Transcript
00:00Hi, my name's Kate May. Kate, so tell us a little bit about where we are and what we're celebrating.
00:05So we are seven years in at the Mr Coffee Lounge in Cosham High Street and we're celebrating with
00:12offering support around the mental health and we've set up a GoFundMe page for that.
00:18Brilliant, so tell me how the last seven years have been and what the reaction's like from
00:22like, you know, passing trade. So it's been changeable, I would say, in the last seven
00:28years, we have gone through some changes, but each change has brought something better
00:32along with it. The passing trade is great, we get a lot of regulars now, we get a lot of
00:38people wanting to come in to just chill out if they just want a quiet, relax and sort of
00:43a reset. We've got Wi-Fi, so people come in and use the Wi-Fi to be able to do their business
00:48things, we have meetings in. So we get a mixture of different people, lots of people meet their
00:52friends in here for coffee and cake and obviously we've got the crystals, so we also sell a lot
00:57on tarot cards, crystals and all the new age stock as well.
01:01Tell me how it's sort of helped people who, you know, has been struggling with their mental
01:08health.
01:09So a lot of people come in and offload to us because it's a small coffee shop, we get to
01:15know our customers and they offload with whatever's going on in their lives and a lot of it's quite
01:20traumatic and we've had customers saying this has been their safe space, this has really helped
01:24them. We have had customers come in off the street crying because they've just had some
01:29trauma or some bad news and they just feel drawn to come in. They're not sure why they've
01:33come in, they just feel drawn. So we sit them down, we give them a cup of tea and we have
01:37a little chat with them and then they go away lifted.
01:40Fabulous. I bet that feels really rewarding to kind of be there for somebody that is really
01:45struggling.
01:46Absolutely. It wasn't the aim of the game when we first started, but it's certainly part of
01:51what we do now and it's great to do that.
