylor is out
01:17
and Mark Lohr and A-Rod are in.
01:20
They also released a statement
01:22
saying that they were happy with the decision.
01:24
Needless to say, the approval process
01:26
can close the transaction,
01:27
and they want to be part of the Twin Cities in the future.
01:30
As of right now, the last hurdle to clear
01:33
will be the vote by the other ownership groups in the NBA.
01:37
23 out of 30, they become the owners.
01:40
If not, it goes back to Glenn Taylor.
01:43
The Lake Show continued last night.
01:45
The debut of Luka Doncic went pretty well,
01:48
132 to 113, the final,
01:51
as Luka ends up having a nice game in his debut.
01:54
It was the first game played for Luka,
01:57
while on the other side, Anthony Davis is out.
01:59
Luka enjoyed the reception from the fans last night,
02:03
also had a very good plus-minus
02:04
when he was on the court as well,
02:06
but talked about the reception that he received.
02:09
Being special, the way they received me,
02:12
everybody, it was amazing to see.
02:15
I was a little nervous before.
02:17
I mean, it was the last time I was nervous before the game,
02:20
so, but once I stepped on the court, it was fun,
02:23
and just being out there again felt amazing.
02:28
The camera and the microphone picked up LeBron
02:31
telling you in the pregame huddle to be you,
02:34
don't try to fit in, fit out.
02:36
What did that message mean to you,
02:37
and what does it look like for you to fit out with this team?
02:42
I mean, it's, like I said before, it's special,
02:45
you know, for him to say something like that
02:47
just feels amazing, give me confidence,
02:48
and, you know, after that speech, it was chills,
02:52
so I was just happy to be part of it.
02:56
Let's go now over to the Super Bowl,
02:58
and the viewership numbers are in.
03:00
No surprise, the Super Bowl averaged a record
03:03
126 million viewers, according to Fox,
03:06
it peaked at 135.7, highest-watched Super Bowl
03:09
of all time, that's been the case
03:10
virtually every single season.
03:12
Brock Purdy looks like he's got an opportunity
03:14
to stay in San Francisco,
03:15
or at least their owner seems to think so.
03:17
Jed York says they will do everything
03:19
to extend Brock Purdy to keep him in Santa Clara.
03:22
By the way, the Super Bowl is there next year.
03:24
The New York Giants have hired Chad Hall
03:25
as assistant quarterback's coach,
03:27
and also Ken Dorsey, former offensive coordinator
03:29
for the Bills and Browns, and former quarterback
03:32
at the University of Miami, is set to join
03:34
the Dallas Cowboys as a pass game specialist.
03:37
In the NBA, the Hornets are right now
03:40
in a little bit of a transition,
03:42
needless to say, over this trade,
03:44
to dispute Mark Williams's failed Lakers physical.
03:47
The trade was rescinded over the weekend,
03:49
he was traded for Dalton Connect,
03:51
a trade that could still happen, but stay tuned.
03:54
All-stars Evan Mobley, Donovan Mitchell
03:56
lead the Cavs to a 128 to 107 win
03:59
over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
04:01
Cleveland's playing great basketball,
04:02
and they're also getting some help.
04:03
DeAndre Hunter has joined their squad,
04:06
and Mitchell, after the game, talked about
04:07
the defense that Hunter played
04:09
and the difference that it made.
04:10
I think it was great.
04:11
I think for him to come in,
04:13
and we just kept it simple on offense.
04:15
Defensively, you saw the impact he has.
04:17
We're guarding one of the best players in the NBA,
04:20
making it tough for him to start the game.
04:21
I think he started off 2 of 10, 2 of 11,
04:25
turnovers, different things, just from his activity,
04:27
us being in the gaps.
04:28
It sets a tone.
04:29
When he's up there pressuring the ball,
04:31
we're all in the gaps, we're all doing our thing.
04:32
That's what he really, that's what he brings.
04:34
You know what I mean?
04:35
And obviously on the offensive end,
04:36
continuing to find his spots
04:38
and being aggressive and different things.
04:39
So for the first game, it's definitely great to have him,
04:43
and we're excited because it's something
04:44
we continue to build with and get better.
04:47
Yeah, I didn't like much about us tonight, you know.
