00:00
Joseph, it is time to talk about the most dropped players.
00:03
There's one player who's already gone down to AAA.
00:06
There's another player who's been suspended.
00:09
So let's have this conversation.
00:10
Where do you want to go first?
00:12
Well, let's talk about Bednar here,
00:14
because Bednar was supposed to be the closer for the Pirates
00:17
going into this year.
00:18
That was a little tenuous.
00:19
And, well, the first couple outings did not go so great.
00:23
So they ended up opting him to AAA.
00:25
So in the meantime, Dennis Santana and Colin Holderman
00:28
are the top candidates for saves.
00:29
Now, I watched Holderman pitch.
00:31
He didn't look great trying to hold the eighth inning
00:35
against the Rays last week when I watched him.
00:37
Santana ended up coming in and getting the save
00:39
in that game eventually.
00:40
So Santana seems to be, like, the guy for now.
00:43
The question is, do you hold Bednar
00:44
as he tries to get right in AAA?
00:47
That becomes the big question.
00:49
I think the answer is no.
00:50
I'm not holding on to him.
00:51
If Luke Jackson's available, if Santana's available,
00:53
I'm just making this straight move personally,
00:56
because Bednar going into the season
00:57
was already a little rough.
00:59
If you start to look at the deeper numbers on him,
01:03
they haven't been very good.
01:05
If you're looking at the trend lines,
01:07
they've all been going in the wrong direction.
01:08
And Bednar at one point was a pretty cost-effective closer,
01:12
right?
01:12
A guy who's like, oh, he's the closer of the Pirates.
01:14
You know, you go back all the way to just a 20-23.
01:17
Pretty solid.
01:17
A two ERA the year before that.
01:19
A 2-6 ERA, 2-23.
01:20
He's always been in that range.
01:22
Not a dominant strikeout guy, but a guy getting out.
01:24
And then last year, that ERA ballooned to 5-7-7.
01:28
So that was over a whole season of 57 innings as the closer.
01:32
It was not good for him.
01:33
He blew a lot of saves.
01:34
So I think they were trying to give him
01:35
the benefit of the doubt going into this year.
01:37
And so far, it's just been doubt now.
01:39
And now they've moved to a AAA, and it
01:41
seems like Bednar is going to, until he figures things out,
01:44
not only does he have to figure things out
01:46
to get better to move back to the major leagues,
01:48
but then if Santana, let's say, is dominant in that role,
01:51
why are you making that pivot?
01:52
What are you doing that for?
01:53
Bednar would just work the eighth or somewhere else.
01:55
So it's not a guarantee he even gets that job back.
01:57
So I'm a drop of Bednar.
01:59
But I'm curious, in this competitive save landscape
02:04
that we're always looking for saves wherever we can get them,
02:06
is Bednar a hold for you?
02:07
Or will you be dropping him to the waiver wire as well?
02:10
Joseph, let me answer you in song.
02:14
I'm sorry, Luke Jackson.
02:16
I am for real.
02:18
Never meant to make the Rangers cry.
02:20
No, no, here's the thing, dude.
02:21
David Bednar's in AAA.
02:22
And if you love David Bednar, and you drafted David Bednar,
02:25
and you don't want to drop David Bednar,
02:26
I want to be in a league with you.
02:28
Because here's what I do.
02:29
I find out the David Bednar manager, and bam,
02:31
I'm dropping a trade on him now.
02:33
I don't know when he's going to trade in April,
02:34
but still, some of these people panic.
02:36
No, I'm not holding on to David Bednar.
02:38
You mentioned Santana, Holderman, Luke Jackson.
02:41
There's so many guys out there.
02:43
You can stream saves.
02:44
Don't knock yourself out.
02:45
Don't pull your hair out over something like this.
02:47
He'll end up looking like Joe.
02:48
And the problem with that is you'll
02:49
never be as smart as him.
02:51
And that's the thing.
02:51
Now, you're just, you're ugly and you're dumb.
02:54
Now, what are you going to do?
02:54
All right, you're not ugly.
02:55
You're actually a very handsome man.
02:57
You give great face.
02:58
Very good.
02:59
Talk to me about this next outfielder
03:01
that has been mulched around.
03:03
Well, we started the whole show with Jerickson Profar,
03:07
who, 80 game suspension.
03:09
And in 99.9% of leagues, it's really difficult
03:13
to hold this guy, because you can't IL him.
03:14
He's not on the injured list.
03:15
He's just taking up a bench spot.
03:17
So in shallow leagues, you absolutely cut him.
03:19
Deeper leagues become a little bit more of a conversation.
03:21
But if you're looking around at who's out there,
03:23
the Victor Scott's of the world, you know,
03:25
we talked about him last week on The Wayward Wire.
03:27
He's all the way up to 71%.
03:29
Still available in 30% of leagues.
03:31
If you're looking for Mangum of Tampa Bay,
03:36
Roden on Toronto, there's a lot of guys out there
03:40
in the outfield that you can start to speculate on,
03:43
that even a couple other players we're going to talk
03:45
about coming up too, that I think are far more worthy
03:48
of a roster spot than waiting on Profar
03:50
halfway through the season.
03:51
If you really like Profar and you want to get back
03:53
into the business, drop him now,
03:56
and then hope that somebody else doesn't pick him up.
03:58
I don't think they will.
03:59
And then eventually you try to, you know,
04:02
somewhere around June, pick him back up
04:04
and hope that you can stash him again as he's coming back.
04:06
That's the best case scenario for Profar.
04:08
But Matt, he's just a terrible anchor
04:11
on your roster at this point.
04:12
You can't do it, right?
