00:00
He's a mellow yellow feline, so take a second look.
00:05
He knows everything about nothing, and not too much about that.
00:10
So if you know someone who knows what he knows, then you must know Henry's cat.
00:16
Henry's cat was watching advertisements on television.
00:19
The first one he saw was for TastyPaste.
00:22
Eat your rubbish, there's no waste, just sprinkle it with TastyPaste.
00:28
Oh, what a brilliant idea, thought Henry's cat.
00:32
I wonder why no one had thought of it before.
00:35
The next advertisement was for a washing powder.
00:38
This is new wishy-washy, with added hyper-activated decalcified paratrioxy bicarbonate of soda,
00:46
as used by spacemen, film stars, dog trainers and lavatory attendants.
00:52
We will now test it along with Brand X on two identical and otherwise similar shirts,
00:57
covered in certified dirt, grease and grime.
01:02
Here is Brand X's shirt. It is even dirtier, torn, ripped and inside out.
01:07
But with wishy-washy, the shirt is super clean.
01:11
Buttons replaced, ironed and packed ready to wear,
01:14
with added underarm deodorant supplied absolutely free.
01:20
And that's not all, folks. Collect the labels from three packets and you get...
01:24
a signed photograph of Shakespeare, a matched pair of reversible plasticine earrings,
01:29
a left-handed screwdriver, a wind-up reciprocating toy rabbit,
01:34
with accompanying wind-up carrot, two tickets to Alaska in the off-season,
01:39
a rubber corkscrew and a large pack of second-hand tea bags.
01:44
So hurry, hurry, while stocks last.
01:47
Wishy-washy troubles with magic wishy-washy bubbles.
01:53
It only takes you half the time to banish dirt and grease and grime.
01:59
Henry's cat thought that was a very good advertisement, especially the song that went with it.
02:04
Well, at that moment, Chris Rabbit arrived.
02:06
Henry's cat asked Chris how they did the songs for the advertisements.
02:10
Oh, it's easy, it's easy. You have to think up words that rhyme.
02:16
For example, if I was writing a song for soap,
02:19
our soap is very soapy and if you don't buy it, then you're dopey.
02:25
Oh, I'm sure that would sell lots of soap.
02:28
You should take it up and make a lot of money, said Henry's cat.
02:32
I think I will, I think I will. You can be my manager, said Chris.
02:37
It seemed a very exciting idea.
02:39
Henry's cat then went home and wrote down all the names of the television companies
02:43
and sent them all letters which said,
02:45
Oh, dear sir or madam, my client, Chris Rabbit, is very good at jingles.
02:50
Please send us lots of jobs. Yours very jingly, Henry's cat.
02:55
Well, the very next day, Henry's cat got a reply saying,
02:59
Dear Henry's cat, we sell pen knives for Boy Scouts.
03:04
Could you do a nice jingle for us? Yours in anticipation, Cyril Chipper.
03:13
They immediately got on their bike and went off and met Mr. Chipper himself.
03:17
Oh, hello, I'm Henry's cat and this is Chris Rabbit, jingle writer extraordinaire.
03:23
Hey, I'm glad to meet you, I'm sure.
03:26
We've been having a very bad time with our pen knives, we have.
03:30
Do you think you could sell them for us?
03:32
Oh yeah, oh yeah, leave it to me, just leave it to me.
03:35
Well, Mr. Chipper was convinced.
03:37
He gave them a bag of chocolate buttons on account and booked a TV studio for them.
03:43
A few days later, Henry's cat and Chris Rabbit sat down to watch their television advert.
03:49
They laughed when I sat down to play.
03:53
But their laughter soon turned to amazement.
03:57
Well, I smashed up their piano with this chopper.
04:01
It was all with the help of this, which is not only a proper chopper,
04:04
but a supersonic Boy Scouts pen knife.
04:08
You just hold it and unfold it, it's a hammer and a spanner you can use.
04:12
In any manner, it's a knife and a fork and a thing for pulling corks
04:16
and it cuts and it sucks and it even opens doors.
04:21
It's for scraping and for filing and for doing bathroom tiling
04:24
and it opens ten tomatoes.
04:27
The pointed thing, of course, is most useful for a horse.
04:30
If you want to get a knife that will last you all your life,
04:35
then the Chipper is a ripper and it's better than a wife.
04:39
Well, Henry's cat and Chris Rabbit thought that was very good.
04:43
And so did Mr. Chipper,
04:45
who turned up the next day with two large bags of jelly beans as a bonus.
04:59
Mr. Chipper then showed them photos of people from all over the world
05:03
who had bought his pen knives.
05:05
Yes, even a Boy Scout had bought one.
05:08
Henry's cat and Chris Rabbit were absolutely thrilled.
05:11
Lots of letters with jobs came in.
05:13
They spent all morning reading them.
05:15
Oh, here's a good one, said Henry's cat.
05:18
It's to advertise reversible socks.
05:21
They are useful for dog hats and hockey stick protectors
05:26
and are very good at saxophone quietness
05:30
and can also be used for disguising submarine periscopes in enemy territory.
05:36
Oh, listen to this, listen to this.
05:39
Dear sir, I am a schoolmaster.
05:42
I want a jingle to advertise what a nice place school is.
05:46
Please come immediately, if not sooner.
05:49
Professor Bagworthy.
05:51
They met Professor Bagworthy, who said...
05:54
Oh, yes, it's a very bad situation.
05:57
Children don't want to come to school in the first place.
06:00
And when they do come, they don't want to learn anything.
