00:00
Good morning, this is the latest on the situation in Bagyong Leon.
00:06
As of 4 a.m., the center of Bagyong Leon was last seen
00:11
at 645 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
00:16
And the severe tropical storm is still continuing,
00:18
although it is getting stronger.
00:20
There is a strong wind of 110 kilometers per hour.
00:24
There is a thunderstorm of 135 kilometers per hour
00:28
and it is moving west-northwestward at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.
00:32
We can see here in our latest satellite image,
00:35
the rain bands of Bagyong Leon are affecting
00:38
some parts of Bicol Region and some parts of Eastern Visayas.
00:42
And as the storm is getting closer,
00:45
the rain bands will most likely fall during the rainy season
00:50
here in the eastern part of Luzon.
00:52
That is why our people are continuously being careful
00:55
because there is still a possibility of rain today.
00:58
Be extra careful, especially in areas that are still experiencing flooding.
01:03
Later, we will know the areas that may experience heavy rains
01:08
in the next few days.
01:11
Let's know what our latest track forecast has as of 5 a.m.
01:16
We have the forecast track, or the central track,
01:19
or the movement of Bagyong Leon in the next few days.
01:23
We also have what we call the forecast probability cone.
01:26
That is the area that is shaded or highlighted in white.
01:30
That is where it is possible for Bagyong Leon to pass
01:34
in the next few days.
01:36
We also have the forecast intensity.
01:38
That is what is expected to be the strength or category of the storm
01:42
as it continues to move inside our Philippine Area of Responsibility.
01:48
And the area that is highlighted in yellow or shaded yellow,
01:52
that is the radius of the storm.
01:54
That is where you will experience the strong winds
01:56
that Bagyong Leon will bring.
01:59
Based on our latest forecast track, Bagyong Leon will continue to move
02:03
generally north-westward.
02:05
And because Batanes is inside the forecast probability cone,
02:09
we do not exclude the possibility of a landfall.
02:13
Bagyong Leon in Batanes, if it does not landfall,
02:17
it is possible that it will approach the center.
02:19
Our next landfall scenario is here in the southeastern portion of Taiwan.
02:26
Meanwhile, based on our intensity forecast,
02:29
there is a high possibility that Bagyong Leon will get stronger
02:33
as the east coast of our country continues to move.
02:37
We do not exclude the possibility that in the next 12 hours,
02:41
it could reach the typhoon category.
02:45
And it will continue to get stronger as the extreme northern zone area moves.
02:50
It could come out of our Philippine Area of Responsibility
02:53
on Thursday night or Friday morning.
02:56
And as it continues to move north-westward,
02:59
we do not exclude the possibility that it will get stronger.
03:03
If it is in the area of Batanes or the southeastern portion of Taiwan,
03:07
it could reach the super typhoon category.
03:11
If we look at our latest track forecast,
03:14
the radius of Bagyong Leon is also wide.
03:17
Some parts of the Libicol Region are within the radius of the typhoon.
03:21
And as Bagyong Leon continues to approach,
03:24
more areas will be able to enter the radius
03:28
or the strong wind carried by Bagyong Leon.
03:31
That is why Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is high
03:35
in the provinces of Batanes,
03:37
along with the Babuyan Islands,
03:39
Isabela, Quirino,
03:41
Nueva Vizcaya,
03:43
Calinga,
03:46
Abra,
03:47
Apayao,
03:49
Mountain Province,
03:50
Ifugao,
03:51
Benguet,
03:52
Ilocos Norte,
03:53
Ilocos Sur,
03:54
La Union,
03:55
Aurora,
03:56
and the northern portion of Quezon along with the Polillo Islands.
04:01
Signal No. 1 is also high in Camarines Norte,
04:05
in the eastern portion of Camarines Sur,
04:07
in the province of Catanduanes,
04:09
in the eastern portion of Albay,
04:11
in the northeastern portion of Sorsogon,
04:13
and in Visayas.
04:14
Signal No. 1 is also high in the eastern portion of Northern Samar
04:18
and the northern portion of Eastern Samar.
04:20
This is the highlighted area of light blue
04:22
for the next 36 hours
04:24
while Bagyong Leon continues to approach.
04:26
It is possible for us to experience the strong winds
04:29
carried by this storm.
04:33
When it comes to the rains carried by Bagyong Leon,
04:36
the same is the case for the trough or extension
04:38
of this storm that is being monitored.
04:40
Today until Thursday,
04:43
mostly portions of Northern Luzon,
04:46
as well as the western portion of our country,
04:48
it is possible for the strong rains
04:50
brought by this storm that is being monitored.
04:53
This is based on our latest weather advisory
04:56
as of 5 a.m.
04:58
Based on our weather advisory,
05:00
this is the forecast.
05:01
Accumulated rainfall for the next 24 hours.
05:04
This is the total accumulated rainfall for the next 24 hours.
05:08
It is possible to experience more than 200 mm.
05:12
Today, in Batanes,
05:14
as well as in Cagayan,
05:15
along with Baboyan Islands.
05:17
Heavy to intense rains.
05:19
Today, it is possible to experience
05:21
in Ilocos Norte,
05:22
Apayau,
05:23
Occidental Mindoro,
05:24
and Antique.
05:25
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains in Ilocos Sur,
05:28
Isabela,
05:29
Abra,
05:30
Calinga,
05:31
Calamian Islands,
05:32
Romblon,
05:33
Negros Occidental,
05:34
and Aclan.
05:35
We will notice that not only areas of Northern Luzon,
05:37
but also some parts of Central Luzon,
05:39
will experience rains.
05:42
Also in the western portions of Mimaropa,
05:45
Central Luzon,
05:46
as well as Western Visayas.
05:48
Until Thursday,
05:50
and if it starts tomorrow,
05:52
it is also possible for heavy rains
05:54
around moderate to heavy intensity
05:56
in the areas of Bataan, Cavite, and Batanga.
05:59
So, it is three days in a row of rains.
06:01
There is a high possibility of floods
06:03
or landslides.
06:05
That is why, until now,
06:06
our people have been prepared and taken care of.
06:09
Especially, the areas that are currently experiencing floods.
06:15
So, outside the areas where
06:17
the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is high,
06:20
it is also possible for strong winds
06:23
to bring this typhoon.
06:25
So, there is a chance that we will still experience
06:27
strong winds until Thursday,
06:30
especially in the areas of Bataan,
06:32
Metro Manila,
06:34
Calabarzon,
06:35
Mimaropa,
06:36
Pico Region,
06:37
Visayas,
06:38
Dinagat Islands,
06:39
Surigao del Norte,
06:40
and so on,
06:41
until Thursday.
06:44
In the condition of our ocean,
06:46
there is a high possibility of floods
06:49
or landslides
06:51
in the coastal areas of Batanes,
06:53
along with Boboyan Islands,
06:55
Isabela,
06:56
Ilocos Norte,
06:57
Aurora,
06:58
Quezon,
06:59
along with Polilio Islands,
07:00
as well as in the coastal areas
07:02
of Camarines Norte,
07:04
and Catanduanes.
07:05
It is very dangerous,
07:06
especially for our countrymen
07:08
who have small sea vehicles,
07:09
because it is possible for the landslides
07:12
to reach up to 8 meters.
07:16
That is the latest from the
07:18
ASA Weather Forecasting Center.
07:20
I am Rhea Torres.
07:21
Let us continue to be careful.
07:23
Thank you and good morning.
