Paul Smith has raised more than 2 million for charity over the last 5 decades and is
00:07
currently on his last challenge of hand cycling from Mount Snowdon to Portsmouth.
00:14
In 1991 I had a road traffic accident, someone was overtaking on a blind bend at night, hit
00:21
me head on and I have a brain injury, I have spinal issues, shoulder, chest and numerous
00:32
physical injuries.
00:34
I've been fundraising for 48 years now and I always believe that there are people in
00:43
the world that are worse off than myself and I feel that we should be helping them
00:53
and helping brain tumour research in particular.
00:57
I am taking on the challenge in memory of my grandmother, a good friend of mine Jenny
01:04
Weller and another friend of mine Teresa.
01:09
I'm out 100 miles a day most days, back to back, working hard up hills, everything, in
01:17
all weathers, rain, we've had the heat, 29 degrees set off at 5 in the morning, not got
01:28
back home until about 4 in the afternoon and it's just keep pushing myself knowing that
01:37
the hills that we are going to face at the end of the month are going to be a challenge
01:44
on their own.
01:58
So Paul, how was the journey?
02:00
Tough basically, some real big mountains to climb and hot temperatures, yesterday 32 degrees,
02:11
it was a really tough day yesterday, we had the brake cable snapped as well and that happened
02:20
earlier as well on Tuesday, so twice the brake cable snapped, it was as I expected, these
02:29
are challenges, that's what they are and with the help of my crew we've succeeded,
02:36
it pushed me to my limits, I know that.
02:38
I'm proud of the guys and that because you can set these challenges but you can't always
02:45
achieve them alone because there's people in this world that are worse off than me and
02:54
I believe if you can help somebody, do it.
