00:00
Well it's great to be out here this morning with my Federal Senate colleague Jonathan
00:10
Duniam to talk about cost of living and the pressures that Tasmanians are under.
00:16
We want to be here to raise awareness and attention of the pressures that northern Tasmanians
00:21
and in fact all Tasmanians are labouring under.
00:25
We've seen these terrible bulk billing numbers coming out here in Tasmania in recent weeks.
00:31
We know that Tasmanians are increasingly under pressure when they're trying to get access
00:35
to a doctor and to be able to afford access to a doctor.
00:39
Coming into the new year people are looking for places for childcare as they return to
00:44
work and we're seeing incredible pressures right across the region in terms of access
00:48
to childcare.
00:50
Federal labourers talked a big game.
00:51
They went to the election saying that no one would be left behind, that things would be
00:56
better under their government and it's 18 months on and we're waiting to see when it's
01:00
going to be better.
01:02
And we're calling on Federal labour to do more to support Tasmanians with the cost of
01:06
living, to support Tasmanians with housing, with access to affordable electricity, affordable
01:13
healthcare, affordable childcare.
01:15
All of those things that they promised that are so far remaining under-lived.
01:19
Well 2024 is a year of not only honouring promises as Labor said they would, be it on
01:25
cost of living and provision of essential services, but it's the year that Federal labour
01:30
need to step up.
01:31
There's a lot at stake and a lot hanging in the balance this year.
01:35
In addition to the pressures every single Tasmanian household is facing, there's great
01:40
uncertainty around many jobs in this state.
01:44
Federal labourers stood idly by.
01:45
The green groups take to task proud and sustainable industries like the salmon industry.
01:51
While green groups go and interfere with our proud and sustainable forestry industry.
01:57
Federal labour MPs and Senators have stood by while their government have cut for future
02:02
infrastructure projects 60% of Federal funding from these projects that we need to keep growing
02:08
our economy.
02:10
They've done nothing about reducing the cost of childcare.
02:13
They've done nothing to assist Tasmanians struggling with the cost of power beyond these
02:18
simple handouts.
02:20
They've done nothing to reduce the cost of accessing primary healthcare in this state.