04:50
You know, our start, you know, we missed shots.
04:55
I thought we would kind of figure out
04:58
how to get into the game.
04:59
You know, I didn't like our toughness tonight.
05:03
You know, I didn't like our offense at all.
05:05
I thought it just kind of bogged down,
05:06
and their switching did some of that too,
05:08
but I didn't think we were very, you know,
05:12
I didn't think we were super intelligent
05:14
on that side of the floor.
05:17
Yeah, I didn't like our kind of resistance when it mattered.
05:21
You know, we'd been playing way better than that.
05:24
So it wasn't a lot to like about tonight.
05:28
Long winning streak continued last night
05:31
for the Denver Nuggets.
05:32
They won their seventh straight game
05:34
and the offensive output 146
05:37
on the Portland Trailblazers last night.
05:38
Nikola Jokic, no triple-double.
05:40
He did have 40 points, seven rebounds, eight assists,
05:43
and Jokic, after the game,
05:45
talked about the little things and the ball distribution,
05:49
meaning the reason why they had such a good offensive effort.
05:52
I didn't. I mean, we had 44 assists, of course.
05:55
That's a, like I said,
05:56
you need to make sure to have a lot of assists.
06:00
I mean, we attacked the paint.
06:02
We didn't shoot well for the three,
06:04
but we attacked the paint,
06:06
and I think that's a high percentage shot.
06:11
Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not good,
06:12
but today was really good for us,
06:14
and I think CB, like, he was really leading the break,
06:18
leading the transition.
06:19
He played really well for us,
06:20
and I think when we attack in transition,
06:24
we are playing fast.
06:25
It's really good for us.
06:27
29 fast break points, 88 in the paint,
06:29
44 assists, only 10 turnovers.
06:31
I mean, the offensive numbers across the board
06:33
were just incredible,
06:35
and the efficiency in which we were able to do that,
06:38
and much is always made of other Nuggets.
06:41
You know, I think somebody said
06:43
we got to diversify our offense at one point.
06:45
Why?
06:46
You know, stick with what's working.
06:48
You know, we put up 146 points,
06:51
and, you know, we've led the league
06:52
all year long to this point
06:54
as we approach the all-star break
06:55
in fast break points and paint points and assists,
06:59
and that's how we do it.
07:01
Hard to argue with Mike Malone at this point.
07:03
Also hard to argue that SGA is the MVP
07:06
and Oklahoma City is the best team in the NBA.
07:08
I mean, those two things reign true again.
07:10
31 points for SGA last night,
07:11
137 for Oklahoma City, just 101 for the Pelicans.
07:15
He's averaging 37 points over his last 10 games.
07:18
Also, Chet Holmgren back for Oklahoma City
07:20
talked after the win last night.
07:21
Yeah.
07:22
I'd say the biggest thing is just emphasizing
07:27
the importance of each individual play.
07:29
You can look up and be like, you know, we're up 20.
07:31
It's time for, you know, me to try to do this
07:34
or this person trying to do this,
07:36
but that's not our focus.
07:37
We're out there trying to really get better
07:39
every single play as a five-man unit,
07:41
no matter who's out there.
07:42
And when you do that, you're able to really kind of
07:45
build on the last play and the play before that
07:47
and just, you know, be relentless against the other team.
07:50
I feel like that's what we were able to do tonight
07:52
and in the games before, no matter who's out there.
07:56
Just continue to make it really hard for the other team.
07:59
And, you know, it's been shown on the scoreboard.
08:02
The new AP Top 25 is out
08:05
and three of the top five teams
08:07
are in the Southeastern Conference.
08:09
We actually make that four out of five.
08:11
Auburn, number one.
08:12
Alabama, number two.
08:13
Florida, number three.
08:14
Duke, four.
08:14
And Tennessee, five.
08:15
Auburn was number one last week, by the way,
08:18
but they lost to Florida.
08:19
Alabama moves up to number two.
08:21
Number six, Houston beats Baylor 76 to 65.
08:24
Clemson takes care of North Carolina.
08:26
Final score, 85 to 65.
08:30
Also, Kenley Jansen reunited in Southern California.
08:33
This time, it's the Angels.
08:35
What year's Engels now?
