Stranded vehicles scattered across Midwest during winter storms

AccuWeather's Tony Laubach reported many stranded motorists including truck drivers throughout the Midwest as of Jan. 9, in the midst of the two major winter storms that buried the region with snow.

00:26 Be patient crews are working feverishly Eastern Colorado through Kansas up into Nebraska to try to get these roads cleared

00:32 Not just of the snow but of the abandoned vehicles

00:35 So still a lot of closures I 70 portions of I 80 a lot of these secondary highways

00:40 They're working on it have some patience here. But even the ones that are open are certainly no picnic

00:46 I'm going to show you just what I saw on my drive just between Lincoln and Omaha typically a 45-minute trip

00:52 It is well over an hour. It's been taking me and it's been scenes like this. This is all fresh stuff

00:57 This is not stuff from yesterday's snow despite most of the snow having cleared on out of here. We're dealing with the winds

01:03 We're dealing with the low visibility at times and the roads are still icy

01:07 And when you combine all that together, you're getting jackknife semis folks getting pushed off these roads

01:12 It is still very very hazardous trying to travel in these areas. This extends all the way into Iowa as well

01:18 So a large area despite the storm having moved on out. We still got some light snow flurries coming down, but it's the wind

01:25 It's the blowing snow Accuweather real feels where I'm standing right now hovering right around zero

01:30 So Justin it is not pleasant out here by any stretch regardless of whether the roads are open. Maybe best
