Hello, my name is Amber Allett and I'm a journalist specialising in education.
00:05
Temperatures across the UK have been creeping up this week and over the next few days it's expected to get hotter still.
00:12
With children back at school for a sweltering start to the summer term,
00:16
some parents might be wondering how they'll be kept safe from the heat and whether there's a chance they'll be sent home.
00:21
Here are a few of the rules and guidelines that schools have to follow when it comes to high temperatures.
00:26
Interestingly, there is currently no legal maximum temperature for classrooms,
00:32
but they do fall under workplace health and safety regulations,
00:36
which means temperatures must be kept at a reasonable level.
00:39
Schools also need to have fresh air flow, whether that be from an open window or from air conditioning,
00:44
and if conditions become extreme, they need to consider special measures like electric fans or portable air cooling equipment.
00:51
While your child's school doesn't legally need to close if it becomes very hot,
00:55
the headteacher can opt to temporarily close the school if they believe the heat is becoming a risk to students' safety.
01:02
Although children need to be allowed access to water at school,
01:05
schools don't have to let them have water bottles in class or loosen their uniform rules.
01:11
But the Department for Education does encourage them to do both.
01:15
It also recommends adjusting lesson plans so that children don't have to take part in any vigorous activities on hot days,
01:21
opening windows before children arrive for the day,
01:24
not leaving electronics on standby mode,
01:27
and using fans to increase air movement, so long as the temperature is below 35 degrees.
01:32
The Department for Education is shortly after dwelling in aì fi latin,
01:36
thank you for waiting for that period of time.
01:39
Because I don't prepare for it for the season because of the air in classroomsâ
01:42
the same minimum snow is below 30,
01:44

01:45
Tech built in an air in the air in the air in the air box

When I like the sea space going forward to a high mountain level,

01:55
So I like the ice if I share on the airs where this place is below 37,
01:56
and I like sides how it's below 37enia on the air in the air.
01:58
The ice converge there because my parents are a lot of the fire that is below the air.
