00:00All right, Manny, what the heck is in a hot dog?
00:03Because you said you have an article that's going to tell us once and for all.
00:07Yeah, this is from Tasting Table, the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, as you know,
00:12I'm a board member of.
00:13I have to be honest.
00:14They have released what's in the hot dog.
00:15I have to be honest with you.
00:16I'm not 100% sure that I really want to know because growing up, like I do not like hot
00:22dogs just based on the fact that I've always been told that it's like weird parts of animals
00:28like lips and bums.

00:40Yeah, it's like all the things that don't get used in normal food.
00:45As I just said, 43% of Americans are frightened about the contents of their hot dog, according
00:52to a poll from Newswire in 2018.
00:56There's really no reason to be scared.
00:58Because I'm going to drum roll this.
01:01The item that is in the hot dog is water.
01:10Water is the main ingredient inside a hot dog.
01:1457%, so that's more than half, is water, according to a study.
01:19But what are the others?
01:20Well, of course, meat is another main component that comes from beef, pork, and chicken.
01:25I'll stick to my veggie dogs.
01:27Now, the casings are made from animal intestines.
01:31Okay, that's where we've got to stop now.
01:33Or animal source collagens and blinders and flavorings like cherry powder and celery are
01:38used as well, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.
01:42But they warned to check the back of the packaging because every hot dog maker makes theirs.
01:47The casings different.
01:48But water is the main ingredient.
01:49My son Jackson has just become obsessed with sausages, and I have the same reaction to
01:56a sausage that I do a hot dog, and I'm literally feeding it to him last night like, ooh.

02:05And we eat the turkey sausage, which is actually pretty good.
02:09I forget the brand.
02:10But we eat the turkey sausage.
02:12At least then you know it's just turkey lips and bums.
02:14And then you just cut the turkey in half, bang, you got yourself a hot dog.
02:17So there you have it.
02:18Water is the main ingredient in a hot dog.
02:21So enjoy it if you're one of the 20 billion who will consume a hot dog this year alone.
