Hello there, a very good evening to you. Hope you've had a lovely weekend, though do count
00:05
yourself lucky if you have seen any sunshine. Most of us have instead been plagued by quite
00:09
grey and gloomy skies. This cloudy theme is set to continue over the next few days and
00:16
that of course includes the forthcoming night. There will be some outbreaks of drizzle and
00:20
light rain around, particularly for Northern Ireland and western areas of Scotland. Eastern
00:24
Scotland will probably hold on to the clearest skies overnight, but we could see that cloud
00:28
breaking across other areas of England and Wales as well. Where that cloud does break,
00:33
certainly temperatures will drop off. Some patchy frost will be around in rural areas
00:37
particularly, but even if you hold on to the cloud, for most of us there will be a chill
00:41
in the air first thing on Monday morning. There may also be some isolated areas of fog
00:47
and mist around first thing, so it could be a bit murky to start off the new week, particularly
00:52
across areas of Northern Ireland as you're heading back to work. But here in the north-west
00:56
we'll see some clearer and sunnier spells developing during the day as this band of
01:00
rain pushes more into northern areas of England. For most of England and Wales it is certainly
01:05
going to be quite a cloudy day, and with the lack of sunshine again, it's going to feel
01:08
quite chilly in places. Four or five degrees Celsius is your top temperatures, going towards
01:13
the north-west we'll be pushing towards eight or nine degrees Celsius. On Tuesday we are
01:19
going to see an area of low pressure just push its way slightly closer to the north-west
01:23
of the UK, and this occluded front here is going to help to start to pep up some showers
01:27
and that will be pushing further inland across western areas of Scotland. A few of those
01:32
will be on the sharp side, some hail, maybe the odd rumble of thunder in there as well.
01:36
We'll still have this lingering band of rain across northern England into northern Wales
01:40
as well, but hopefully elsewhere we will start to see a few more breaks in that cloud on
01:44
Tuesday compared to Monday. A bit more brightness, a bit more sunshine trying to poke its way
01:48
through at times. Temperatures though are still struggling a little bit for the time
01:53
of year, generally ranging between five and seven degrees Celsius. To understand the weather
01:59
that will be coming to us during the latter stages of this next week though, we have to
02:03
transition to the other side of the Atlantic. We're currently seeing a marked cold wave
02:08
across areas of the United States with cold plunge coming in from the Arctic. Where there's
02:14
contrast with the mild air in the south that is helping to fuel a very powerful jet stream
02:20
in the Atlantic. We could see that reaching speeds of over 200 miles per hour, this fast
02:25
ribbon of air high up in the atmosphere. What this is going to do though is pick up an area
02:32
of low pressure in the Atlantic and start to very rapidly deepen it, particularly once
02:37
it moves onto the left hand side of the jet stream. You can see here by Thursday a lot
02:41
of ice bars around this area of low pressure indicating it is a very deep feature. That
02:47
will continue its journey towards the UK as we move into Friday and the weekend, bringing
02:52
potential for some very strong winds, heavy rain and snowfall around at times as well.
02:57
So there is the potential certainly for some disruption as we head towards the end of this
03:02
week and it is worth staying up to date with the forecast for the full details. We'll provide
03:06
plenty more of that on the YouTube channel, across social media as well. Otherwise, we'll
03:10
see you again here later on. Bye bye.
