00:00This week, we hope that somebody, if we unfortunately get diagnosis of prostate cancer, we diagnose

00:07it early, when it is stage 1 or stage 2, the cancer can be eliminated and cured completely.

00:19Sadly, one statistic that you need to be aware of, that two-thirds of prostate cancer in

00:24Malaysia are detected too late. It's either stage 3 or stage 4 and therefore are not eligible

00:31for curing intervention. So the most notable curing intervention actually is radical surgery.

00:41And this operation can be done several ways. The old traditional way is an open operation

00:46to remove the prostate itself. The second way actually is laparoscopic or keyhole surgery.

00:53But perhaps the most advanced way of radical prostatectomy is using a robotic assistant.

01:00The robot itself will have the absolute advantage of looking at the tumour in different angles

01:07and also have a minimal invasiveness. Such precision medicine will also have the advantage

01:15of complete cancer clearance and also reducing of the complications. The two most horrified

01:24complications that men may undergo or may face are incontinence of urine and also the

01:31problems of erectile dysfunction after radical surgery. The robotic surgery is minimizing

01:39the risk of radical problems that is related to incontinence and also erectile dysfunction.

01:47So apart from robotic surgery, what else is available? There are other treatments such

01:53as brachytherapy or even cryotherapy. However, we are sometimes not encouraging patients

02:00to do that because number one, the experience of such intervention may not be as big as

02:06radical prostatectomy using robot. And also number two is that such treatment may leave

02:13behind the tissue that may suddenly turn into cancers in the future. Another type of treatment

02:20is radical radiotherapy. These are external beam radiotherapy. We usually reserve these

02:29treatment for patients who are perhaps not fit for operation or declining the radical

02:36robotic surgery. So now you know there are several ways to cure prostate cancer and therefore

02:43the best thing to do is get the cancer detected early and elimination is completely possible.
