I'm Paul Smith, in 91 I had a road traffic accident, someone was overtaking on a blind
00:25
bend at night, hit me head on, I have a brain injury, I have spinal issues, shoulder, chest
00:37
and numerous physical injuries. I've been fundraising for 48 years now and I always
00:47
believe that there are people in the world that are worse off than myself and I feel
00:56
that we should be helping them and helping brain tumour research in particular to find
01:06
a cure for brain tumours. I am taking on the challenge to hand bike from Snowdon to Portsmouth
01:20
at the end of the month to raise funds for brain tumour research. In memory of my grandmother,
01:31
a good friend of mine Jenny Weller and another friend of mine Theresa. I've done gym work,
01:38
strength and conditioning and tackled the hills around Portsmouth but there's no comparison
01:50
compared to the ones in Wales but we can only do what we can do at this moment in time really.
02:01
I'm out 100 miles a day most days, back to back, working hard up hills, in all weathers, rain,
02:13
we've had the heat, 29 degrees set off at five in the morning, not got back home till about
02:23
four in the afternoon and it's just keep pushing myself knowing that the hills that we are going
02:33
to face at the end of the month are going to be a challenge on their own. I want to thank
02:40
all my sponsors Evans House, Shaw Up and Running, Global Leather, Alexander Sports, Southgate and
02:47
Finchley Coaches, BH Live and GC Bike Repairs, Elite Electrolytes and Strike Type who produced
03:00
all our posters and our logo, Formanauts and LV Rehabilitation and Applied Driving all been
03:15
and let's not forget Broadway Coffee Roasters, they've been absolutely amazing throughout this
03:24
journey and without you guys we couldn't carry out the challenge.
03:33
This will be my final challenge, it'll be emotional because of my grandmother,
03:44
I only found out she died of a brain tumour two months before I did the climb up Mount Snowdon
03:52
and Jenny, I will continue to support charities and continue with my fundraising
04:01
but it won't be on a physical scale to compare to what I've done, I think it's time to
04:10
listen to my body, I've never been very good at that, I've always got on with it
04:18
but I think now I just take things a little bit easier but I will continue to do some challenges
04:28
at some kind of charity work, I don't know what it'll be, I haven't really thought about it,
04:36
we have to take one step at a time, one day at a time, let's get this challenge out the way and
04:42
see how I feel afterwards, I'm sure that something will come up.
