Deputies Harassing Motorists - May 1, 2024

Throughout the day of May 1st, 2024, sheriff's deputies in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana followed/stalked, ran the license plates of, stopped, and searched several motorists. I'm also advised they were seen driving recklessly in the process, as well. The primary harasser made a few dubious, if not outright illegal, stops for "no license plate" (but the vehicle did in fact have a plate) and "unreadable" temporary tag. He must've been mad at everybody over him (or his son, not sure which) getting caught trespassing and illegally fishing in a private pond the evening prior. ( https://youtu.be/hookkJFZZrE )

Another deputy involved is a very recent hire and doesn't even know basic radio codes and procedures. He hasn't been through the police academy (Louisiana allows cops to work full-time for up to a year before having to be academy-trained...) and is not POST certified, and needless to say he doesn't know the laws he's tasked with enforcing or the laws and regulations that govern his behavior as a law enforcement officer. It's irresponsible on the administration's (sheriff, chief deputy, supervisors) part to put someone like that in a cruiser by themselves, but I guess they were desperate for manpower because several longtime deputies (who are involved in numerous civil rights lawsuits) appear to be suspended or demoted.

Additionally, the deputies worked a call of a PEC (physician's emergency certificate - an involuntary mental hold) patient who escaped from the hospital. That person is someone that the thugs - I mean "deputies" - have harassed for so long that it wouldn't surprise me if they were the actual cause of her mental issues. Once they caught her - and they were extremely careful to not say too much about this part - they decided to try and arrest her on a warrant instead of getting her the mental help she needed. Ultimately, though, they took her back to the hospital instead of to the jail. These thugs have a history of treating people with mental issues like criminals instead of people who need help - and some of them have a history of people having actual medical issues like criminals.
