Hello there, happy new year, happy 2025 and welcome to the brand new episode of
00:06
putting Dr. G on the spot in the new year. And for the whole month we're
00:10
focusing on various new year resolutions. I know some of you are starting with a
00:15
healthy lifestyle of lots of exercises, others are making sure that they are
00:20
well hydrated and some of you are paying particular attention to diet.
00:31
And today we're going to talk about what diet will you need to focus on if you
00:36
want to prevent aging prostate. So the prostate itself is a walnut size
00:41
structure that lies between the bladder and the penis itself. So when the prostate
00:47
enlarges it will cause obstruction and that obstruction can sometimes result in
00:52
slowness of urination. How do you prevent this? In fact there are quite a few diet
00:58
can be changed in order to improve that. One of the most well-known one is
01:03
tomatoes. Tomato contains something called lycopene to predominantly lies
01:08
outside the skin itself. An excess amount of lycopene is well known to reduce the
01:15
progressions of aging process of prostate. In fact there are some study
01:20
even show that it reduces the risk of cancer. So tomato is number one. Number
01:27
two is cruciferous vegetables like cabbages, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and
01:34
also cauliflowers. And all these vegetable contains cruciferous component
01:40
that is antioxidant. That itself will stop the progressions of prostate by
01:47
reducing the dihydrotestosterone which is the active form of testosterone that
01:52
makes prostate enlarge. Apart from that one thing that is really important is
01:58
soya beans and also nuts and peanuts. They contains a lot of zinc and also
02:03
contains something called phytoestrogen. Phyto means plant. Estrogen is a natural
02:09
component of a female hormone and that definitely can have an impact in
02:14
suppressing the progressions of prostate. However apart from focusing on food that
02:21
will be good for prostate, you should also think about food that's not so good
02:25
for prostate. These are food that contains animal fat. So we're looking at
02:29
lard and also butter. Perhaps think of alternative such as margarine which is
02:36
vegetable oil. And the other things that's not so good for prostate is
02:41
shellfish and also red meat. Red meat such as beef and lamb perhaps to reduce
02:48
a little bit in the new year. And other things to cut down on will be spicy food
02:54
which contains capsaicin. Might stimulate the prostate. For next week we're
02:59
focusing more on diet and how the diet can change your sperm quality. Stay tuned
03:05
for next week's Putting Dr. G on the Spot.
