Deputy Harassing Motorists - November 20, 2023

Throughout the day on November 20th, 2023, a Caldwell Parish, Louisiana sheriff's deputy followed/stalked, ran the license plates of, ran warrant checks on, and stopped several motorists.

With one of these stops, he couldn't be bothered to simply change lanes so as to see around the pickup's trailer ball, instead he used the classic "misread one digit" tactic to give him a reason to make the stop.

This predatory behavior is extremely common for this particular deputy, he does this all day every day that he's on shift. Sometimes he even comes out to work on one of his days off, and you guessed it, harasses motorists all day every day.

Also of note: the rain we received that evening prompted the police jury to lift the burn ban, which the chief deputy and a detective commented on. I'm not totally convinced this was a good idea, as the last time they lifted the ban (in October, for political reasons, without enough rain to substantially lower the risk of wildfires), there were multiple large forest fires that strained the SO's and fire department's resources, and which required help from multiple fire departments in neighboring parishes as well as multiple Agriculture and Forestry units. Maybe we got enough rain this time though.
