00:00Poor, dramatic late 2-1 win against Ashford to go top of the league, was that just one

00:06of those days where you sort of had to get it done and get the three points there?

00:10Yeah, in the end it was. We were poor today, you know, the game was of a poor standard

00:16all round, but we had just so many misplaced passes and just rushed everything. It wasn't

00:22us, but maybe credit to Ashford in the way that they played and set up and made it that

00:26way.

00:27So you say maybe it was there, it was frustrating, they tried to frustrate didn't they?

00:32Yeah, a little bit. I think we got off to the perfect start with an early goal and maybe

00:37wasted a couple of opportunities to maybe kill the game early doors. They grew into

00:42it and every ball they played was out wide and looking for a photo, launching it in the

00:49box and corners, and they were good at it. It was a different test for us today.

00:55As you say, you were quick out of blocks, only four minutes in when Owen Dean gets the

00:59goal. That was a perfect start there really, wasn't it?

01:01It was, yeah. He bundled his way through and it was 1-11. On the sideline it looked like

01:07we could have a field day from how high they were, but yeah, we just couldn't string two

01:12passes together today, which is a bit strange because it's a whole team. It wasn't just

01:17one or two individuals, it was all round the pitch.

01:21As you say, no early minutes though. There were a few chances to get that second and

01:26obviously it could have been a much more comfortable afternoon if that had happened.

01:30I think so. We scored a couple of early goals. It's a real comfortable afternoon, but it

01:35wasn't that way. As we were in the game right to the end, so yeah, credit to them. But the

01:43quality shone through in the end and I think when we look back at it, the bits of quality

01:49in the game were from us and a bit of quality did win the game. So yeah, we're happy.

01:54The equaliser was a bit of a cross shot I think really, wasn't it?

01:58It was a bit of a cross shot, yeah. It was just poor decision. I think from the kick,

02:03Landers has come to try and win one bit. He's taken a misjudged and he got in the channel

02:09and we backed off and yeah, he's binked one in and it's looped in the back post.

02:13Half-time at 1-1. We just wanted to raise it, improve the passing. Is that the message?

02:19Yeah, it's hard because we weren't happy. We weren't happy with it, but we've got to

02:25try and manage the situation and where we're coming from and we've got to understand that

02:31stepping up the levels and we've had it all our own way and we didn't get it our own way.

02:36The attitude was a couple shone away from it a little bit because it wasn't what they

02:43used to. But they regrouped and credit and then two or three times in the half we did

02:48show a bit of quality. We looked like ourselves, but it wasn't for long enough periods.

02:53So I guess over a long season, it's not going to be champagne football every game and you

02:58do keep going away and a bit of quality from Cookie with five minutes to go wins the game.

03:03Yeah, that was the quality that won us the game. But come May or end of April, whenever

03:10it is, we may look back at this game and it could be a massive game.

03:14Obviously the infacted wins are great, but those wins where you've got to dig them out

03:18and show that quality, they can be the ones that really add up come the end of the season.

03:22Yeah, and we're going to need around ten of them this year to get the first one straight

03:27away, so it's a positive sign.

03:29And obviously that takes the top of the league as well, so a good marker and obviously a

03:33good one to take advantage of today with obviously not a full programme. Get yourselves top.

03:38Yeah, we're top now. We've got to treat it that we're top and no one's taken it off us.

03:46We've got to be hungry for that. We're going to choose deep, regroup and be confident and

03:51go out and play our football again.

03:52And obviously you've got that experience of last season from front running early on and

03:56being top and staying tough. I guess you've got to tap into all of that again really,

04:00haven't you?

04:01Yeah, we've got to enjoy it. That's why we do it. We want to be at the top, we want the

04:04pressure and that's what makes the game so good. The crowd again today played its part.

04:11I'm actually a little bit shell-shocked in our performance, but we've come through it.

04:17Yeah, at 1-1 they really stuck with it, didn't they, and kept pushing the team on the fans.

04:21Yeah, they stuck to it and you never know. The amount of throw-ins and corners they kept

04:26launching into the box. Eventually you think one might fall for them, but we defended it

04:31really well.

04:34Five out of five now, just another one ticked off on the way really, isn't it?

04:38Yeah, just another one ticked off at home. We've got another two coming up next week

04:43at home. At home we look to take maximum points and hopefully another positive win.

04:48And 53 now in the league across the past couple of seasons now. Great stat that really, isn't

04:55it?

04:56Yeah, it's an amazing stat. Again, we don't talk about it, we say it on social media and

05:03I think when you're at home and stuff it's time to look at it and be proud. But it's

05:09just a stat and it's won us a trophy and we've got more.

05:13No Daz today, any sort of update on his injury?

05:17Yeah, he's done a hip flexor. So yeah, we won't be looking at him for a couple of weeks

05:22until we see him back out on the pitch. But yeah, that's where he's at.

05:26Yeah, so not too bad then, not too long. Should be back fairly soon.

05:32Yeah, you know the way these games are coming thick and fast, I'm sure he'll be back on

05:35the pitch soon.

05:36I say another busy week of thick and fast home games, another two starting on Tuesday

05:40with Binfield.

05:41Yeah, that'll be another interesting game. The physicality side tonight, you know,

05:47as for today. So we know what to expect and we've got to be better than we did.