06:04
I just don't know what to do about it.
06:06
Oh, oh, don't worry, leave it to him.
06:09
Yeah, don't worry, leave it to me, leave it to me, said Chris Rabbit.
06:13
I'll fix it up in no time.
06:15
Then Henry's cat and Chris Rabbit hurried home to work something out.
06:18
They thought and thought about it.
06:20
I've got an idea.
06:22
Why don't we just say school is nice?
06:27
School is lovely, a lovely place to be.
06:30
It's just right for boys and girls, especially you and me.
06:34
We all like to go there and learn to read and write.
06:37
We never play truant or want to start a fight.
06:41
We love to do our homework, we never get enough.
06:44
Especially mathematics, it really is what's up.
06:48
History and computers is better than cream cake.
06:51
And physics is so lovely, it keeps me wide awake.
06:56
School, school, school is really, really nice.
07:00
Seven days a week, what makes it paradise?
07:03
No, there's nothing like it for making all the fuss.
07:06
But if you go to school, you will be a genius.
07:14
Philosophy is perfect for learning how to think.
07:17
And chemistry is marvellous for making things extinct.
07:21
And when you're at school, you'll be a genius.
07:24
And when you're finished learning how to make a pong,
07:28
you can take the morning off till more lessons come along.
07:31
School is heaven, a nice place to learn.
07:35
Everyone should go there and do it all at once.
07:38
Never will be clever or be a great success
07:42
unless you go to school and do your very best.
07:48
School, school, school is very, very nice.
07:53
Seven days a week, what makes it paradise?
07:56
No, there's nothing like it to make it all the fuss.
07:59
But if you go to school, you will be a genius.
08:03
If you go to school, you'll be...
08:07
A genius!
08:16
Well, they were such a success that children everywhere just couldn't get to school fast enough.
08:21
Professor Bagworthy was so pleased that he gave them special diplomas.
08:25
For your services to education, I am proud to present you with these diplomas.
08:31
You are both now Honorary Doctors of Jingles.
08:34
It was a very great honour indeed.
08:37
Henry's Cat and Chris Rabbit thought that perhaps they should retire early.
08:41
But just at that moment, Constable Bulldog came along and said...
08:46
Hello, hello, hello. Are you, dear Force Head, in here after Henry's Cat and Chris Rabbit?
08:52
Oh, yes, Constable. Have we been doing something wrong?
08:56
No, no, no. In fact, I have a letter here from the Prime Minister herself, saying...
09:03
Dear Police Force, if you can't stop crime, please get Henry's Cat and Chris Rabbit to help out.
09:11
Yours lawfully, the Prime Minister.
09:15
What a surprise. This was a very big job.
09:18
They had to think up a really good idea on this one.
09:22
Oh, I think I've got a really good idea.
09:26
Oh, what is it? What is it?
09:28
Why don't we have a national no-crime day, so all the criminals can have a holiday?
09:35
Oh, that's very good! That's very good!
09:40
Hello, hello, hello.
09:44
Now I'm a bobby on the beat.
09:48
You can tell by my pointed head and the size of my flat feet as I walk around the street.
09:54
Now I'm a naughty rabbit.
09:58
If I see something, I sack rabbit.
10:02
No, it's not because I want it or it's got my name upon it.
10:06
No, it's just a naughty habit.
10:10
Oh, hello there. What's all this here, here, in that bag, there?
10:15
Oh, just a few things I've knocked off, like a TV set, a fishing net, a lovely chiming clock.
10:21
A string of possum walnut whorls and a Scotsman's whirly sock.
10:24
A set of tools, some plastic tools and a worn-out pair of jeans.
10:28
A new guitar, some bits of car and one large case of beans.
10:33
My name is Bill the Burglar.
10:37
And I'm a naughty thief.
10:41
The things I steal are sounding like some things to get around in.
10:45
Oh, it's quite beyond belief.
10:48
Don't leave your doors ajar.
10:51
So I'm likely to be tempted.
10:55
You'll safe your house, your car won't be taken very far.
10:59
But you'll find that they get emptied.
11:02
A fountain pen, a speckled hand, some vouchers for a luncheon.
11:05
And here's the best swag in my bag, I wish you all the treasure.
11:11
Your work is your vocation, but I really think it's time you took a nice vacation,
11:16
away from all this crime.
11:18
I've got the very place for you to go on holiday,
11:21
with food and board and lots to do to show that crime don't pay.
11:25
So everyone who's naughty or wants to misbehave,
11:29
remember you'll get caught just like every other name.
11:32
So mend your ways right now and just take my advice,
11:36
cause everyone will love you if you stay very nice.
11:43
Well, it was a very good advertisement for No Crime Day.
11:46
In fact, it was too good.
11:48
On the news that night, they announced that no crimes had been committed at all anywhere.
11:53
The chief of police came on television and said that he'd given all his policemen the day off.
11:58
But there was soon another problem.
12:00
Judges, jailers and people who sold locks and burglar alarms,
12:03
people who sold insurances and security things,
12:06
and people who checked identity cards and that sort of thing.
12:09
In fact, all people who earned their living from crime were now all out of work.
12:15
But the chief of police had it all worked out.
12:18
He got them jobs in amusement parks, didn't he?
12:28
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
12:41
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
12:47
Well, they like working with children much better than working with criminals.
12:52
Ah bien, ils disent toujours que le crime ne paye pas, disait la chatte de Henry.
12:58
Oh, il le fait si tu penses bien de lui, il le fait si tu penses bien de lui, disait Chris.
