Thanks for joining me for this latest update from the Met Office. More wet
00:04
weather is sweeping its way in across the UK. There'll be plenty more showers to
00:08
come through the weekend. Here's the reason why. A whopper of an area of low
00:13
pressure sitting out in the Atlantic but it is slowly drifting towards us and its
00:17
weather fronts are moving across us right now bringing a spell of persistent
00:21
rain. It should clear through on Saturday morning but the low continues to
00:24
dominate and around it we'll see bands of showers drifting in during the
00:29
course of Sunday. Let's rewind and come back to these weather fronts bringing
00:34
rain in through the evening time to Northern Ireland, Wales and southwest
00:38
England. Met Office yellow warning for rain in place for parts of southeast
00:42
Northern Ireland and then from midnight over Wales and southwest England. A lot
00:45
of spray and surface water on the roads here but it doesn't stop there. Most
00:49
places turning soggy by the time we get to Saturday morning. It'll also be
00:53
turning quite windy as the breeze picks up as that rain moves in but that breeze
00:58
will also be bringing milder air so temperatures will actually tend to rise
01:02
through the night before the rain arrives. Could see some frost across
01:05
northern Scotland but these are the numbers by dawn in the south double
01:08
digits. Some areas may start the weekend in the teens but we're certainly going to
01:12
start with wet weather over southwest England and south Wales. As I said a lot
01:16
of spray and surface water on the roads here. Not very pleasant parts of the M4 and
01:20
the M5. The heavier rain will work from west to east quite quickly through the
01:25
morning and actually many places after a damp start should turn brighter.
01:30
Certainly across Wales, western England and the Midlands even before lunchtime
01:33
it should start to cheer up. The rain may linger in East Anglia and Kent well into
01:38
the afternoon and there'll be more showers coming into western Scotland and
01:41
Northern Ireland through the day but for a good chunk of the country it will
01:45
brighten up after that damp start. It will stay fairly breezy however some
01:49
gusty conditions particularly over Shetland where it stays damp and cold.
01:53
Single figures here and parts of northern Scotland may stick in single
01:56
digits but for most places that mild array will be noticeable. I think if it
02:01
brightens up 13, 14 maybe even 15 or 16 in one or two locations. During Saturday
02:07
evening we'll continue to see the rain clearing away from East Anglia and Kent
02:11
but it does linger in Shetland and then just more showers coming in. That low
02:15
pressure is now getting closer and closer. It's just sending the showers in
02:18
from the Atlantic and that'll be the case as we head into Sunday with a gusty
02:23
wind in the south. The winds will be stronger in the south during the course
02:27
of Sunday. A lot of cloud around, bands of showers moving in. It won't rain all day
02:30
there'll be some drier and brighter interludes and probably not too many
02:34
showers in eastern Scotland. Decent chance here of some sunny spells but for
02:38
many as I say a lot of cloud, showers on and off through the day blown along by a
02:42
gusty wind across the south and that will temper the temperatures. They will
02:47
be on the mild side for the time of year but it will feel cooler because of the
02:51
strength of the wind. If you're after something a little drier well into next
02:55
week it looks like high pressure could start to move in and that should settle
02:59
the weather down at least for a while. For more on that make sure you hit
