00:00Hello there, welcome to the month of May. Welcome to another episode of Putting Dr. G on the Spot.

00:06On this occasion, we're talking about one virus, one important virus that causes

00:11sexually transmitted infection called human papillomavirus.

00:22HPV is what is known as human papillomavirus. Actually, it's a virus that can transmit

00:28between men and women during sexual activity. So therefore, when somebody actually has not

00:37started sexual activity at all, then there's no chance of human papillomavirus getting infections.

00:45So what are the organs that can cause infection? That can occur in the penis, it can occur in the

00:52anus, oral pharyngeal cavities, and also in the vagina and the cervix. So we're going to focus on

00:59the penis causing something called genital warts and penile cancer. So we know HPV is a type of virus

01:08that actually can potentially be low risk and high risk. And when during sexually transmitted infection,

01:15the HPV can actually harbor around the penis itself. And then with time, hopefully, the individual can

01:24clear this infection with their own immunity. But strangely enough, women can clear this much easier

01:30than men. So when men don't clear the infection throughout the time, and then that infection

01:36sometimes can emerge as something called genital warts. Genital warts is very unsightly. And that itself

01:44can also cause some sort of like transformation and eventually result in penile cancer. So obviously,

01:53penile cancer is not very common, but genital warts is increasingly common and exceedingly common

02:01amongst individuals in men and women. So how do you prevent this? In fact, the easiest way to do it

02:10is actually do a vaccination. Vaccination, the latest version or generation of vaccine actually covers

02:18four to nine types of HPV. And with this vaccine, somebody is protected from actual future contacts

02:28that they have not contracted before. If they contracted this, they will build up their immune system

02:34and suppress any recurrence. So how effective is it in men? In fact, HPV vaccine can actually induce 100%

02:44of zero conversion after seven months of vaccination. And after 10 years of vaccination,

02:51in zero cases of genital warts, all cancer is detected. And it can accumulate 90% of zero conversion

02:59even after 10 years. So therefore, vaccination is crucial in order to protect women from getting

03:07cervical cancer and also men from getting genital warts and also penile cancer. So on that note,
